How much longer do we have left until it goes to shit?

I always get the sense it's run by lazy stoners or something. Biggest change i remember is when they doubled the minimum resolution for album covers.

I am surprised nobody's beaten bandcamp, yet. All a competitor would have to do is remake bandcamp, except add community features similar to oldschool last.fm. Imagine if every artist could have their own miniature wiki with promo/concert pictures, a list of related artists, and a basic comments section/shoutbox for people to be dipshits in. Imagine if your music could go viral because some random person discovered you through another artist's radio station. mite b cool.

Listen, your music is objectively poorly made. There's ambient/drone that's done with care and attention to detail but your shit is boring, the tracks have nothing happening, there's no development and you're not improving. The textures suck because they barely exist, most of your songs are one single synth part on a loop. That shit sucks and it's not how good ambient is made. You're in Saudi Arabia bro, make some Arabic sounding music or buy an instrument and actually learn to play because right now you are not even a musician. You have no supporters on any of your releases because there's no one who would pay a single dollar to have files of your music. This is straight up air pollution and a waste of bandwidth. Do better and if you can't then stop.

Worst possible idea for Bandcamp that I've ever seen.
>>

Are you old enough to remember last.fm? Because all hipsters used it religiously. All hipsters. It used to be that indie bands could upload their own music to the site, manage their own wikis, and communicate with their own fans. A lot of acts got discovered via last.fm's artist radio function, who otherwise would not have. I'm surprised last.fm didn't try to go into music distribution and remained an analytics website, quite honestly.
>>
>>121567010
>add community features
That Bandcamp isn't littered with ads and faggots blasting their shit opinions is the best thing about it.
>>
>>121566459
They should really fix user collections by adding options to sort albums by alphabetical order or by creating your own playlists. It's a minor thing but I don't know why someone hasn't done it yet.
>>
>>121571174
I remember it, and everything you just said here, Bandcamp has already been doing. Artists upload their music, write any bio or info they want, send messages to all those who follow their account, and Bandcamp has several radio functions. It doesn't need any of the other shit you said in the first post that would ruin it, though.
>>
>>121572258
You can make playlists on the app and also sort alphabetically. You can do that yourself on PC, aren't you downloading your collection?
>>
>>121577323
I do download my collection, I just find it odd that a feature like that is only on the app and not on the website UI.

fucks sake, bandcamp finally added the ability to search for artists by city, and FINALLY added the ability to combine tags. i really wish bandcamp had artist pages for everyone in a band like discogs so you can follow all the of your favorite guitar players if they have multiple projects or ever played guitar in another album. would fucking rock.

It sounds like you want OG MySpace
>>
>>121566863
This is pleasant at best. Other anon's being very extreme, probably RPing as his dad. Still, ambient drone is just ambient drone. The very premise kinds of dooms it to never stand out

>have their own miniature wiki
You can type a 500 word bio. Artists always make shitty bios for themselves anyway.
>promo/concert pictures
You're technically allowed 3 images; Profile picture, Header image, Background image. Also you can send imgs to fans via community message. I still think Bandcamp could benefit to allow you to put more in profile picture. Click on the one pfp & theres arrows which lets you toggle thru more. The ability to upload concert photos tells new fans the artist is a big deal. Only having the virtual stack of fan-pfps under the album covers to say "this artist is a big deal" just doesnt hit all the way.
>List of related artists
Bandcamp has been trying to do this recently but it's shit so they hide it at the very bottom. The only data they have is what people buy. No scrobbles, they don't even count free downloads. So they have like 1% the data lastfm does. Plus half the recs are shit that bandcamp "featured" at some point which makes it look like a shillfest. Worst part id it's based on albums not artists. And why would they work any harder on this when artists are gonma shill all over ig and fb?
>basic comments section/shoutbox
Functionally, this also already exists. If an artist makes a community post, fans can comment on it. This is arguably better than last.fm's because there's a more direct context, and artist has the power to delete gossip or shilling. Also, fans can leave reviews on album but only if they paid. It would be much better if anyone could post a review, without ever downloading.

Bandcamp's limitations may seem absurd. They could easily do more to make the site more like a party for litterallywho artists and fan accounts. But it's likely they fear all the Big Names that could potentially be on Bandcamp will think it looks unprofessional like just a silly social media site. Which is a retarded fear because it will never not look like that to the likes of Taylor Swift or Kanye West.

Also, I'll add what SoundCloud has over Bandcamp is that it was once a site that had it's own thing going on. There were artists that were "SoundCloud famous" simply because the way SoundCloud was set up made it like a party. Last.fm had a much more subtle version of that. But Bandcamp has always been secondary. Like you discover on SoundCloud/Last.fm/YouTube/Spotify. I think that's a big aspect of why they seem so lazy and the site is so bare. Back then that was much more viable. Should they even go for the same thing YouTube/SoundCloud has tho? It may just result in bot infestations and influx of faggots abusing / metagaming the site.

What i'm most sure of is as Souncloud / Last.fm / /mu/ start to become wastelands, Bandcamp has an opportunity to make their site more accessible to fans who won't be paying any money. Even the bare minimum like launching a forums/msgboard or something. There are ways of stimulating people to engage more, creating an environment that makes it seem easy to or even more difficult not to, creating a place where people who otherwise would have no interest in buying independent music suddenly want to get it on the party

What's the point of this when a Bandcamp artist page on it's own is shit context for the artist? If they're going to do this, they should also have an official genre wiki for artists to select genres from. And also, a fuckton of optional little prompts.
>A way to catalog all their equipment, instruments, gear, software and which songs use which.
>Who are your influences?
>What themes does your work center on?
>Describe your mood/aesthetic
>Song tempo/timesignature
>Favorite foods, favorite movies, etc
Just because when the artist takes initiative to write stuff like that on their own it can come off as gratuitous to someone who isn't a fan. Bandcamp acting at "the entity that asked" helps artist's image. Then again this seems so elementary maybe there's a reason they don't do this.
>>
>>121580686
yea having them choose from an official list of genres would be greay because the artist defined tags can be really retarded and hard to search for
>>
>>121574776
you sound incredibly gay.

>>121582392
When I enter mine i never know if i should use the suggest the one with the slash or the hyphen. And I also see misspellings and made up genres no one would ever search pop up. I myself make up genres as a joke sometimes so I guess I'm part of the problem but still. It would help artists too.
