Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
>also known as /sqt/ (Stupid Questions Thread)

For most of your quick one-off questions that pertain to travel.

If your question is very long or convoluted, it might deserve its own thread.

I'm doing some mountaineering in South America later this year, mainly hitting Aconcagua. I also want to do some backpacking while I'm down there. I usually go pretty light, one backpack that easily fits carryon light. The problem is I don't know what to do with all the mountaineering gear after. I was thinking I could ship it back home, but that looks like it costs $400. Any suggestions or unique ideas?

>born in the US
This shows up in your European passport, right?
In that case some extremely nosy official could cause trouble in Iran, since "born in the US = US citizen" holds for the absolute majority of cases.
But I am sure that there are accounts of other dual citizens out there that tell their experience and at least you're not Israeli.
>>
>>2604110
There could also be laws in places like Iran that apply to US citizens not just US passport holders. I guess the worst that could happen is an accusation of espionage but far more likely is they'll just say you need to apply for a visa as if you were an American if you have American nationality and your EU passport reflects that.
I don't know why >>2602852 would want to go to Venezuela though. There wasn't even anything good or interesting about that country before it became a socialist hellhole.

Money wise should I just bring cash? Or is there some kind of travel card that you can put money on that places accept? Won't I get charged by using my normal visa/debit?
>>
>>2604476
Bring cash if you're going there for "fun," or if you're buying your food from street vendors.

As for what kind of charges your card would incur, only you would be able to find that out, as that largely depends on the financial institution and the type of product you hold with them. As for me, I use my Visa credit card all the time when I travel abroad, and I only get charged a $5 ATM fee if I use an ATM (which I seldom do). If I use the card to pay for things directly, there is no charge. I don't have a special travel card, this is my normal everyday use credit card.

how the fuck can i find out if i can just leave and re-enter armenia as a UK citizen to reset my 180 day stay? i can't fucking find a definite answer on this, the gov website just says i can be here for 180 days per year but doesn't say shit about a visa

i know other countries have the same 180 day rue and that they can leave and return with the 180 days starting over upon entering again, but there's NOTHING on UK citizens doing it

even asked the gov via email, went to the embassy which was empty; no answer

had this issue too at my last hotel. i assume you used a web browser that keeps track of your website history (like google chrome). open your browser, enter in the url for the login screen i( if you dont remember it, just type in "login" and usually thats enough to bring up the full login url for the wifi login page, assuming the word "login" is in the url which it usually is) and visit the login page, then its just the usual business login with your username and pw.

tldr manually type in the login page url in your browser and force your browser to open the login page

I have this vague understanding that Cyprus is a contentious issue, and for practical purposes, the northern part operates as if it were a separate country. If I want to visit both Northern Cyprus and regular Cyprus, which order should I visit them for the least amount of hassle?

I'm thinking south then north would make more sense, since the southern part is more internationally recognized, so the north shouldn't fault tourists too hard for that.
But if I did north first, would I get into any shit for having a Northern Cyprus stamp in my passport?
I already understand that crossing between Cypruses on land is very difficult. I would probably have to fly to Turkey before switching sides.
>>
>>2611612
>I'm thinking south then north would make more sense
Yes but it's because the south doesn't recognize the north and gets butthurt if you visit there without going through the "proper" authorities. The south is also much better connected internationally.
>I already understand that crossing between Cypruses on land is very difficult.
It's not, this isn't the 1980s. You can cross at downtown Nicosia even. There's just passport control on both sides to go through.
>>
>>2610253
I was there recently.
It's not a bad choice as far as big cities go. Especially in South America. You can get to the mountains fairly quick and to the sea in 2 hours. The city itself is quite nice and has lots to see, quite lively too. It did feel kind of sketchy at night...I walked home from a nightclub at 2am with 5 other people in the Providencia area and was glad I wasn't alone. Lots of dodgy customers lurking around at night. In hindsight we should have got an Uber. Just keep your wits about you and your phone in you pocket while walking on the sidewalk and all should be good.

English is also more widely spoken here compared to the Southern cone of South America so a week or two in Santiago may help you get acclimatised before diving into the deeo end.

tldr how can I indirectly get more information from border guards as to why I can't use the egates to return to my own country?

