Hydro Thunder is the best water racer.
Wipeout 2097 is the best hover racer
Rollcage: Stage 2 is the best wacky racer.
Daytona USA is the best cabinet racer.
Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament is the best top-down racer.
StarWars: Podracer is the best franchise racer.
MarioKart is the best multiplayer racer.

For me, it's Test Drive Unlimited (1, with hardcore physics, assists off, and auto-clutch off). There's just something about being able to walk into a dealer, option your car out with the special-order paint and factory wheel options then being able to set your GPS somewhere ~25 miles away to head out on a cruise with the windows down and radio up.
I still regularly play it through the Platinum mod, though I had cars with thousands of miles on the odometer on the original servers.
>>27616615
Same, except include NFS3 as well. I got countless extra hours out of NFS3 due to the modding scene alone. The Rom Di Prisco/Saki Kaskas soundtracks are supreme, too.

Where could it even be set? Los Angeles is the perfect setting for a street racing game. Maybe Houston, because the MC games are based around urban car culture and Houston is the home of SWANGAZ and the dirty south rap movement. If NFS hadn't done Vegas and Miami so recently I would've said there
>>
>>27617838

I'd give just about anything for a 'redux' of TDU1 that fixes the borked roads/map, has good off road physics and places to do it, and restructures the car list to focus on all the cool new vehicles available for sale circa 2006-2007.

Beamng and Wreckfest are both amazing games for what makes them respectively unique.
As much as I love GTA IV, the driving was dogshit. Almost every car handled and swayed like a 1960s land barge on ice. V is objectively better, especially with all the customization and effort R* put into that part of game, as well as the hundreds of new cars they've added with their real-life counterparts

Toca Race Driver 3

The best part of the series. Later GRIDs no longer match this part. Interesting categories of competition, very good driving model (closer to simulation and not typical arcade like in GRIDs). Here each car behaves differently and you really have to use the brake before corners.

this was my first racing game experience and what got me into cars. nothing has come close since. The jazz music and timeless, sophisticated, mature feel of this game was perfect. Nothing new can compare. It is all slop for retards, even GT7 lacks the sovl GT4 had

>never played rush, hydro thunder, cruisin world

sad. cruisin exotica also pretty good, the first game is kind of a tech demo. makes more sense when you think about it like a 3D Outrun clone
>>
>>27619549
I guess I played Cruis'n World in the arcade, but only a couple times (I usually played Ehrgeiz because Squaresoft fanboy). I had USA on N64 so played it a ton. Even then they seemed like 3D Outrun clones. It was so scripted and the hit detection is jank. But yes I could see it being their first foray into 3D racers and them getting better.
I'm not really into arcade racers anymore, but 90's me would've tried those other Midway games.

cruisin world actually gets kinda deep with the wheelie gimmick because you can use it to do tricks off of ramps and other cars which reduces your overall time

btw Raw Thrills was formed by ex-midway devs which is why the current fast and the furious arcade games are just reskins of Cruisin' Exotica.
However if you ever see an H2Overdrive cabinet hop in it -- that's the real sequel to Hydro Thunder and is fucking amazing.

Assetto Corsa Competizione

BUT this is NOT a game for everyone. It deals specifically with the GT3/GT4 series, so there are not and will not be "more cars." This is a real-life simulator, so if someone wants to "sit back and play like in NFS". - then you've come to the wrong place.

Nothing is left out here. Tires catch graining, the track line changes from being rubberized, dirt builds up outside the racing line, which has a real impact on grip, weather conditions change dynamically (day/night/rain, etc.), tires must have the right pressure and temperature, as must the brakes, and weight (fuel burn) has a real impact on the car's handling, and setup adjustments must be made on an ongoing basis (also depending on changing track or ambient temperatures). Every detail has been considered here and there are as many as there are in reality.

I'm really not sure about that. Even with the pro simulation settings on, there's very little apparent weight shifting, and it's literally impossible to lock your brakes (except by using the handbrake). You can also quite easily cheese the physics and go absurdly fast around corners if you choose the right lines.

I would say the best in terms of physics aside from beamng would be iRacing. Subscriptions for software are shit though, so for a taste of that physics engine, go for fully modded/patched up version of its ancestor Grand Prix Legends (check out the 2020 demo for a taste, then kit out the old game, which can be found as abandonware for free), or perhaps Nascar racing 2003 for something later but not as well supported by the community.
GPL has its flaws in terms of physics, but the flaws actually make it more fun - The feeling of four wheel drifting through the masta kink at thd old Spa Francorchamps at 160mph in vehicles from arguably the coolest year for cars in F1 (1967) is hard to beat. Also the doing a 45 mile lap of the targa florio is a wonderful challenge.

The other day I did a lap of the Nurburgring in the screaming 1965 1.5 litre V12 powered Honda RA272, accompanied by a looping instrumental version of The Impossible Dream by Andy Williams and definitely achieved automotive simulation transcendence. That's the only possible explanation for the stain on my chair afterwards.

