Yep, it's ludo.
>>10886749My only gripe with the game is that, despite what the box says, the "campaing" is only 1 player, super star and Dreamlad 3 were 2 players, and Goemon's great adventure on N64 had 2 players and was in 3d, so why not Kirby 64?. I really like above the clouds. Good reendition of butter building
One of the best looking n64 games
Baby game with nonce fanbase.play KDL2, the patrician Kirby game for BIG BOYS.
>>10886858It's impressive how many unique assets the game has, every single level looks different and even has unique setpieces in it. You look at something like NSMB and how shameless it is at recycling material and you gain new appreciation for the effort that went into this game.
>>10886853Fair but the knockout minigame on the floating chessboard was the tits
>>10886749I hated it when I rented it back when it came out. I thought it was completely devoid of the soul that was in Kirby’s Super Star and Kirby’s Adventure. And the no co op/partner mechanic was such a letdown.Lately I’ve been giving it a second chance, and I actually do appreciate it some ways - difficulty, bosses, size of the levels. But I still just can’t get the engagement or joy out of it that I had in playing Adventure or SS
>>10886858I played a bit (up to when you meet the painter) and I don’t understand this at all. It looks like a Super FX game.
>>10887105Every kirby thread, no matter the game:>uuhm Super star / adventure is better and have more soulEvery.Single.Thread.
>>10887659Don't be ridiculous.
>>10887710Shimomura games have the most soul, this isn't even up for debate. But Sakurai games just play better, in every way.
>>10887750I'd love to talk about the other Kirby games but it ALWAYS devolves into>Too slow, unlike superstar>just a shitty adventure clone>doesn't play like super star/adventure>look like a baby game, super star is betterEvery single time, not even /v/ is that asinine when it comes to Kirby and you can acutally talk about the games proper.
>>10887750The enemies are cute. I like how most of them are just chilling but kirby will eat them anyway to steal their powers.
>it's the weekend>big storms a brewin' tonight>going to hit up the gas station for a slushy>come home and play Kirby 64 and Klonoa: Door to Phantomile Yeah boyz. Perfect double feature. Care to join me?
>>10887768
>>10887776Fuck yeah, perfect weekend right there.
>>10887784
I liked the combined abilities but nothing in the game really puts your ability to use them to the test.
>>10887962Yeah they're mostly there to collect the shards.
>>10886853They planned to make it 4-player co-op, but they had to rush it to release, IIRC. The four-player minigames and the fact that Adelaide, Waddle Dee, and Dedede (and are the playable characters in the minigames) are prominent are artifacts of that. Also, Goemon's Great Adventure was 4-player, not 2-player.
>>10887750They definitely don't, and look like fanfics (with usually much worse gameplay, excluding DL2). Now kill yourself.
>>10886749Speak English
>>10887710How are Crystal Sharters any different? It's that but N64 nostalgia faggots and a few kiddy simps. In fact, they're the Shimomura equivalent of Super Star fellation.
>>10887792Basically me
>Rat Attack brought back 64 abilities combos (and unironicly Zero, the 3rd time)>it's worse in every way>the most interesting combos is on the swords>Shit Allies did the same shit but tad better and more universal, now stuck in more boring nu-Kirby gameahhh i just want a true Kirby 64 sequel already I already got my perfect SS successor (Robobot), now i just want 64 2.
more like turdy 64, amirite?
>ripple star queen your braids of hair are divine my love
>*smooch* *smooch* *smooch*
>>10887962i thought up some extra challenges for the game when i was going for all the enemy cards:challenge 1: beat the game start to finish with no copy abilities. inhale/spit/lift enemies overhead/hover/air bullet are all fine. you can't get all the shards this way, so that's why:challenge 2: beat the game and get the true ending, but only have each copy ability and combo once. even getting fire before double fire counts as using up fire. having an ability star in your mouth doesn't count, but once you swallow and get it, it counts. when you have an ability, you can use it all you want until you lose or discard it. no exiting or going back to previous levels, no deaths. unclear if it's even possible.
most adorable thing ever
>>10889357
>>10887776>>10887790Alright I'm back homies. Did a 100% run of Kirby 64. Neo Star was the worst planet by far. Annoying and the shards there were especially frustrating to get. Still love the game I just wished you moved a little bit faster. Favorite combo ability was the fireworks one. Really solid all around. After that I played a little bit of Klonoa. On the Moon Castle now.
>>10887750but why does he bleed blood from his eye?
>>10888750>Crystal ShartI still have that one pic locked away from my other drives lol
>>10891757what else would he bleed from his eye?
>>10889357Fuckable, even
>>10886749Ludo doesn't mean "game I like", it specifically defines a level of gameplay that feels out of this world. Kirby 64 is a mid platformer with a cute soundtrack and charming visuals. Examples of ludo in Kirby include playing as Meta Knight in Nightmare/Robobot, City Trial in Air Ride or The Great Cave Offensive. The only ludo aspect about 64 is the concept of combining abilities, yet it fails to make the act feel meaningful with its bland levels, poorly balanced abilities and enemies.