I'm almost certain that I'm on a government watchlist. I'm British and every time I return I'm instantly denied by the egates and have to go through a border guard instead. This has happened several times (every time) over the last year and they wont give any information to you if you ask about it. There are definitely not any problems with my passport, it's quite new and good condition, they have no problems scanning it themselves, and I have had no problems using it in other countries. I have tried googling and the most common reply that people have managed to get is "because someone with your name is wanted/ on the run" which just seems like a low quality deflection they are trained to give. The UK doesn't have exit checks but all airlines are required to give passenger lists/passport to the government for checks so if the UK was looking for someone based on my name I would expect some kind of check on exit as that is far more logical if that was really the case but so far nothing. If it was interpol then I would expect some similar extra procedures abroad, but also nothing. I'm white British with a white British name so no mohammed shit either.

I'm hesitant to give more info but there are definitely a few credible reasons why I may be being watched. I am wondering what will be the best question(s) to ask them to find out some information indirectly to try and narrow the potential reasons down so I can figure out what the fuck their problem is and know where it is that I am flying too close to the sun

How to into footwear?
I've been around so many sweatbox and dusthole countries, and my socks and shoes become an absolute state with all the dirt and sweat. I got sick of it so I bought sandals like pic rel so I wouldn't have to wear socks and my feet could breath a lot better, and so if I was walking through dirt, it could be cleaned up a lot quicker with a splash of water at most.
Problem is that they started to rub, so I've had to buy some socks, which partly defeats the point. How do I into sandals/flipflop type things? I see people walking around in this kind of thing all the time, how do they do it? Is it just not doable if you're walking around a lot? Do I jeed them super tight, or just something with less straps?

1) Are neck pillows worth it?
2) Should I book a flight for the summer now or wait?
>>
>>2615027
1. They cost almost nothing, so worst case scenario, you try one out, you don't like it, you maybe only lose $20.

2. Would've been better if you booked several months ago, but better now than later. The closer you get to your intended travel date, the higher the prices tend to be.
2a. There is this one rare exception where prices could actually be lower when you book really close to the travel date (like less than 24 hours), but it's a massive gamble. You could either save a lot of money, or spend a lot more money. You will never spend a medium amount of money by doing this.

>New York or Philadelphia as a base of operations for the next 10 years? New York as obviously much better but Philadelphia is much cheaper
I never tried to live in Philly, but I have friends who love it that I have spent time with. It has just enough “big city” amenities to feel like a major urban center, and you’re right that it’s a lot cheaper than New York, although NYC is and feels immensely larger. You’ll spend a lot less and get a lot less, but you’ll still get a lot. So decide whether you’re more price-sensitive or big-city attracted and do your own cost-benefit analysis.

Can’t comment on the handgun bit. I live life assuming I’m never going to need to shoot anyone, or even threaten to do so. So far that’s been true, including in areas with high crime or reputations for it. Very few junkie scumbags are actually killers at heart, even if they hope to rob you. But I guess if being able to walk around armed feels important to you that’s another variable to consider.

I’ve never found them comfortable, but above poster is right that they’re not expensive, so you have little to lose.

Legal trouble and family drama help pls. Am American born Mexican.

Does México, specifically Jalisco, have any Good Samiritan Laws? I couldn't find any online. Closest I found was something protecting Healthcare workers, firemen, cops, etc. Not civilians.
>be me and dad
>visiting family in Jalisco, Mexico
>small family gathering with mom's mom (my grandma) and uncles/aunts
>incompetent caretaker causes grandma to choke
>all females/caretakers and uncles freeze/useless
>grandma mouth/tongue blue. Tongue swollen. Not breathing. Dying.
>father and I perform life saving measures: Heimlich, chest compressions, mouth to mouth.
>ambulance arrives after she's breathing
>they check her out and bring her back home 30min later
>3 days later she's got a broken rib
>currently in hospital
Long story short, inheritance drama that my dad and I have no horse in. We were just there to have dinner and visit. Other aunts that weren't there are the ones causing issues with the family that was there. They will use this as leverage.

I don't give a shit nor do I benefit at all from the inheretence on my mom's side. What I'm worried is they'll fuck with my dad and I. They may extort us to side with them or get us in some civil law bullshit for the broken rib.

Any laws to protect my father and I?
The alternative would be to let my grandma die in front of children and family. We're leaving the country Monday but plan on returning every year. It'd suck to be barred from our ancestral grounds due to lawsuit bullshit. Fucking greedy cunts.

Lastly, this the best place to post? /int/ is just /b/ with less porn.

