>six nights in Tokyo
>six nights in Kyoto

My first time ever visiting Japan. Is this a good itinerary? I don’t want to rush myself during my trip and enjoy both cities at a comfortable pace.
>>
>>2631475
Already got my ticket for Teamlabs booked!
>>
>>2631471
six days for kyoto is too much
>>
>>2631482
Not really. You can do plenty of day trips from it.
>>
>>2631471
Too much time in Kyoto unless you're planning a couple daytrips.
>>
>>2631471
I did 7 in tokyo, 5 in kyoto, and 3 back in tokyo before I left for my first trip
shit ton of stuff to do in tokyo it's overwhelming
kyoto has some cool historical stuff and a few temples but if you're not into that then you'll probably be a bit bored
>>
>>2631471
You'd probably be better off staying in Osaka and just doing day trips to Kyoto, Kobe, Nara, etc. Osaka is in a more central location compared to Kyoto.
>>
>>2631471
I did 7 nights in tokyo and there was still much to do, just split the other 7 days into 4 osaka (1 just for Nara) and 3 kyoto tho
>>
>>2631619
based osaka poster.

I went to: osaka, nara, kyoto, kanazawa, takyama and tokyo and Osaka still takes the cake for capturing the spirit as a whole of Japan to me.

I like Osaka, but goddamn were there a lot of Chinese tourists. Also the nightlife seems smaller. I ran into the same group of British guys 3 nights in a row out there.
>>
>>2631624
>Also the nightlife seems smaller. I ran into the same group of British guys 3 nights in a row out there.
lol, that's pretty funny
>>
>>2631471
I'm in the same situation
>6 days tokyo
>1 day mt fuji
>4 days kyoto/osaka/nara
>1 day ghibli park

not sure if I have too many days in tokyo vs kyoto, especially since half of one of them kyoto days will be eaten by traveling from mt fuji to kyoto
>>
Kyoto was kind of a letdown. Tourism industry was way too established. The less I saw of the main sights the happier I was. Golden temple was good though.

Unironically though I did a Maiko experience and that was both cringe and amazing
>>
>>2631471
Should be like two in Kyoto and ten in Tokyo. You'll definitely be rushing Tokyo.
>>
>>2631471
6 / 6 is a fucking terrible idea.
Just finished up my 3rd day in Kyoto today and that was enough. To be honest I basically dodged the crowds completely, if you insist on seeing the same top 10 kyoto sights every website in a google search will list like i just did, come prepared and start your day at 05:30. I had 5 days in Tokyo by comparison and left feeling like I could have just stayed my whole 3 weeks there
>>
you don't deserve a separate thread for this. fuck off
>it goes in all fields.
>>
Why are you all staying so short? Me this october
>14 days Tokyo (Akasaka)
>10 days Osaka (daytrips to Kyoto, Nara, Kobe)
>2 nights Hakone for some Onsen fun
>5 days Tokyo (Shinjuku)

Only disadvantage is that I have no other paid day offs this year but who cares, time goes so fast
>>
>>2632652
Because I have other countries I want to explore.
>>
>>2632652
Because I am going to the land of hangooks after too. 21 + 20 > your numbers

