Ford should make a luxury Mustang to compete with Cadillac, Audi, BMW, Lexus, etc...
Call it the Lincoln Cougar or something
>>
>>27629672

>make a luxury Mustang

So you're saying they should bring back the Thunderbird. I agree.

>Cougar

If they do that I'd like to see them bring Mercury back and use it as an alternate styling and trim level for all their models like they used to.

I'd also love to see them make a UTE like the Ranchero again and I think the Cougar brand would fit that nicely.
>>
>>27629683
For a realistic product in today's market, Ranchero could be an EV pickup to compete with Cybertruck maybe?
>>
there was a leak of a planned thunderbird
>>

>>27629742
Thunderbird would be cool as some sort of super high-end touring car
>>
The Mustang is the best selling coupe in the history of the world as it is, I really doubt Ford is very worried about """competing""" with brands who sell fewer V8 2 doors combined than the Mustang does.
Besides a Premium is pretty nice as it is. People who buy mustangs aren't going to want to pay more for one that's heavier and slower.

I've been saying for a long time it would be cool if they took a version of the ecoboost mustang and rebodied it as a turbo coupe. It also avoids the massive stigma because it's its own car as opposed to just a poverty fleet trim/unit mover.
I doubt it would be good in 2025 or even sell well, but would be nice to see.
ironically I didn't like my tbird but I blame most of that on being a fox chassis car.

They could make it like the Maverick. Offer it with the 4 cylinder hybrid; but have it be lighter with a larger bed and it could take the place of the old light truck market the Ranger used to fill.

Then maybe offer a GT version with a big engine that you could tow with and haul ass in.
>>
>>27629798
The target isn't Mustang buyers. It's luxury sports buyers who would otherwise buy a Cadillac or an Audi or something.
>>
>>27629826
People buying Audi are 0% cross shopping a Mustang. People who buy Audi and BMW and such pay attention to the brand logo first and everything else second.
>>
>>27629672
Yeah you're right. Cadillac should make a heavy luxury e-ray too

Ford, sort your shit out, I implore you!
>>
>>27629971
The turbo mustang is awesome. V6s always had a negative connotation since the dawn of time. But turbos are cool and appeal to younger buyers who can't afford the extra 11k on a gt.
>>

I love it

Eco boost Mustang is fine, EV Mustang is sgusting.
>>

ive seen this idea of reviving the probe badge for the ecopoor versions thrown around here.
>>
>>27629683
Yeah, they should bring the classic Mustang related names and put them together.
>>
>>27629672
Whenever I cuntsider the LC500 or other lux moderate-performance coopays, I always end up cheaping out and being like eh, why not a Mustang GayTea, it's good enuff
>>
>>27629989
>V6s always had a negative connotation since the dawn of time
objectively untrue

ford v6s are the sole reason why there is a stigma
everyone else makes art
>>
>>27630332
Stang is going to depreciate, LC will depend on how much you drive it. You could recover a lot of what you paid if you're willing to tie the added money up on the first place, and the inside will be a hell of a lot nicer
>>
>>27630338
>everyone else makes art
Wrong. That lancia would have been better with a turbo 4 or a V8 and everyone knows it. It sounds like raspy ass, one of the worst sounding race cars. V6s suck, they sound like shit almost universally, only maybe one or two in the history of cars have sounded decent.
>>
>>27630422
Raspy engines are an Italian tradition, rumbly engines are an anglo/germanic thing

>>
>>27630446
>implying your only two choices are rasp and rumble
no
The best sounding italian cars are ones where they killed the rasp despite the loudness. Examples: Zondas, Murcielagos, F12s.
>>
>>27630466
Debatable. Sounds like crap unless all you can hear is the intake. Rally cars do not have to sound like crap.

All cars should be named after dangerous animals or natural disasters.
>>
>>27630144

I liked Probes; but it was a terrible name. The swoopy streamlined styling could make a comeback but I'd rather they call it a Falcon, that used to be their baby Mustang back in the 60s.

Lincoln has done three concepts of exactly that, which tells me it's something they want to do, but Ford has always shot it down in the end.
I'm curious how long the brand has. Lincoln is incredibly starved of any new products at all.
>>
>>27630835
i like probes and thats why id rather they just leave the name alone especially if it would be attached to another generic nucar probably without pop ups.
>>
i just want a V8 Mustang sedan. I'm sure it would sell gangbusters in this increasingly 1-car-does-all world
>>
>>27629857
That's just true of pretty much everyone who buys cars, honestly.

>Poor people buy American bcuz "mi nino knows how to work on them"
>Middle-class people buy Japanese because cars are appliances to them and they don't want to look showy nor do they want to have do any preventative maitenence whatsoever
>New money buys German for the status symbol aspect of it, oftentimes getting lower-trim models and debadging them
>Old money buys everything else that's rare to stuff it in a garage and flip it someday (after they're dead) because the only real hobby they have is money
>>
>>27630871
They should definitely do that second concept.
Honestly I think it's a secret race between American and Australia to create the first supercar El Camino/Ute.
>>
>>27629672
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_MK9

They made a couple concept cars 20 years back. The problem is that you're going need a longer wheelbase for a luxury mustang because you need a comfortable back seat
>>
>>27630466
it's still shit compared to any V8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0yiRilcKME

either way, sound doesn't matter. V6s will always be seen as the poorfag engine option. Even given the choice between a V6 and a turbo 4 that, by some magic of engineering, made the exact same HP/weight/mpgs/etc, the turbo would still be the more popular option because turbos are cool and appeal to young people. They like the pops and bangs and crackles and whistling. No one aspires to own a V6. At least not a NA one anyway. There are fans of cars like the GTR and GT, but 1 those cars are twin turboed and 2 they're still seen as cars that would be better with different engines, i6 and V8 respectively.
>>
>>27629756
That render looks like an Aston DB11 or DB12 had a Mustang front end grafted on it but with a thunderbird logo. It's lazy but looks decent.
>>
>>27629883
They put a Northstar V8 in it instead of an LS. The Northstar had a habit of killing its head gaskets due to under-sized head bolts.

>It's luxury sports buyers who would otherwise buy a Cadillac or an Audi or something.
Luxury Coupes as a concept have come and gone already. There's now a significant market gap in terms of what people who want sports cars want (2 door coupe that goes very fast) and what people who want luxury cars want (4-door saloon or SUV with all the bits and bobs and excellent ride quality) that the two concepts are basically impossible to marry.
>>
>>27631011
That's true of the older transverse Northstars. By the time they started putting Northstars in longitudinal cars (the XLR, STS, and 1st gen SRX with the LH2 and LC3) they had massaged them to suck a lot less, they don't really have head issues at all versus the transverse ones which had a near 100% failure rate. The real problem with the XLR now is that XLR-specific parts are becoming unobtainium. Used head lights and tail lights are over $1k each, for example.
>>
>>27634019

I think you could do it as a trim level for the Mustang. Call it a Thunderbird and just change the body work a little and give it a fancy interior.
>>
>>27629672
Chevy did it with the Berlinetta

sorry but that market is already oversaturated by the brands you just mention and the people looking for new german "luxury" coupes are not even gonna glance at an american car even if it's better in every single aspect

My hope would be that it compares to stuff like the Audi S5 and Lexus RC
That's why I suggest it be a Lincoln
I am in the market for such a car, but would never consider a Mustang
>>
>>27634818

Last time they sold a Thunderbird they just badged it as a Thunderbird. I don't think it said Ford anywhere on the body.