Anyone have any advice on how to navigate Argentina's wild inflation and exchange rates for a few days in Buenos Aires? Is it just a matter of holding onto a bunch of USDrmax?
>>
>>2616565
Haven’t flown Spirit in a long, long time, but I assume luggage and seat selection will increase the price somewhat. But yeah, the base fare is that cheap.

I fly low-cost airlines in Europe all the time (mostly EasyJet, but I’ve also done Ryanair and Wizz), and it’s possible for a ridiculously low base fare to double when all the extras are tacked on. But it’s also possible to travel without using most or even any of them and to get around for dirt cheap.
>>
>>2616566
Is it just a matter of holding onto a bunch of USDrmax?
Yes, that what the Argentinians do, then change to pesos as needed at a cueva. Using your card might also be fine, since it gets pretty close to the black market rate, just make sure you don't have foreign transaction fees or other bullshit.
>>
>>2616566
Yes bring crisp USD bills with you and make sure there is no writing or scribbles on them. In BA, on certain streets there will be lots of gentlemen standing outside stores wearing money belts. You will know instantly who they are and if you look like a Gringo they'll more than likely initiate & say 'cambio' at you when you walk past. You should be able to get an exchange rate of 1000-1100 pesos per dollar depending on how much you exchange & the value of bills you have (they prefer 50s & 100s over 20 dollar bills). Some official cambios in tourist towns in Argentina offer a really good tourist rate also for exchanging dollars, you just have to bring your passport with you.

I was in Argentina for 2 weeks and only used my card once kek.

For planning, I would just put it in some combination of Google Sheets or Docs and work things out. Using a Google Calendar is too troublesome with the whole timezone thing.

I would only put stuff in Google Calendar if you've got things finalized and need a reminder you can quickly check on your phone when you're actually there (e.g. flights, check-ins, etc).

I haven't had a trip outside of my home country (that required a flight) in some time due to finances. Thankfully, things recently turned around and I'm looking to book a nice holiday near the end of the year.

My question is: Are travel agents of any use?

Would it be wise to use them for anything? Or should I just make my own itinerary and accommodations?
>>
>>2617220
>My question is: Are travel agents of any use?
Rarely, assuming you have the time and interest to research, plan, and book things for yourself.

I never used them for personal travel departing from my home country, but I was also a frequent business traveler for a few years, during which I appreciated the services of a corporate travel agent. I would sometimes have complicated multi-country itineraries to book, and couldn’t comfortably sacrifice enough of my own time or my assistant’s time in the office for it, even though we both enjoyed it. So sending an email to someone, just telling them when I had to be where, and then being served a few options to choose from was very helpful. It also helped that they automatically knew about my budget parameters, visa requirements, and potential carrier/itinerary restrictions.

The agents also had access to some negotiated rates and flight/accommodation package deals that saved me some money, which is something that a normal travel agent might also be able to offer a customer once in a while.

The other place I’ve gotten value/reduced hassle from travel agents has been using them to arrange visas. I’ve done this both for personal trips and work trips. It’s not something a traveler can’t take care of himself, with a very few exceptions, but it can sometimes be faster and easier to delegate it to someone else.

>Would it be wise to use them for anything? Or should I just make my own itinerary and accommodations?
Depends entirely on your interest in doing it yourself. It can take time and effort to research and book things. Maybe you want to invest this time, maybe you don’t. It’s always going to cost at least a little more to get someone else to take care of it, but it’s easy.

And it could be worth asking an agent if they’ve got any package deals available—it’s possible that they can find a price you can’t on flight-plus-hotel.

Non-burger here. I travel to the US at least once per two months, but nowadays it's twice per month. I'm getting to the point that I might need a US number for easy access. >Which SIM card would you guys recommend I get?? Hoping for something that's a good deal with no bureaucratic process for non-burgers.
Many of the Europeans I work with who need US SIM cards like T-Mobile; I know they have good coverage and data plans. But I think many of them probably use them just because they’re the international subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. My brother lives in the US and uses them full-time, and he rarely complains.

When I lived in the States I had AT&T, but I never liked them much. Mediocre coverage in more places than I would have expected.

People occasionally shill e-SIMs on here and elsewhere; maybe they’re a good deal? I assume you don’t actually have to swap out your physical card for these to work, but I know nothing.

Finally, you might just check your current provider to see if they’ve got any good international plans; I use my Swiss provider’s “Global XL Misleading Overpriced Bullshit” plan when in the States and it works fine. But I don’t really need an actual American number, just a working phone and data plan.