Noone mentioned Street legal racing redline.
One of the most unique racing games out there that lets you make any kind of build you want(as long as there are mods for it since game has no licensed cars).
There are few games similar to it.
THere is street legal 1 revision, But it is a predecesor to SLRR which was just recently ported to steam
THere is car tune project. But its basically SLRR in unity made by slrr modders
And there is street tuning evolution. Its in developement hell by the same guys that ported SLRR and SL1R to steam
Closes game to it rn is my summer car but it has more autistic car assembly and its an immersive sim instead of just a racing game.

Nigs cannot comprehend the sophistication of organised racing, leadership, or engineering fast cars.
All that Nigs contribute to car culture is stealing v8s and doing doughnuts in an active intersection, because that's the best way to inconvenience as many taxpayers as possible.
Dont believe the Jewish shit that these people do anything noble, heroic, or aspirational. Everything about them in entertainment media is fabricated so that Normies accept and revere them. This includes gangsta rap, it's inorganic.

Only gta San Andreas is acceptable in this regard, because the entire game was mocking their crab bucket culture.

I wanted to buy unbound due to the underground themes, but I literally would have to deal with black Muslim trannies with speech impediments on my screen every 5 minutes. And the soundtrack is just demoralising rap.

Random shitboxes are really what makes the old GT games great. I hate how every modern racing game feels the need to stuff you into a trillion dollar hypercar from the start, like they're scared that you'll refund if they don't instantly start sucking your dick the second you boot up the game.
I just want to race weird unconventional cars man, with or without an irresponsible amount of aftermarket horsepower, the high end stuff is fun I guess but it's just kind of boring at this point.

>>27623590
Fully agree. This is the main reason I haven't enjoyed nfs or forza since most wanted - all the hyper cars are basically the same to me, I do not care for them.

I really miss the licenced road cars that you could reasonably buy and own. I know that there were licencing challenges manufacturers became faggots that "didn't want their brand associated with street racing"

On a related note - soundtrack was also something they nailed better in the old days. I loved the indie and rock soundtrack of nfs mw 2012. I absolutely hated the nfs 2015 trap music soundtrack, it puts me in a dark sour mood. I think it's purposefully demoralising. Games like ssx and Tony hawk pro skater and gta had so much replay value due to the music.

I wish gran turismo had better racing music. I fondly think of smashing the nordschlief straight listening to not alone deadmau5 remix in gt5

>>27623707
Fully agree

As above, I'd happily run with some modern cars if I could do nfsu tier mods. But nope, exotic cars where you can barely change the colour

>>27623732
Or doing your best to get your humble starter car all the way through the game! Nfsu2 with the celica, carbon with the 240sx (maybe they weren't quite starter cars, but early unlocks nonetheless)

Reminds me how shit nfs 2015 was - it had so many elements right, but it just fucked up some key themes. Other than the music mentioned above, the modification was pretty decent, but fuck me you had to grind for cash for cars and mods. And then when you had it, you could only have 5 cars in your garage? Online only bullshit, there wasn't even an arcade mode where you could modify your cars like they allowed all the way back in nfsu1

How do devs fuck this up so badly? Sweet bebeh ink

Forza has more classic cars than any GT game did. GT2 for example had maybe 50 cars made prior to 1980, most of them being Japanese economy cars, whereas Horizon 5 has more pre-1980 cars than GT2's entire carlist
>>
>>27623707

On the contrary, the driving physics in beamng are more realistic because it actually models the wheels going up and down instead of a single object rotating around the center of gravity, and on very uneven surfaces like rally stages the unsprung mass makes a noticeable difference.

The only major realism thing missing in beam ng is tire/track degradation over time, but the baseline is a lot more accurate that most racing sims.

now hold up
the tranny and muslim are separate characters in unbound and the way they put them in is really ironically funny.
what the game doesn't tell you is that the racer rescue missions are skippable, and you can simply not help justicia to effectively remove her(him) from the game. Tranny gets replaced by an apparently Muslim girl who is so trad you can't even bet on her in the prerace wager system.

the only downside to this is losing a safehouse that isn't even in a good location, it makes the races a bit more fun too because the trannys super fast eclipse doesn't show up nor do you have to hear it. the Muslim racer has no voice lines so that's two birds with one stone.

rest of your post is retarded thin-skinned cope
it's a game about criminal activity, and NFS was always very fuck the police in tone. you are in denial of your own niggadom.

Nah man, my main point is that we can't project organisation and sophistication onto niggers. They can't do it.

You can't associate illegal racing = crime = nigger fiefdom

Illegal racing is constant risk vs reward calculation, striving for an ultimate goal, and not wanting to do undue damage/violence so as to not be caught or attract heat. It's antithesis to the nigger. All they can come up with is car jacking granny and doing shit donuts at the literal busiest intersection so they can stream it on their Obama phone and try to get a fat sheboon to fuck them.