idk if you're into it but kyoto has loads of cool little jazz bars
good places to chat to locals and tourists
be warned though your clothes will stink of smoke afterwards
>>
>>2631471
I think 3-4 days in Kyoto is better, but my strong advice is that you get out to all of the popular temples/tourist sites very early in the morning (5am or so is best, that way you can avoid the massive crowds and enjoy the scenery, and take good photos). Kyoto is a stunning city with lots of great history/architecture/nature, but the throngs of crowds later in the day at the popular sites make it much less attractive. From Kyoto, a day trip or overnight stay in Nara is definitely worth it, and Himeji castle is a nice day trip as well which you can include (both are within a 30-40 min train ride). Depending on the type of trip you're looking for, Osaka is very fun and worth seeing for at least 2 days (very close to Kyoto). Lastly, Nikko was a lovely day trip I took from Tokyo, would highly recommend that.
>>
>>2632683
NTA but anything particular I should look to visit when daytripping to Nikko?
>>
>>2632850
From the train station, I would recommend walking over to Toshogu shrine and the surrounding temple complex, very pretty walk to the shrine with all the scenery/mountains around it, and the temple is among the most impressive I saw in Japan. Kegon Waterfall was also very cool to see, it's a 100m tall waterfall surrounded by mountains (to get to the falls, you'll just need to take a 40 minute bus up the mountain, which is a pretty scenic ride). A local Japanese guy recommended Nikko to me as his favorite place to visit, also told me about onsens/hiking trails they have, but I didn't have time for the onsen when I went the first time (will be back though). I was there in May last year, but I think it's supposed to be gorgeous during fall as well with the leaves changing.
>>
Realistically, how many Geisha wigs can I rip off in 6 days?
>>
>>2631471
Yeah that is good if you never have been Japan. You can use those cities as bases to go check out some stuff in and around as well like Hakone from Tokyo or Nara and Osaka from Kyoto.
>>
What even is there to do besides day trips? You just eat and drink otherwise, right? You can do that anywhere.
>>
>>2632652
I’m thinking about doing 1-3 months in Japan this year or next.
>>
It's a good itinerary OP - consider day trips as optional things if you feel like it. One thing I like about both of those cities is that you can really take your time if you want - or rush it if you want - either way you won't run out of options.
>>2631482
wrong
>>
>>2631471
why 6 for each? you some kind of satanist?
>>
>>2631500
Yeah, but probably better off in Osaka if that's what one is going to do
>>
>>2636963
It's truly irrelevant. Shut the fuck up already.
>>
>>2631477
>Teamlabs
Why do you boring retards find instagram bait like this fun or entertaining? I automatically assume that anyone going to this shit is fat, retarded, or both
>>
>>2631471
I'm going on Sunday for my next time after I went to Tokyo last year. Last time I just took the train to different places within Tokyo (was based in Asakusa, so did stuff like day trips to Yokohama etc.), prefectures like Saitama (Kawagoe is beautiful), Chiba etc. and then would just spend the evenings loitering around Akihabara or Shibuya. This time I'm doing 9 nights in Tokyo and 2 in Kyoto, I guess I'm just a bit of a city slicker after all
>>
I'm going to Tokyo in may for two weeks but planned on staying the whole two weeks there. Some people say 2 months in tokyo is not enough and some say 1 week is too much
>>
why does no one ever recommend visiting the north island?

Are you serious have you ever been
It's the best place in Tokyo to look up women's shorts/skirts and stare at their feet under the guise of "experiencing art". I had a blast
>>
>>2637620
>to look up women's shorts/skirts
how are you going to do that?
>>
>>2638500
There are places in the exhibit that have mirrored floors.
>>
I'll be in Tokyo the week before Golden Week, should I book my shinkansen tickets back from Osaka in advance?
>>
>>2638516
Damn. girls just walk around showing off their panties like that? I need to go there
>>
>>2638561
Sure do, especially during the summer. They have an advisory that women should wear tight fitting clothing and even have disposable shorts there for those that need it.
>>
Bros, I'm italian. Next year I'll be in Kanazawa for a study exchange that will last 6 months. I'm planning to vitis the Osaka Expo too.
I already visited Tokyo and Kyoto in the past.

What can you recommend me? Can you give me some tips? How are people on the west side of Japan? Is culture different from Tokyo/Kyoto? Are people more laid back?
I hope I'm going to be able to make some friends there, but I'm quite scared it won't be like this..

I'm lucky because the professor that will tutor me is a huge westaboo and will most probably show me around. I'll live in a dorm next to the University (which unfortunately is like 1 and a half hour from the city centre by foot)

I don't know what else to ask, I'm kinda sleepy
>>
I have some free time in June/July/August. Which would be the best time to visit Japan? How many days is it good for a first time trip? Also, is it weird to go by yourself? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
>>
>>2640756
The heat in August is genuinely brutal. Tokyo was an absolute sauna made worse by all the concrete sucking up the heat. I'd go after August if you could. September is still Typhoon season but the heat is more manageable.