Flying through the US for the first time (Germany->Mexico, transit in Atlanta), got some questions
1) As I understand it, I need to get what's called an ESTA even if I'm just flying through the US. How long does this take, would applying a week in advance be enough?
2) I've never flown through the US, the way I know it my luggage won't be transferred between the planes automatically and I need to get it and move it myself. Is this true?
3) I have a window of 2 hours, is this sufficient to get through passport control and transfer my luggage?
4) If by no fault of my own I don't make it on time (delay on arrival, long lines, suitcase not showing up on time, etc.), will the airline (likely going to be Delta) recompense and get me a free ticket to Mexico or do I have to buy a new ticket myself?
5) Is Delta (or Air France, as operated by Delta) good to fly with?
>>
>>2617332
>1) As I understand it, I need to get what's called an ESTA even if I'm just flying through the US. How long does this take, would applying a week in advance be enough?
Officially they say it takes up to 72 hours, but it can be more in some cases. Apply ASAP just in case.
>2) I've never flown through the US, the way I know it my luggage won't be transferred between the planes automatically and I need to get it and move it myself. Is this true?
Your luggage will get removed and scanned by US Customs, and you’ll go through an immigration screening, but the process should be streamlined for international transfer passengers (for whom there will be signs). If your whole journey is on one ticket you can likely recheck your bags without going out to the main check-in desk again, but if they’re two separate tickets on two different airlines (not just codeshares) you’ll need to go out to the main check-in area to recheck and check in for your onward flight.
>3) I have a window of 2 hours, is this sufficient to get through passport control and transfer my luggage?
Should be, but it could be tight.
>4) If by no fault of my own I don't make it on time (delay on arrival, long lines, suitcase not showing up on time, etc.), will the airline (likely going to be Delta) recompense and get me a free ticket to Mexico or do I have to buy a new ticket myself?
They should just rebook you onto a subsequent flight. They may or may not offer any perks like a free hotel for the night.
>5) Is Delta (or Air France, as operated by Delta) good to fly with?
It’s OK. Not great, not awful.

Sadly no, you need to get from Heathrow to Paddington and then to King's Cross, it will take over 5 hours. You're better off flying from Heathrow to Edinburgh, it will be much quicker and also cheaper

>>
>>2617564
How old is your mum? What does she want to do (resorts? history? Food?)? Where has she already been? How long/through how many transfer airports or countries is she willing to fly?

Anyway, QANTAS has a direct flight from someplace in Aus to someplace in Italy, so I think you should go to Italy. It’s presumably long and expensive, but, hey! Direct flight somewhere that isn’t Asia or NZ!

Alternatively, how about Japan?

At a loss regarding where to live. I’ve spent my entire adult life in my college town. I’m 30 now. I like it here in some senses, but hate it in others. My social and professional life has definitely suffered from being here. I’m at a point where I almost feel like I should move on, but I have nowhere in particular I want to go. I’m planning on attending a new program for my field in a new city but that won’t be spun up until 2026. I have to figure out somewhere to go and something to do in the meantime.

ideally you want to take shots to prevent you from getting horribly sick while in the middle of nowhere in some backwater country
>>
>>2618472
Yes. Two reasons. If you’re going off grid then the preventable tropical diseases are no joke and you would much prefer the vaccine to the disease. Also arrange the prophylactic drugs for malaria. Read up about rabies post exposure procedures if you can’t get vaccinated for some reason.

Reason two: some countries need vaccine certificates (esp for yellow fever) and they just won’t let you in without them. Well they’re meant not to let you in. What really happens is a bribe is demanded at the border and any authorities you encounter will make a big deal about your absent certificate. Just get the shots.
>>
>>2618472
No. Ive lived in China for almost 10 years no vaccines no issues. No one gets vaccines for travel to China except maybe Americans because their kike doctors shilled them on it. Obviously if you get bit by a stray dog you should get a rabies shot though

I toured Kyoto and Nikko temples and gardens last fall and it was an absolutely magical time.

I'll be in S.Korea next August for work, but I plan on traveling when I'm done.
Any suggestions for places I can visit around that time. I'm mainly interested in places with :
Gardens- curated, pruned, gorgeos scenery. Be it temples, palaces, or villas.
Fresh, clean air.

Seems my options are:
>Tour the Korean gardens
Doesn't seem like there's that many, or they're not as grand as Kyoto
>Tour China's gardens
I'm worried about smog and air quality here though. I hear Kunming might be good.
>Someplace else...
Any suggestions?

