This thread can be ignored by the serious hi-fi guys, but for normies like myself thinking they’re getting a better deal throwing on the “Lossless” setting in Apple Music, don’t bother. AirPods and most consumer grade (not prosumer) Bluetooth headphones and earphones cannot deliver hi-res audio (https://darko.audio/2020/11/no-bluetooth-cannot-deliver-hi-res-audio/) and anything that hasn’t hit Billboard Hot 100 (which most of /mu/ refuses to listen to) is going to be 16-bit/44.1kHz, aka CD quality (pic related). Some songs are 24bit (48kHz or 192kHz), but there’s more than one website dedicated to proving in 90% of cases, 320kbps MP3 is indistinguishable from FLAC. The only time this would ever be different would be with an audio setup consisting of headphones more than say $400 for accurate representation and something to drive them, or a set of studio monitors, which most of /mu/ probably doesn’t even know how to plug in (myself previously included until recently).TL;DR Apple Music AAC codecs are amazing compared to Shartify, but you’re a pseud if you think turning on Lossless does anything else other than slurp down more bandwidth and take up more space.

>>119489828Literally every other indie album is released as 24 bit, let alone mainstream pop and rock. What the fuck are you talking about

How old is too old to start/join a band with any hopes of success?
>>119490563It's the very rare exception, not the rule
>>119490284Cope
>>119490689Well the only bands that still sell are boomers that weren't even attractive when they were young
>>119490678Making it at all is the exception. It's so rare it's not worth worrying over average age of making it. Most people that make it an older age had other responsibilities or circumstances when they were young. Prison is a common one, lots of people got big after getting out of prison at an older age.
>>119488786you are atalking about two people who were already famous i.e. mad lads known around the scene because they loved to party and listen to music. they were in the scene for the fun, playing music like many other youngsters than for a series of circumstances they became extremely famous, but both courtney love and gallagher were "characters" in teh respective scenes. same for the Go-Gos or many other bands/artists in the 70s/80s. and all of this was possible becuase punk happened, and everybody could be a music stars without being a trained musician
RYMcore — in this context, the top three pages — exists because it’s good. Change my mind
>>119487789this image unnerves me
the problem with RYM is it only gets you so far. once you become knowledge on music and exist on the bleeding edge, you quickly realize its limitations. RYM will not like something until it's well past the status quo or is immediately popular with the zeitgeist. As time goes by and the zeitgeist and what's the status quo become less and less about what is actually good, RYM's take on modern music enters into a void. In other words, for modern music coming out right now, you are on your own. RYM can only hinder you.

>>119487534Grimes is bjork on ketamine
>>119489059Grimes is like if Björk had an abortion but the fetus somehow survived and crawled out of the garbage can.Her early albums work more as promising ideas than actual music. Visions, just like Debut, had a lot of good things going for it while being somewhat unrefined. Art Angels tries to be bigger and better, succeeding most of the time. After that she just seemingly gave up. Miss Anthropocene was a musical regression on every level. No Homogenic. No Vespertine. No lasting legacy. Just a mediocre musician getting way over her head and making all the wrong decisions.Maybe for the better. I shudder at the thought of a Elon-themed Vespertine.Björk is a much better singer, her albums are better produced and have a more concise vision. Here artistry overall is just so much more compelling. Grimes couldn't touch that even if she tried.

>>119486136True dungeon aims to, with simple musical means, create an atmosphere that, in its primitive simplicity, conveys equally simple and rudimentary emotions. Natural and true. In the depths of human beings. The same applies to true black metal.Real dungeon, as black metal, touches on the essence of human experience and expression. simplicity in music can tap into fundamental and primal emotions that reside within us. By embracing raw, unrefined musical forms, such as true dungeon or black metal, one might access deeper layers of human emotion, transcending societal constructs and reaching a more authentic understanding of oneself and others.
>>119489024>>119489144thanks
Well-composed rock and metal, classical music, and whatever it may be are, from the same perspective, like mental masturbation. Certainly advanced and musically sophisticated, but also superficial, without necessarily reaching the profound depths of human emotion and understanding.

What's the appeal?
>>119489923probably I should have said "at best" at the end, because of course, the average noise fan doesn't have the reasoning of thinking on an actual argument, so they would use buzzwords and meme arrows to have the high ground
It depends on the noise. I don't like Merzbow from what I've heard. Here are two that I enjoy/f - Laugh Crouhttps://youtu.be/OU9sbOEEQeE?si=Hbd815B--IZS_nDtEmptyset - Demiurgehttps://youtu.be/vUuqZRsSB9w?si=jQIZ26IqQRTGGIsX
years of being raised on the internet has left all of my synapses fried and the only way I can enjoy music now is if it's loud industrial/noise/breakcore/hyperpop.t. Genz who can only watch 4 hour long iceberg videos or 5 second youtube shorts and tiktoks
>>119489756Rather than wondering when the tune's going to start, think of it more along the lines of that new age meditative ambient music, except not nice and not music.
