Can someone describe the smell of rabbits.I can't put my finger on it.I feel like my body and home has change odor.My fingernails has a new odor. When I go to the toilet my odor feels more rabbit like.Am I going crazy?
how do you pronounce "bnuuy"?
>>4762045Rabbits do smell. There's kind of a butt-like musk thing they have going on and if you touch your face/pick your nose after getting it on your hands it feels like it's everywhere.Don't be fooled by the sweet face scent, all animals have good smelling faces.

What do you feed your rabbits? I have very little experience. So far I think my rabbits taste preferences are like this:Carrot 10/10Fresh dandelion 9/10Banana 8/10Mixed dry pet food, 26% alfalfa pellets, wheat and other grains, sunflower, mixed vegetables and other stuff. 8/10Grazing on grass outside 7/10Yellow dry straw 4/10Dry grass hay, long, faded green 3/10100% alfalfa pellets 0/10 (W.T.F.?)Dry alfalfa hay, short 0/10 (W.T.F.?)Dry corn 0/10My dad says I have to keep them outside as much as possible.

>>4762386For a normal sized ~4lb rabbit:1/8 cup oxbow pellets in the morning1/8 cup oxbow pellets in the eveningUnlimited hay all day, tossed into their shitboxes. I live in an area where I can just buy haybales, if I didn't I would buy timothy hay (again oxbow). In the evening about an hour after pellets I give salad, roughly 1 cup of greens per bun. Usually half a head of romaine per rabbit because romaine is pretty well liked but not too sugary erc. This is the agreed on rabbit nerd diet and feeding schedule, I don't think you'll find experienced rabbiters deviating much from this.Parsley and cilantro are the other favorite mainstays salads but I will occasional give other types of greens like collard greens, spring mix, spinach. Those other greens aren't as popular and some like spinach or kale need to be given sparingly. Then before bed I might give a treat. Little carrot bit, apple, banana, and papaya tablets are my go to. Usually depends on what is in the house since I will eat the remainder of the fruit. All of these are one small piece that you could balance on a finger.Unless you have young rabbit kits you shouldn't be using alfalfa as the main pellet. It is too rich/fattening.
>>4762065Refer to this helpful pronunciation guidehttps://youtu.be/W-s2e_IUrJ4
>>4762884yes, this is perfect
>>4762884>Unless you have young rabbit kits you shouldn't be using alfalfa as the main pellet. It is too rich/fattening.Small addition to this. It's also too rich in calcium (for adults) which can lead to digestive issues in adult rabbits. However it is sometimes fed to senior buns that have difficulty staying a healthy weight/bone density.
>>4762386>My dad says I have to keep them outside as much as possible.Your dad is misinformed. They have zero need to go outside if they are free roam buns inside, and depending on you area, being outside can be dangerous. It only takes a few seconds for a hawk to scoop them up. Or they could run into wild, disease ridden buns (a very common way for them to catch diseases and infections that cause torticollis). If you can provide a safe space outside for them, it's great and they'll (usually*) enjoy it immensely though.*I have a holland lop that doesn't even like the feel of grass and way prefers to be inside. My lionhead is 50/50 on it.

New Zealand White with a little Flemish giant DNA. 12 pounds. When it gets dark or rains he is placed in the greenhouse with hay, straw and pellet seed mix.He is allowed to dig holes, I hope if he breaks out of the outside enclosure he will hang around the greenhouse. The enclosure is dragged across the ground every day so he does not step in poop from yesterday.