Let's say I only have a month to travel around Australia (Im from Europe). I have a friend I want to see in Perth, I want to visit Tassie, see lots on the East Coast between Sydney & Cairns and potentially even go to Darwin. So time will be tight enough. Is it worth going to New Zealand also (while I'm in that part of the world)? It would make things even tighter in Oz but I may never be down under again. Is New Zealand overrated? I know it has amazing scenery but I've been to Norway & the Andes so I'd nearly go to the North Island of NZ if I was going at all (good weather trumps all when I am travelling). Does NZ offer anything culturally that Australia doesnt..... If I'm going purely just to city hop/eat good food/meet new people, will I miss anything by not going to the land of kiwis? TIA

>>
>>2617409
Synthetics or linen. Anything but cotton.
>>
>>2617332
I can answer 3 4 and 5

3)chances are 50/50.
The FAA screwed me one time by grounding my plane on the occasion of bad weather, planes in america have a good chance of showing up late and fucking up.

4)if you booked through delta ON THEIR WEBSITE for the entire way and they or the FAA did something to disrupt your flight they will usually always get you on a new flight or offer compensation (or a return ticket)

5)delta is about the best you can get with our notoriously terrible airline travel system
>>
>>2620114
Oh also if there's a long line through TSA security checkpoint you're fucked because there's no compensation for that. If it is completely their fault like the plane showing up late don't worry because they have to get you to the destination you paid them to.

If you play by the rules strictly then do not worry you will be ok

ill be traveling to central america next month and i intend on only taking a carry on. are duffel bags allowed for this? if so, any particular duffel bags i should look into?
>>
>>2620402
You can use literally any bag as long as it fits within carry-on dimension limits, or is at least close enough. Compression is totally allowed, which is much easier to do with a duffel bag. As for what particular bag, I would look into sizes in roughly the 40L range. If you want to stretch the limits, go for like a 55L bag.

Fair warning, this is generally fine for regular airlines. If you're using a budget airline at any point, they'll be a lot stricter about bag sizes.

When you're at work:

I've been to europe, the maghreb, aussie/nz, and figure it's time to tackle south america.

Which country in latin america is the best to start off with for solo travelers?

I enjoy food, beer, hiking, and boutique airbnbs/hotels with nice views. Not so much into wine, clubbing, or sexpatting.
>>
>>2620522
Go to the Bariloche area of Argentina and and head North to San Martin, should tick all your boxes. Head south to the 42nd parallel and beyond if you are willing to sacrifice boutique hotels for better scenery, less crowds and a more authentic experience. You could also cross over to Chile and hit up Pucon for similar vibes. North Patagonia feels very safe yet still otherworldly, would highly recommend for anyone's first South American experience.

Linen is GOAT but cotton is fine as long as it's not clingy (button down that isn't tight instead of a t-shirt) imo. Merino wool is also a good option, just expensive and isn't durable

Synthetics are good for managing sweat but they stink like you wouldn't believe. I also reckon they feel kind of gross when they are damp. Personally my only exception is synthetic 'sports' briefs to stop swamp-ass. I run those Jockeys that are like a synthetic mesh but with a cotton patch at the front to keep your cock from touching plastic; delightful.

Either way you will be sweaty 24/7, just embrace it.

Main thing to watch for is the weather which can be fucking awful any time of year even in summer. Get back on the mainland the day before your flight. Occasionally people get caught out by cancelled inter island ferries / helis.

They’re also starting direct flights to London and Paris which will ruin the islands so get in before it’s wrecked

temples were pretty good in south korea, gardens not so many offerings
only thing i would say about temples is that visually they look quite nice (painted with all the actual colors, etc) and new because they've often been destroyed several times, most recently in the 50s with the korean war then rebuilt
so in some ways they look much closer to what they would have historically but some people might not like that the temple you're seeing is essentially 60 years old

tl;dr if gardens are your main thing, then korea probably is not your best option but if you don't mind just seeing temples then korea has some good shit

>>2629046
You aren't going to find a better bang for your buck than SEA. That said, the nice thing about Portugal as a retirement destination is that it has the easiest visa to obtain in western Europe (which in turn gets you access to things like Schengen status). You could get that visa then just fuck off to southern Italy or any other cheap part of the EU.
>>2627448
VPN won't matter, but cache will. Some companies will only offer cheap flights the first time you visit, then ramp up on subsequent visits to push the idea of "buy now or it'll only get more expensive".
>>2625460
I'll second Troyes. Not a place I'd live long-term but very comfy.

