what RPG has the most build variety ever? number of classes =/= build variety
>>3465737Life
Underrail has a lot of build variety. Everything from swords to laser cannons, plus skills and over 100 feats.
>>3465737Pathfinder. They've got a lot of classes sure but the class play very differently too. A mage focused on rays needs a different build to one focused on AoE direct damage who needs a different build to one focused on debuffs or bfc. A cavalier wants a different build to a sohei or an arcane rider even though they're all mounted melee classes.
>>3465737Yeah it's PF for sure.Wrath has exponentially more than KM because of the mythic layer on top of the previous permutations and the mythics play a lot different from each other as well as change up the reactivity and story a lot.I bought RT but haven't gotten into it yet so can't comment there but I doubt it's more than Wrath.D&D is going in the other direction due to things like removing racial differences and streamlining classes. The race histrionics are typical lefty cancer ideas, which remove a layer of permutation from builds and cheapen the setting, but streamlining classes down to the actual opportunity cost choices of 5e is a valid direction since a lot of things in PF are duplicated bloat for example. A fighter doesn't play exactly the same as a barbarian for but in the end both tend to wind up just swinging a big 2h every round in terms of actual gameplay. Wizard doesn't play exactly like Sorc but they duplicate a lot of features. They barely have reactivity at all and change the story none. Long term the streamlining should be better for real game design.
>>3465737Timebreak Chronicles would be my current guess. There are something like 96 of the 100 eventual characters now, each has about 6 or so abilities which are a mix of active and passive, each of them also unlocks 2 different bits of gear that can change how other characters play, and all of them have 4 gear slots each.
>>3465737Path of Exile
>>3466043And you generally make a party of 6 of them.Fuck! Submitted without the last sentence.
>>34660123y after release half the classes/choices are still not functional or invalid.
>>3465737Pathfinder. it's the only RPG that let me rp as Arthus from Warcraft 3
>>3465737From what I have played, Path of Exile by a landslide.
dungeons and dragons online
the idea of "builds" is garbage and anti-rpg.
>>3467779Sorry, what exactly is RPG? Dialogue options and fucking your frog waifu?
>>3467857nope. it's creating a character, not solving a fairly easy mathematical problem. builds=autism
Definitely not Pathfinder, those games have like 5 different builds total.
>>3467906so what's your answer?
>>3465737Elona+ if your more into more RP stuff or silly stuff to build for
>>3467912Probably Fallout-likes, few computer games provide quite as many approaches to problem-solving.
>>3467866>it's creating a characterBased roleplayer
>>3467918talkerfightershootersneakerskill monkeyah, yes...
>>3467927You forgot pornstar build
>>3467927leader, hacker, merchant, doctor also depending on the game, the fact that combat is by and large optional does a lot for this game, whereas the Pathfinder games contain very little content but combat.
>>3467932see, that's a more interesting topic to me. not "number of builds" but rather variety of gameplay options and intricacy of quests. having 5 builds isn't bad when there are at least 5 different options with every quest. having 100 builds isn't that interesting if it's just different ways to kill things.
>>3465748Game of Life was a shit boardgame.
>>3467918Fallout has like two builds and those are either the shooty guy or the unga bunga guy
>>3465737Arcanum has a lot of variety.>melee>archer>gunslinger>assassin>armchair general>magic healer>tech healer>grenadierAnd on and on. All builds are viable, as long as you put one point in Harm.
>>3467866as if builds have no impact on roleplaying of any sort.what rpgs do you play by the way? tell me your favorites.
>>3468252I mean obviously builds play into the roleplay aspect. I've learned not to argue with anons like that who are obviously baiting and being obtuse on purpose
>>3468241>All builds are viable, as long as you put one point in HarmI lol'd
>>3468254I just asked because your opinion is clearly of one that mostly fantasizes about things He'd do (and tell others as if he does) instead of actually playing.A common sightSo no need to engage, I already got my answer
>>3468269Are you a bot or esl? I have no idea what this post is saying
>>3468272I wrongly assumed you were referring to me as the obtuse anon, my bad.
>>3468252i play all kinds of rpgs. i don't really have favorites. wizardry 7 is probably what i imprinted on most strongly. it's less about the games and more about the discussion around games. i just don't value "build variety" or build wankery.
>>3468345>Wizardry 7>not build wankery
>>3467866>it's creating a character, not solving a fairly easy mathematical problemsims and saints row best rpgs ever
>>3466043>>3466045I've had my eye on this for a while, how far off is it from a "finished" state? I generally avoid early access periods because I like my first playthrough of a game to be a relatively finalized version.
>>3468606yes.