>>10886749it was kino
I always hated the smash bros limited jumping
>>10888750you're on /vr/ this board is all about nostalgia
>>10886871Kirby's Adventure is the best game in the series for big boys by a wide margin.
>>10893121I guess the 3DS should be discussed here then
>>10893135That game is essentially KDL2.5
Well, Japan loves it.
>>10894286It partially can be because there are so many remakes for it
>>10894286Well...
I love the fairy queen!
>>10896481No
>>10896421I was referring to that retarded stunt TPC did to get the media to talk about Pokemon X/Y again
>>10886915Probably has something to do with how few of them there were. There are only 22 of them, which is half as many as Squeak Squad, and less than any other mainline game besides the original. This was almost certainly due to the limitations of the N64, so they did like Mario and countered this by putting more effort and collectibles into every level.
>>10896974It's the best release of Kirby's Adventure because it's identical to the NES game but without any sprite limits or slowdown.
>>10886749A very underrated Kirby game, and N64 game in general.
>>10892329You're thinking of kino. "Ludo" was created by newfag autists that didn't understand how "kino" was being used. Ludo will always be a reddit-tier term.
>>10893135>>10894292This game is not even close to being difficult (not even the final boss or the extra modes). Dream Land 2, on the other hand, is the closest Kirby has ever gotten to being difficult (except for DL1's Extra Mode).
>>10897225There's nothing difficult about DL2, other than the usual obtuse Shimomura puzzles where you need a very specific power/animal combo to collect the rainbow drops.
>>10897512>Iwata: "Dream Land 2 is one of the most difficult Kirby games we made"Maybe he meant because it's a lot easier to die. Besides that, the rainbow drops hunting sucks, for sure, but the powers are some of the series' best (and completely ruined in DL3, the first mediocre Kirby game)
>>10897225Kirby's Adventure Extra Mode is the real game. 3 health, no saves.
>>10887740Blinded by nostalgia. This complete garbage came out TWO YEARS after Banjo-Kazooie.
>>10898054It came out 3 years after Klonoa and Pandemonium 2, and it looks and plays worse than both.
>>10898054games fun with good music
>>10898054It honestly looks like an early PS1 game, it reminds me a lot of Klonoa but plays worse and has less style
>>10897753You still have infinite continues in it. The only "challenge" it presents is that you have to beat it in one sitting (which will take you maybe 3 hours).
>>10898767I didn't remember there being infinite continues, but II just checked and there are. Still, getting through some later stages and bosses with only 3 health can be real rough.
>>10898054This is one of the few 2D 3D side scrollers where all the assets and background settings are unique in every level, no other Kirby game does this in the future. It feels like you're actually travelling around through different parts of the same place.
>>10898879I didn't say it was fun, but it's barely a challenge. The real challenge of that game is the boss rush mode, since you get no powers and (iirc) there are no health refills between stages.
>>10899652it's actually incredible how realized the worlds are. not only are the parts of a level connected to each other, the levels themselves are too, so each planet sort of forms a big continuous level. even the picnic areas for the goal game are connected to the screens before.the final regular level's layout is sublime. you keep going up the castle, having just snuck into it in the previous level. you keep going up and around, spiraling up, seeing different parts of the christmas tree. note also that the structure of the level matches the external structure of the fairy castle. then at the very top you see the massive shadow that serves as the boss arena. right at the end you get a screen where, after all the enemies that have been thrown at you, there's just the waddle dee-like N-Zs falling down. it's a bit of environmental storytelling as it reveals this shadow to be the source of the N-Zs. it's just like how zero is literally shown to be the source of dark matter in dream land 3.
surprised nobody is talking about how you can combine two abilities. That is the biggest thing to me that stuck out about this game were how fun the abilities were to mix and match
>>10901226Silly anon, this is a /vr/ thread, meaning we only shit on the game in question and everyone who likes it.
>>10901226Even as a kid it was only a fun novelty for like an hour. Once you've created all the possible combinations (super easy to do because the first 2 levels offer every power type between them right at the start) and you realize most of them are useless, either due to being jokes or just impractical, the novelty wears off and you're left with a Kirby game with fewer useful power-ups than any other previous Kirby game.
>>10901226Problem here, as well as in the other Shinomura games, is that all the power ups have 1 move and 1 move only. So despite having "more" power ups they aren't as fun to use as the ones in Super Star.>le Super Star dick suckingGet used to it, it's a near objectively better made game.
>>10896559Same! Nice picture!
>>10896559she doesn't wear that in the game
>>10892329>cute soundtrack and charming visuals>mid platformerbrother your brain must be out of this world to have this kind of thinking