If flights and hotels are paid for, then yes $1000 for 10 days of food and public transport is more than enough.

How does using your phone internationally work?
I'm traveling from the US to Italy, and I'd like to keep being able to make calls, use maps, and be able to look up and research locations on the go.
I read e sims exist, but it sounds almost like a scam?
What about wifi hotspots?

I use cricket which seems to only offer texting and calls to landlines.
>>
>>2632705
E-Sims are not a scam but definitely not needed in Europe. Why not just get a local prepaid, especially if you're going to Italy which has some of the cheapest data in the world? Like, literally less than ten cents per gb at times. Get a TIM or Vodafone sim from *one of their stores*. Good chance you'll be ripped off in other places.
As for wifi hotspots, they're generally pretty safe but there's always risks with public wifi. Anything like ticket purchases or other stuff with money involved is a no-go for me, but shit like social media browsing etc is fine, though a lot of café and hotel wifis can be really slow.

I looked into TIM and the local card. Seems perfect with one caveat. How do you get 2 factor authentication texts codes to log into banking and email apps without your US number?

Like leave my phone with family in the US and have another phone unlocked to buy a sim card I take with me that I forward text to?
>>
>>2633376
Ngl I haven't used call forwarding in ages, but iirc it works so that when someone calls or messages your primary number, it just reroutes it to your second number? So assuming you have a phone with two sim slots you could just plug in the new one. I'm not sure how the specifics work for every country and provider of course.

Buenos Aires vs Santiago for long term? I've been to both but cannot decide. I'm not sure I can deal with living in a city with zero outdoor options, I never have before, and wonder if I will go crazy if I need to arrange a flight just to go on a hike. Vs Santiago which is more expensive and nothing really special until you leave the city, when you will have great outdoor options. I suppose I am trying to find more reasons I don't know about yet to sway me one way or the other.
>>
>>2633407
>I'm not sure I can deal with living in a city with zero outdoor options

To be honest with those options, that applies to both. And big cities in general, they have a lot of draws but nature is generally not one of them. Maybe something smaller than one of the capitals?
>>
>>2633073
You definitely can, it used to be much easier in the past though. Now it involves being hidden from various techs which is fucken gay.

Oh if that's your time frame then Santiago is fine! I'm just used to having access to beaches and forests within ~10 minutes at best, having lived in cities between 200k-1,5m all my life so I'm even more picky.

How exactly do you go camping?
Assuming I have my tent and everything, do I just show up at a campsite and ask to stay for X amount of days?
Do they tend to have a reception area or do I just try to find someone? How often do campsites fill up? Assuming I just showed up on the day what are the chances they would have room for me? I've read most "shut" around 6pm, does that mean I can't leave past 6 or just that staff go home at 6?
>>
>>2633534
It depends entirely on the place you’re going. All of the national parks have rules and you can find them on their websites. Most state parks have rules made by that state and you can also find them on their websites. Usually you have to camp in a designated camping area and sometimes you have to buy a permit to camp and sometimes a time permit to enter the place. For example, I know Zion national park in Utah makes you camp in the designated camping area, which you have to book many months in advance because it’s so popular and you also have to get a pass to enter the park. Conversely, Cherry Springs state park in Pennsylvania also has a designated campground but I don’t believe you need a permit to enter the park and you can get whatever permit you need that month if not that week or day. And then there are places like wilderness areas where you can get a single permit and hike and camp pretty much wherever you want.

Just look the place up online and see if there’s an entrance permit required and if there’s page for camping. Every place is different.

Shutting down usually just means the staff leaves. They can’t keep you there unless the roads are closed.
>>

I have a really stupid, ignorant question to ask, so try not to cringe. I am being genuine here, I promise I am not trying to bait or troll anymore.

I'm interested in visiting Africa. Yes, I know there's a lot of crime. Yes, I know there's poor infrastructure. Yes, I know that as a foreign tourist, I'm a likely target for scams and robberies. My concern is with the food, actually.

I heard that the food can be incredibly sketchy. I don't even mean because it was made in dirty cookware with unwashed hands, but because of what they put in the food. I've heard some really sketchy shit, like the meat they use could be wild animals, roadkill, rodents, even human flesh (such as their dead grandmother, or a neighbor who disappeared under mysterious circumstances).

I've obviously heard this from somewhere, and while I can't verify it, I do find it plausible. Is there any truth to this? Should I become temporarily vegetarian (or eat only seafood and poultry) if I ever do visit Africa?