Japan in general is pretty solo traveler friendly. I think two weeks is perfectly fine for your first time, because it won't be the only time. Couple days lost to jetlag, then a handful of days in the big 3 cities. As far as advice, don't overplan your trip and go with the flow. There's a ton of shit to do.
>>
>>2640775
Would July be better? I can’t after August unfortunately. Only June, July, or August.
>>
>>2640798
Early June if you can manage it
>>
Hijacking this thread, is it cringe to celebrate Golden Week if I'm not Japanese or living in Japan?
As a weeb I consider celebrating it part of the universal Otaku struggle to become Japanese.
>>
I wouldn't do Kyoto for 6 days, most places I'd visit there can be done as day trips from Osaka
It would help to get more info than just >city name
>>
>>2642702
Hi thanks for your post, I already went. Don't bump this thread again.
>>
>>2642703
Ok thanks for the update
>>
yes it is cringe to celebrate golden week you sick weeb. lived in this country for 5 fucking years and I hate anime, literally here it is fringe and smelly kids at my school watch while all the girls literally will take just standard normal adjusted japanese or foreign key words WELL ADJUSTED. your anime fantasy is gay, and after doing it myself it actually sucks. literally drinking with salary men who get beat by their wives here is fun as fuck. one time me and bussies were drinking, and we started hanging and bullying salary men with the kaicho (their boss), cool ass dude. golden week nobody gives a rats ass about it, other than people getting time off to take a weekend trip. this place legit is a soul drain the longer you stay, as a tourist I recommend Hokkaido atm. in tokyo, check out Kichijoji, and Koenji. get to them form Shinjuku station chuo orange line. stay away from Shibuya main streets, hit up Hyakkendana (street in Shibs) or Daikanyama. Basketball street is a no go, literally third worlders and fake gold shitty shops, Bball street is first street after Scramble cross. Honestly also everyone hates foreigners right now, so dont sweat being formal they will hate you regardless. If you call BS on me, look at their ultra right wing party called San Seito. Literally covid-19 reactionary party that is making LDP go super right wing atm. Dont stress cultural rules here, you are not going to be as bad as the Chinese. if you white you are tolerated, but the white worship era kinda gone.

bumping this thread
>>
>>2631471
I did your trip exactly (6 days Tokyo 6 Kyoto) and loved it. Cramming in too many cities can be stressful for your first time. Enjoy your trip
>>
>>2643262
Thank you I enjoyed it, idk why people keep bumping
>>
>>2643264
Haha didn't realize this threads a month old. I guess people like
>>2643064
are still interested in this kind of travel plan. For other curious first timers viewing this thread, consider staying at an onsen ryokan as part of your itinerary
>>
I found Kyoto to be my least favorite part of Japan. It's just too difficult to get around, the buses are honestly confusing, the trains are very limited, and it's so fucking crowded at all the big tourist sites, which is really the only reason to even go to Kyoto to begin with. Also, the locals understandably hate tourists and I found it a little intimidating.

If you do go, I'd recommend lots of day trips. I was in Kyoto for 5 days and I basically only did Kyoto itself for one day, instead I hike Kurama/Kifune shrine path, Nara, Uji, and Osaka. Kyoto at night wasn't appealing to me at all compared to Osaka or Tokyo, it seems catered to wealthier nihonjin and they don't like foreigners going to their restaurants, so the restaurants just say they are full and turn you away
>>
>>2640798
I went June/July and climbed Mt Fuji on the tail end, note that you can't realistically climb it prior to July 10th, if that is something you'd like to plan around.
>>
>>2632673
do you have any recommendations for Tokyo? I'm not OP but this is exactly what I'm looking for
>>
>>2631482
This

But Kyoto is a good base if you want to go to Ise town and Ise Jingu in Mie Prefecture. You can get the train from Kyoto station and it'll take 2.5hrs I think, if memory serves me correctly it's the kintestsu limited express train. Ise town is quite small but the village beside is Jingu shrine was pretty decent, good crowd. I went on a Saturday when Japanese be out with family etc.
>>
>>2644057
ok thanks but I already had my trip

can someone tell me how to delete my thread
>>
>>2632655
I studied abroad in Korea for a semester and, while I had a great time and made a ton of good friends, it was more in spite of the location rather than because of it. It really is just a much smaller and shittier japan filled with too many vapid, insecure people. If you're into nightlife the clubs are pretty shit and if you're more into nature and architecture there's practically nothing worthwhile. Only thing I'd recommend is a temple stay, 내소사 is in some mountains by the sea and is really beautiful. 20 days sounds like way too many, you can get to anywhere in the country in under three hours so you could easily see every single worthwhile thing in under a week.
>>
>>2642821
where in hokkaido?
>>
>>2631621

