Is this the real reason why music is so bad nowadays?

there used to be so much variety in music, now its been wittled down to pop rap and just pop rap
If you lived in the before times you would know how today sucks

important to remember that music and video games are pulling talent from two very different types of people

music pulls in happy, confident, sexual people and video games pull in people who are less comfortable. just completely different personalities. it's like asking "is NASA reducing the talent pool of the NHL?" hard to even compare at all

This, and when I was growing up, sites like newgrounds were the underground origin for a lot of creative, boundary exploring content.

I'd argue sites like 4chan, SA, or YTMND were pretty 'punk rock' cultural touchstones for the early modern internet culture. Shit like tiktok and Instagram memes are now a modern day mainstream manifestation of that early 2000's internet zaniness, but way more cringe and narcissistic

>The parallel issue of sexism, implicit in the roots of rock and roll, is even knottier; but here, too, the evidence is mixed. In New York, the two most prestigious bands, Television and Talking Heads, avoid both macho and wimp and are notably unantagonistic toward women. Ironic strategies abound, especially from the Ramones and Blondie, who puts on her bombshell image so convincingly that she's turned into a rockmag pinup (how do you jerk off ironically?), and whose theme song rips "Miss Groupie Supreme" to shreds. In England, the Sex Pistols and the Clash direct their underclass rage, so often deflected toward women in rock and roll, right where it belongs, at the rich and powerful, and social-problem cliches are invoked much more often than women-problem cliches. But irony is double-edged, and the mechanical, pleasureless, hostile sexuality projected by names like Vibrators, Sex Pistols, and (get this one) Buzzcocks is, once again, more than liberal-baiting. The avant-punk scene is certainly no better place for women than any other rock scene and in crucial instances it's worse.

What's the best? My unchanging two favorite Smiths songs are Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now and Ask, but Shoplifters would probably be in the top 10. For me it's mentally paired with Sheila Take a Bow because they're both 1987 singles that are sequenced consecutively on Louder than Bombs. Both absolutely rip

good song
i like how little a lot of johnny's playing actually resembles a smiths song, i know johnny is more inspired by hard rockers than other jangle or indie musicians, it shows here.
the other thing that really stuck out was the intro, i find it funny how sudden it starts
>>
>>103481724
Also I remember reading that Shoplifters Unite is Morrissey's favorite Smiths song. At any rate it was one of the only Smiths songs he played when I saw him live in 2007

I saw the term “abstract hip hop” on rym. not sure how much i agree with that term but it’s a decent placeholder. >>103480919 ‘s dad is kinda on track, though it’s a bit wordy.

>>103480800
got it the other way around for me, I don’t think I resonate much with Enjoy’s work. not for any particular reason.