It's no less awkward than doing anything else in life alone. I say this as an introverted married person who has years of experience both being by myself in everything that I do and doing nearly everything with a partner. How is being alone on a trip any different than doing any of the things that are a part of your routine alone? I'm sure you know how it feels to sit down in a restaurant alone. Now you're just doing that in a different place. It's not really that weird.

Question about the upcoming Rail Strikes in England. Saturday, 6 April I'm traveling from Cardiff to Edinburgh. I have to change trains in Manchester. Africa is a big place anon, where are you thinking of going?

Bushmeat (rats, monkeys, snakes, bats etc) is widely eaten in sub Saharan Africa. You can avoid having to eat it if you want but if you go out of the little isolated pockets of globohomo you will encounter it. Muslim countries have food taboos so have way less rat meat on offer.

Cannibalism i’ve only heard of in war zones. But it’s Africa anything is possible.

Hello /trv/, I am hosting a friend visiting from Belgium in a week. I am in Texas. I would like to take him some places to do things that are very American experiences. So whether you're American or not from here, what are some things you might want to try other than just going to sightsee famous places? I'm in the urbanized part of Texas, not out west.

It's kinda stereotypical but I suggested he might want to go to a gun firing range, see a rodeo, have authentic barbecue and Texmex, and possibly ride a horse. Any other ideas?
>>
>>2637851
You already have some good ideas, let me add some more:
>shopping at Walmart or the biggest hypermarket in your region
>watch a local HS or college ball game, bonus points if you know anybody there
>Buccees seems to be a new thing
>>
>>2637878
That's not a bad idea. Buccees are actually all around the place since they were founded here. Personally I don't see the appeal as much as some other people but now that I think about it, these big trucker-stop gas stations like Buccees, Flying J, etc. are something really unique to our car-culture here. Good idea.
>Walmart
That's actually pretty funny since I said we could go out shopping when he got here to buy whatever he wants like coffee or snacks for the week, so we were probably going to go to one anyway. I have a Sam's Club membership which is also owned my Walmart, same idea except even more bulk.
>Sports games
This is a good idea, although football is like a fucking religion here so I wonder if I could even get tickets this late - even for a HS or college game. Maybe a local CC is less popular.

Those ideas are good. Firing range Euros love because they never smell the taste of freedom, just kebabs. Look at Airbnb Experiences, when I went to Austin this hoe I was banging and I did a couple. >>
>>2637836
Hey man, thanks for your reply, I found it very informative.

>Africa is a big place anon, where are you thinking of going?
There are numerous countries that I'm interested in visiting, but realistically I'm probably gonna start with Nigeria, Ethiopia, or Kenya. Two of these are coastal countries, so I guess seafood is an option if I'm still gonna be a little bitch about meat. I've had Ethiopian food before, and I know they can do solid vegetarian dishes.

>Muslim countries have food taboos so have way less rat meat on offer.
Never thought I would be happy to be around muslims for once. That is such an excellent point.
>>
>>2638018
>Nigeria, Ethiopia, or Kenya
You already know about Ethiopian food (hopefully not just from a westernised restaurant)

Nigeria and Kenya are big on bushmeat, but you can certainly do a trip there without eating any of it. It's not like your average African is eating giraffe steak or smoked rat every day. Main rule is only eat food that is piping hot, preferably cooked in front of you, to kill any bugs. They were both British colonies at one point, which weirdly helps with this sort of thing
>>
is American Airlines so bad that you're better off taking a one stop flight with another airline over a nonstop flight with them?
>>
>>2638782
If they're that bad, then they just might arrive late for your layover, causing you to miss your flight. I would rather fly nonstop.
>>
I have a long flight with a two hour layover in the middle. All other flights I've been on were direct.

What actually happens if I miss the connection for some stupid reason (I'm going to turn up on time and I won't have any visa / customs / security issues). I'm assuming I get rebooked onto the next suitable flight at the airline's expense but maybe I am being naive
>>
>>2638991
If it's one ticket and the airline makes you miss the second flight, you'll get rebooked on the next possible flight. You'll also likely get some food or even accommodation and in some cases you even get a cash payment.
If the airline brings you to the transfer airport on time and you miss the connecting flight then you're out of luck. Sometimes they'll let you rebook onto the next flight for free, depending on what caused you to miss your original connecting flight.

Are there any suggestions for cities in Europe that are safe, pleasant, and affordable, preferably in Eastern Europe?