Osaka is to Naples as Tokyo is to Rome as Kyoto is to Florence
>>
>>2644323
Lolno, there's no equivalent for Naples in Japan.
>>
Never been to Japan before. Looking to do 12 days total. Is it worth traveling to some far out region like Ehime to get a countryside experience? Or can I just do that shit closer to Tokyo without the expensive plane/train ride?
>>
>>2632412
>Unironically though I did a Maiko experience and that was both cringe and amazing

Did you stand awkwardly next to them and stare into the camera like typical weeb?

go to kabuki its amazing

kek, I got back a couple of days ago from that trip and just saw your reply, the time/money isn't a problem but yeah that's Korea summed up perfectly. Insecure is the EXACT one word I have been using to describe that place.. What the fuck is up with all the little twink faggots half your size wanting to shoulder check instead of give a couple of inches to walk past? Why do they need to feel the need to act the big man in every situation because they're hot shit now from maxing out a credit card on plastic surgery and gucci shoes? I was really done with them after the first week. It really is the saddest most pathetic bunch of people I have ever seen and I wont bother going back
>>
>>2636998
No its not Kyoto is insuferably more crowded with chinks that anywhere else in Japan and most of the things worth seeing can be seen elsewhere. 6 days in Kyoto is far too long for someone with this kind of trip especially if they wont be coming back anytime soon
>>
>>2647696
>insuferably more crowded with chinks
disagree, I ran into WAY more chinks at dotonbori alone than I ever did in Kyoto
>>
>>2647697
Yea Ill give you that dotonburi ruined osaka for me, I got sick with some mystery chink bioweappn after going there, its packed like a sardine can with asian mystery meat.

But thats just part of osaka while most of kyoto is like that
>>
>>2632673
That looks comfy af
>>
>>2631471
>hes going all the way to japan
>to only spend twelve days
really?
>>
>>2649480
Not him, but I went there for an extended weekend once. But yeah, I aim about a month at a time.

You got to remember, their are alot of 20 and 30 somethings on this site aren't early retired like us in our 40s and 50s and it's hard for them to get off more than a week or two because they decided to work for other people instead of helping themselves. I spent alot of time busting my ass in my 20s and 30s giving up vacations, girls, family etc so I could retire at 40. Not everyone is as fortunate as us to pack up our things and head out for months at a time on a whim.

kyoto is a fucking shithole. everyone is a rude asshole that even other japanese hate. every single place is overrun with fucking tourists
there is nothing to fucking do. game centers, pachinko, bars, shopping, everything is slightly fucked because of the number of foreign (and domestic) tourists. essentially, you are getting a compromised experience for everything when you come here, even for just a few days
i lived in another part of japan for 2 years and had the same umbrella for the entire time. i moved to kyoto six months ago and have had my umbrella stolen SEVEN TIMES
FUCK KYOTO

stay in osaka and have actual fun there. use it as a jumping off point for kobe, nara, yeah a day in kyoto i guess, etc.
>>
>>2644065
>If you're into nightlife the clubs are pretty shit
Have you been clubbing in Japan? The clubs in Korea are 1000% more fun, Japs just stand around awkwardly.

Yeah Korea is pretty shit for nature and architecture, but the nightlife is one of the most fun I've experienced. The people are really friendly and it's very easy to socialise with them, they also love drinking which makes nights out fun. I also loved the food.

In general Korea feels more like a party place for me, then you go to Japan to enjoy the temples and nature and whatnot.

I think I'd unironically prefer to live in Korea than in Japan if only they toned down on the retarded political / culture war brainrot that they imported from our semitic friends in the US
>>
>>2651260
Anything I should see in kyoto other than the inari shrine then? What type of accommodations did you stay in in Osaka? I am planning a mix of business hotels and hostels. Also a few hotels. Worth trying to get a ryoken in the area?
