Post retro videogames that never saw the light of day, unrealized demos included
>>
>>10868432
that's a proof of concept not a real videogame type of video game
>>
>>10868432
Didn’t this become pikmin?

yes
>>

Pikmin was built off this tech demo, yes. The confusion comes from the fact that there was apparently another game called "Mario 128" that grew out of it and was planned to be released late in the Gamecube's lifecycle. We later figured out it was just pushed to the next console and renamed "Super Mario Galaxy". Notice how both games use the same spherical map.

It was originally for 64DD with Miyamoto calling it Mario 64 2 then 128

I want this Wave Race 64.
>>
Is it true that Miyamoto came up with the idea of Pikmin while playing SimCity in his garden?
>>
>>10868845
probably didn't worked knowing how bottlenecked the N64 ended up jumping from the Ultra64 to the N64, also, early release cart.
>>
>>10868846
Yep, it's true. I'm miyamotos brother and i can confirm it's true.

What type of response did you expect????
>>
>>10868439
You're looking for the term tech demo.
>>
>>10868846
He came up with the idea while he was stomping on ants in his garden, pretending they were Gunpei, shortly before his mysterious death.
>>
>>10868439
There was in fact a real 'game', or a series of genuine prototypes known as Super Mario 128. This can be gleamed by numerous interviews with Miyamoto up until 2007 or so. These were experiments unrelated to both Sunshine and Galaxy, but never materialised for one reason or another. Then suddenly Miyamoto backtracked and stated that Mario 128 was this tech demo for the Gamecube, which was obviously bullshit.

In 2005, Miyamoto literally said "Yeah, we're finally releasing Mario 128. That's not going to be the final name of the game, but it's gonna be on the Revolution (Wii) and we're revealing it next year".

It was Mario Galaxy.

I don't care very much for Super Mario 128.
>>
>>10869565
Coincedence. Mario 128 couldn't be Galaxy, because Galaxy only began development after DK Jungle Beat was released in 2005. Mario 128 had been an ongoing project years before then.

I was so hyped back in the day for Star Trek: Secret of Vulcan Fury, but it was WAY too ambitious. They were basically aiming to advance several different technologies past 1999's state of the art, all on a single project. When Interplay execs realized how much it was gonna cost to finish this thing, they flipped their shit and pulled the plug. Can't say I blame them, since I'm not sure they'd have ever made their money back on this white elephant, but man, it would have been fun to see them run the company into the ground and get this out anyway.

could you even play this
>>

Gunpei's death wasn't mysterious retard. he just died in a car crash. The Yakuza was not involved and you'd be a retard to believe the idiots the say that. this is coming from someone who loves conspiracies.
>>
>>10868432
That looks so silly, even for a Nintendo proof of concept.

I'll never NOT be salty.

I blame Harmony Gold for this. They probably had nothing to do with the cancellation but they're such a dogshit company that they should be blamed for everything anyways.
>>
The crowd tech became Pikmin, the planetoid behavior became Mario Galaxy
The real Mario 128 was probably a series of tech experiments being pitched that ended up creating the core gameplay of Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy and Pikmin, possibly other games too.
>>10869647
Galaxy is not Mario 128 but Mario 128 evolved into Galaxy, with a team being created at some time to develop a new full game around technology and gameplay elements that were already maturing without a full game having emerged.

supr marior 821 if he real lol

I wanted this. Even years later getting my Robotech OVAs. Still hoping.

StarCraft: Ghost is the obvious one here, since it was in development since the early 2000s. Also the various iterations of what became Duke Nukem Forever.

>>10869746
I was so hyped for this game and very genuinely disappointed when it never happened. All the previous Trek adventure games to the that point had been pretty good.

>>10871879
It’s just tough to comprehend when people, especially accomplished or notable ones, die in random accidents. But it happens all the time. People have to conjure conspiracies to make sense of it all.
>>
>>10868432
A good game for Saturn.

>Mario 128

WTF, I need to play 128 games in release order to be 100% caught up with Mario Lore?! That's a lot of gaymes...
>>
>>10874613
I think it's more likely there were just multiple things called Mario 128:
>the original tech demo, called Mario 128 because there were 128 Marios since it was a 128 bit system
>the sequel to Mario 64, called Mario 128 for obvious reasons (later renamed to Sunshine)
>the later Mario game that was inspired by the tech demo, which used Mario 128 as an early working title as an homage to said tech demo (later renamed to Galaxy)
These three things were never the same project, but all had "Mario 128" as a working title at one point or another. The confusion stems partially from people who thought the tech demo was an early build of the "Mario 128" they kept mentioning in interviews, and partially from the fact that Miyamoto was talking about two completely different games when he was asked about it in different years.

I'm gonna be the one that says it. DKR on GameCube looked like dog shit. I'd much rather race the cars/hovercraft/planes instead of animals. I know all the footage is pre-rendered but I can already feel how janky this would have controlled in my mind.

Fuck it, I don't even need my mind. Look at how janky the cancelled Xbox Saberman game looked that was retooled out of this. Now imagine if you had to race those animals around against other people/AI