I just watched some videos it seems like bunnies are too much hassle I got 3 questions:-Can you train them to always pee and poop in litter with no exceptions?-How much "maintenance" do they need, showering, brushing their hair, medical attention (not so many vets in here)-Are they okay with staying in one 5 meters wide room?
>>4764254>-Can you train them to always pee and poop in litter with no exceptions?no problem>-How much "maintenance" do they need>showeringrabbits are very hygienic. one should NOT shower them, they clean themselves perfectly>brushing their hairdepending on the breed this could be necessary. nevertheless, recommended and always good to do (to prevent GI stasis for example...)>medical attention (not so many vets in here)the most common illness is GI stasis. they have sensitive guts. most cases are mild and clear out by themselves (with some help), but inexperienced owners should definitely contact a vet the first times it happens, as to not take chances. it is potentially deadly! that said, a healthy, properly taken care of rabbit with a proper diet of supermajority hay (very important) will only experience this a handful of times in its lifetime. nothing else is common. except castration/spaying of course>-Are they okay with staying in one 5 meters wide room?a 5 x 5 meter room exceeds minimum space recommendationssee >>4763971
Sleep tight bun
>>4764254>no exceptions?Even litter trained you're going to find stray cocoa puffs around>-How much "maintenance" do they need, showering, brushing their hair, medical attention (not so many vets in here)As other anon said you don't shower them. You should brush them and trim their nails once in awhile. Also good to have them fixed otherwise it can lead to complications later in life, especially for female rabbits.>-Are they okay with staying in one 5 meters wide room? The size sounds fine but the room should be rabbit proof, they're going to chew on everything they can get their teeth on.

hello fellow rabbits
I bit the bullet and got a bunny. He's fantastic. Absolutely love him. He's a good boy who eats all the weeds out of my garden. I notice he doesn"t drink a lot of water, though. Do buns just get lots of hydration out of the plant material they eat? Also, if I get a second bunny, what's the best way to know if he or she will get along with my existing one? (Male Holland lop, 3yo, not neutered)
>>4767504Make sure the plants in your garden are okay for bunny https://www.wikipet.co.uk/pet-health/dos-dont-rabbit-feeding/ Does he drink from a bowl? As long as he knows where to get water, he'll drink when he's thirsty. Bunny bonding can be tricky, especially if they don't get along. You should understand that worst case you may have two bunnies that need to be kept separatehttps://www.animalhumanesociety.org/resource/bunny-bonding-basicshttps://bunnylady.com/bonding-rabbits/
>>4767508Yeah, I have a couple of bowls and one of those specialized water bottles. It's been like five days since I got him, and he's clearly happy and having fun, so I'm not worried about him not drinking enough. Just thought it was an interesting quirk. I shall read up on the bonding thing. I think it would be awesome to have two. More than that might be a little too complicated, though, if there's a chance any two rabbits may not get along.
>>4767513Bonding is nice but one thing I forgot to mention is to be mindful that he's not neutered, but I'm sure you'll read up and do whats best for him
>>4767435If you eat hay, you can stay.
>>4767571what a pretty bun
Ears
>>4767590what a creature
>>4767520Yep, obviously the biggest thing with that is that if I ever want to get a female, she'd have to be spayed. I just read that uterine cancer is very common for non spayed female rabbits, too, and I wouldn't want that. May be best for me to stick to just boy bunnies. Kind of get the hunch that anyone with a spayed female is just going to want to hold onto her. From what I've read it seems like spaying female rabbits is a bit of an uncommon skill among vets.Actually, I wonder if an older female bunny can hit menopause... Hmm. Will have to do some more research, maybe ask a vet.

>>4767504It is a good idea to have 2 rabbits so they can be social. It is heartwarming to see 2 rabbits help groom and lick each other, and snuggle during nap time.Gender is important. In my opinion, the best to worst combo is:MFFFMM (neutered brothers)
>>4761878Stabbit because gunny will have shit aim while the stabbit is able to grip the knife in a somewhat competent manner with his teeth
So how often do rabbits sleep? I still haven't seen mine sleeping as of yet. Do they just take like short tiny bunny naps?
>>4768001I am new to rabbits but so far I have seen they do very rarely get any deep sleep. They take many short naps. They are prey animals. One of my rabbits did go into deep sleep under the sofa table, he felt completely safe there. But now he have to stay at the barn/outside because of smell and hygiene.
>>4768024Yeah, they do be big time poopers. Mine stays mostly in the backyard for that reason, but he loves it out there. Thinking they must just take really good powernaps to stay alert and not get eaten.
>>4768001Don't look at the eyes because they sleep with them open. Watch the nose...the slower it twitches the more likely they're asleep.
>>4768238>Don't look at the eyesSeconding this, simply because rabbits interpret eye contact as a threat display and will be provoked into attack attacking you. Safest course of action is to avert your gaze and prostrate yourself in front of the bunny. Do not speak to the rabbit unless first spoken to.