Interesting take on unbound. It's ironic that as they push more DEI characters, they invariably have to start taking the roles of villains and cannon fodder.
Unfortunately, I can't stomach giving EA money, and they have taken the Samson option of making shit games with shit performance so they won't be pirated

If mod websites weren't run by trannies, there'd be a mod for every game to Bleach it

Excellent game and really good concept, nothing has replicated it well. I'd be very eager for a modern rendition - and, given the success of the truck simulator series I'm sure others would be too. The crux would be to have interesting roads and environments, and various mechanisms to encourage free driving without forcing it all into racing.

The handling model was actually pretty sophisticated, outside of an obvious bug with the weight transfer calculation that made short wheelbase rear wheel drive cars (clio v6 trophy) nearly undriveable without some careful tuning.

Did the sequel also have the same issue? Basically the car oversteers in acceleration and understeers in braking when it should be the reverse, until the tires start spinning. I only realised it was happening when i had to resort to some ridiculous amounts of rear brake bias before the cars started turning in the corners.
>>
>>27636122

And after checking youtube replays of sega gt 2002, it seems obvious they completely changed the more realistic physics/gameplay in the original for something more arcade style in the sequel, the centre pivot steering alone gives it away. But to be fair, even supposedly realistic car sims have centerpoint steering.

except its not cool like san andreas. san andreas was an honest to god portrayal of gangster culture, im pretty sure they got actual LA blacks to help with the writing to make it authentic. modern NFS on the other hand is a corporate, sterilized version, where the cops are comic villains all with the same hitler youth cut and annoying upper-class demeanor, and the strong and brave BIPOC warriors rise up against them by... being a public nuisance and wrecking shit with their cars and proving them right. at least in shit like nfsmw you KNEW you were the bad guy, its fucking stupid to portray lawbreaking like that as a virtuous act or some shit. the writing itself is also just painfully fucking cringe and obviously written by a board of clueless out of touch millenials who couldnt write a good story if their life depended on it.

Love the atmosphere of that game, even though when it came out I felt misled by the name.
I had the PS2 version back in the day, so Initially I missed out on the paddock atmosphere and the announcers; There's something like 7 hours of dialogue relating just to what car you have and what you did in the last race when you're in the paddock, with more to drive past when you're racing, which is crazy even now.
>>
>>27629987
The pressure mechanic is cheesy, but well done, unlike that Scuderia Corsa Alfa Romeo game, where if you are any good at it, you get past the AI cars, then your character realistically shits himself, has a heart attack, goes blind and dies because there are cars behind him on a race track for 3 seconds. A shame because the handling seems decent and the cars are cool.

(R racing wins over all regardless, because CGI FMV race driver boobies.)

in NFS Unbound it's explained that the (apparently fairly recent) crackdown on street racing is political bullshit from the new mayor who is trying to get re-elected. Mayor Stephenson, the apex of evil of NFS Unbound, is in fact a black woman.

In Heat the day races are officially sanctioned and the night races are not. The police department runs an illegal vehicle smuggling operation where it ships confiscated cars overseas. While it's true that the two main bad cops in the game are "clean cut" white guys one is an ex-street racer himself and they're both Florida Men so they are understandably fucking insane.

"autistically specific demographic fantasy"

You mean Western society until the mid 1960s when (((mysteriously))) white European immigration policies were revoked and we were opened up to the multicultural hellscape we now have?

You don't seem to understand that 1) we have nigger fatigue, particularly after fentanyl Floyd and burn loot murder chimped out. 2) blacks are 13% of the population but 0% contribution to advancement or the tax base. Their representation in game media is fully artificial, tokenism at best and full blown demoralisation at worst. I tend to the latter.

It's incredibly reasonable to not want to subject myself to gorilla faces when I want to play a comfy game. You've been propagandised to think that they are normal citizens just like you and me.

Go read up about ESG and why DEI is all over the place now. It's because your government printed money is given to companies to put "diverse" characters in media that is not reflective of real life institutions and experience.

>>27640885
What don't you understand that sophisticated crime and organisation is beyond the comprehension of blacks. While I applaud your association of blacks and crime, it is still stolen valour and projection. Blacks have nothing to do with street racing or any racing culture.
EA turning street racing into black underdog grittiness and persistence is a Jewish corporate focus group brain fart.

I don't care if there are black people in a game set in a modern American city
I care when the only option is 'nigger' or 'double nigger'. NFS Unbound for example, all of the characters are either blacks or wiggers. All of the music is modern mumble rap performed by blacks or hispanic zoomers acting black (not even any La Raza cholo shit). Compare that to Underground that had rap and urban/black culture, sure, but it also had punk and alternative and electronica. A lot of the characters were also white or asian and acted accordingly.
It seems like all western identities have all been displaced by one ghettoid monoculture where everyone is larping as some gangbanger from Compton. Everyone dresses the same, talks the same, acts the same, listens to the same music.
>>
