Technically gazers are different than beholders in dnd.

My favorite beholder fun fact was beholders were originally in FF1 but got changed to simpsons aliens in the US release to avoid copyright.

It's only got around 150 HP, but it's first attack is often "XXXX" which almost certainly kills a party member at this point in the game. To add insult to injury, this is at end of the Ice Cave, which isn't exactly a cake walk.

it's pretty funny that most of FF1's monsters are straight out of D&D, but the beholder was the only thing that really needed to be changed.