>>4768509Pretty sure they knew bunnies would be the most popular. So they gave them to Frye as a last ditch attempt for her to win a Splatfest.
>tfw almost impossibke to find a spayed female rabbit to bond with my little fuzzy man and not have a risk of her dying on us from uterine cancerI think the vets have a skill issue. >>4768873is your little fuzzy man castrated?

Prospective bnuuy owner here, doing my research. I have a staircase in my apartment. The staircase is carpeted but the landing at the top and bottom are tile. My gut tells me I should install a gate there. Is my gut right? And then for cord coverings, I believe split loom tubing will work for everything I own except one. I have a flat ethernet cable tacked against the baseboard running along the perimeter and under the door between my living room and bedroom. I have no ideas for covering it besides tape, but I'm not even sure which kind of tape. Any suggestions?

>>4771796Yea, it's a pretty cool system. There's stuff like rabbit martial arts and rabbit alchemy. It's still rabbits, so don't expect stuff like death touch or making portals to other planes. Think Watership Down if you ever read that. That's what it's based on.The system is based on GURPS though, so the mechanics can sometimes feel rigid. But then if you wanted you can also tie in other parts of GURPS, and play it as realistic or fantastical as you want. It's an old game system, so you'll have to make some adjustments.

>>4774109If you buy from a farmer, ask for 2nd cut, as it will be more tender than 1st cut.
>>4774364Buying from a farmer sounds ideal but based on my searches on craigslist and marketplace, options for grass hays are super limited and the few I've found don't look very green in the pictures provided. If your landlord allows it and isn't a bastard that charges monthly fees to keep pets, if your living conditions are good, if you have full control over the temperature with heating and a/c, if your neighbors aren't too loud, and if you can share enough space with your buns, then yes. Apartments are actually ideal. Gonna go out on a limb and guess you don't have kids, which is also a good thing. >>4776626woah woah, you can't say that.....Just kidding, but do bunnies really care about color? Size I can see

My pregnant bunny loves eating celery root (celeriac).
>>4777749I keep seeing buns like these posted. Are they a particular breed with short legs and extra fluff? They're so cute! I'd love to have one and watch it inch around like a furry caterpillar.
>>4777811The dewlap is an extra flap under the chin of a rabbit that contains fatty tissue. It is commonly found in female rabbits (doe), but a much smaller percentage of male rabbits may also have smaller dewlaps. The dewlap is a fold of skin found in female rabbits once they become sexually mature.

I have 2 rabbits and 3 enclosed areas that are safe for rabbits. In my opinion it is cruel to let the male live alone, but I have chosen to separate him for some days now.The female is pregnant and will likely give birth tomorrow or the day after.I will not let the male into her space because he will likely vandalize her nest and chase her around. After she gives birth I will let her visit the male to raise his psychological health and prevent loneliness. How many hours can the mother spend away from her home area and kids, visiting the other rabbit?I have read they breastfeed 2 times every day but never cuddle with the kids like a cat or chicken does.

My bunny have just made a new liter of kits.I will count them and inspect that they are all alive later today.I plan on not touching the kits and use chopsticks to move the fur so I don't leave my scent in the nest.
New prospective bunny owner here. Somehow I got it in my head that it was a good idea to build an indoor rabbit enclosure from furring strips and hardware cloth rather than just buying an x-pen. Now that I'm nearly done constructing it, I'm finally starting to feel like it was a bad idea. Don't love the way the hardware cloth is sharp on the edges, even if I spend hours filing it down and smoothing every inch, and the wooden frame has a small chance of being chewed through. Should I cut my losses and just buy the product that's purpose-built for this? Could always turn my project into a garden fence.
>>4780386Congratulations!
>>4780497Waste management is a critical aspect to consider. When people donate bunnies away it is because they underestimate hygiene, cleaning and air quality.Intact extra large male rabbits that live inside a HEATED and ENCLOSED living space radiate too much body odor for human cohabitation.
>>4761865why did the AI decide to plop a random UFO in the background?
>>4780538Thanks.The kits are 32 hours old in the picture.I did not pick any of them up when trying to count, so there may be some I did not see, I think there are 7 kits. The mom is allowed unlimited bird seed to help make more milk. She has access to straw, timothy hay, mixed rodent feed and alfalfa pellets.

My little friend penut. She is cutie mini Rex. I love her. Almost 4 months old and had her for 2 now.

I tried feeding with Lovage herbs because they have a really nice aroma. The bunnies did not want to eat it.What plants do you give?

>>4783246Very cool. Wife is getting another bunny after penut is spayed to keep her company as she is a very very social little gal. It’s so cute when she does her little hops when I get home from work.
>>4783786>her little hopsWe call those binkies around here, pardner
I found some half tube rain deflectors that have to correct size for rabbits. I will cut a hole in the plastic doors and glue the half tubes to the hole. I will help keep the straw inside the rabbit shelters more dry.

>>4784313The traffic signal was completely destroyed from a collision. The workers will put up a new on and throw the broken one in the trash, they can't fix it.
Have had a bunny for like a month now. He is wonderful. But he does do this one weird thing where he will nibble my pant legs and socks. Is that just him trying to get me to pat him? He is so sweet.
I got 50lb of hay cause it's cheaper. I put it outside in the shed. Is there any risk of it developing mold? If so, how long would it take? I had it in the storage for about a month now and the box was already opened. Can I still salvage it by putting it inside the house or should I buy a new one? I'm paranoid that I'll kill my rabbit or hurt myself from farmer's fever.
>>4785450You know they can just eat the weeds from your lawn or garden, right?
>>4761865
>>4785366Perhaps you should wear pants and socks that aren't so delicious. >>4785450Where did you get it from? As long as it's in a bag or box made of paper or cardboard, or at least otherwise has holes for airflow, that should fend off mold pretty well. You'd likely see or smell it if mold did start developing too. Being in an outdoor shed doesn't really make matters worse in that regard. What I would be more wary of is other critters getting in to it.
>>4785635yeah I ordered the hay off chewy. Its in a cardboard box with the hay being in a plastic bag. Should i take the hay out of the plastic bag?
>>4785673Look closely at the bag, it may have holes or slits cut into it that may be hard to see. I get the 6 lb. bags from Chewy and that is the case with them, so I don't know about the proper sized bales. You can probably cut holes in it yourself, or just ditch the bag and plop the bale in the box as long as it's sanitized. Cardboard should be breathable enough to circulate air.
>>4785690Alright I'll check. Thanks for the advice and help fren. I get paranoid easily and I wanna keep my buns safe
>>4785695I understand the feeling! I'm the same way. Fastidiousness has to be one of the best traits any pet owner can have.
>>4785695… bunny king?

>>4785726Wow!
>>4785457This.Big Pet Food doesn't want you to know this, but the dandelions in the park are free, you can just dig them up and take them home.
>>4785792I don't mind spending a bit of money for hay if it's consistently high quality every time, but the issue is that... surprise! It's not. I still buy it, but that's mostly on account of convenience and lack of a local contact. What really gets me is people who will pay double digit dollars on Etsy for little bundles of twigs. Like ??? You don't know a single person with an apple or willow tree??????
>>4763661My male rabbit, Softice, is allowed to free roam outside while under close supervision. This it the first time he meet the 2 new females, they turn 8 weeks old tomorrow.Look at his tail, it stands up!He is only allowed nose touching with the white sisters until they turn 6 months.Softice cohabitate with a brown adult female 24/7 to prevent loneliness. The white sisters will likely only get male visits about 4 times every year and will never cohabitate with a male.
>>4786726Kinda wild that buns have whole entire tails, and they choose to limit their power level 99% of the time.