My long-distance girlfriend and I plan to meet for two weeks in July somewhere in Europe (ideally Eastern Europe). We anticipate spending most of our time inside of the hotel/Airbnb. However we'd prefer a city that isn't too crowded with tourists and offers a variety of affordable and tasty dining and desserts. We would prefer a more modern and urbanized city that possibly had a few anime or geek events, since we dislike rural areas and historical/old cities.

I exchanged at SeoulTech in 2017, it was extremely relaxing.

SeoulTech isn't on the same level or even league as seoul national, but then again, I have seen seoul national students fail courses in the EU, so that may not say much.

If you want free B+/A+ grades, go there for sure. If you want to have a good stay got for the intl. dorms and skip on the cafetaria lunches. Plenty of markets around.

It's location is just perfect, the campus may honestly be one of the best spots in Seoul. It's a tad far away from the center, but it's really easy to get into the nature with Bukhansan around the corner.

The street next to SeoulTech is riddled with bars, pc-bangs, noraebangs etc. No need for itaewon with annoying vloggers when you can have a more authentic experience 500m away and just crawl drunk home.

lemme know what more info you need about culture and what not. May be able to even recommend classes as some were quite boring.

You are unlikely to carry an infestation without the little bastards eating you alive. The bites are unmistakable.

To kill bugs you need heat as the eggs survive dry cleaning. If you’re away then it’s perversely easier to deal with as you just run all clothing through a tumble drier. Delicate clothing is discarded or vacuum sealed for two years. You have to dispose of your suitcase, toiletries etc.

But this is nothing compared to getting them out of your house once they’ve gotten into the carpets, behind your power sockets etc.

You really don’t want to bring these fucking things gone with you

What’s the best/craziest shit we can do?

I’ve already been before and done the bars and shit. I’m looking for something extraordinary as it’s a super special day

early 20s guy from London looking to move to Glasgow or Brighton, which one should I pick?
Looking to make loads of friends and date qts, both cities are great for that and both have lots of things to do that I'd enjoy, but atm I'm leaning towards Glasgow because it's cheaper and bigger (more variety so don't get bored as easily)
Sick of the soulless inhuman dump they call London

Any irish chads/frequent tourists here? I want to take my mother to visit her ancestral homeland and could use some advice.

My mother is an introvert, she doesnt like big cities or crowds. She likes natural beauty (forest, rivers, the sea, blooming flowers, birds, horses, etc), camping and stargazing. Her hobbies are reading, walking in nature, quilting and painting. She prefers mild temps (75F is hot to her).

Does anyone know of areas that would work?

Sorry for blog posting but any advice would be appreciated. In return I can give advice about several US states andcertain regions of South Korea.

Where do I meet travel friends/pen pals?
I was going to go to Europe with 3 friends and my gf in June.
1 dropped out because they couldn't afford it and now my gf has broken up with me and cancelled her ticket so now one of the others who is a limp dicked cuckold doesn't want to go because he "feels bad" and thinks that going would leave a sour taste in his mouth and so my other friend sees no point in going if it's just 2 of us.
I decided fuck it; I paid for it, I planned it, I'm fucking going; fuck you all for leaving me (especially my 2 mates who'd feel bad for my now ex if they went so now they wanna cancel).

The problem is I'm a social person and I've never traveled anywhere alone. Last time I went to Europe it was 3 months with my gf. I don't really want to be a miserable loner for the month that I'm going. Does anyone know any apps/sites/ways to meet travellers or locals? I'd prefer locals who could show me around cities but beggars can't be choosers.

Which should I choose for a comfy, authentic short trip?

Cologne, Belgrade, or Bucharest?

It's almost never above 75F in Ireland. It's usually cold and raining

I just checked something randomly, and I think flixbus removed the stop I booked to get on a bus at next month and didn't plan on telling me (i can see the bus is still running on their website, just not stopping at the stop i booked)
not a question i just didn't want to make a shit thread to express what is currently generating a lot of rage in my head

update
well they have the customer service to reply to an email on a saturday evening, didn't expect that at least
but they really did just cancel the bus stopping where i had already got a ticket for without bothering to tell me or cancelling the ticket, so if i wasn't being an autist and checking shit i would have been waiting around for a bus that was never coming

Anyone know why /trv/ doesn't feel the same as it did 10 yrs ago? The board quality seems similar to /int/ these days and has so many jaded people instead of posters telling their travel stories. I genuinely loved reading a lot of posts from the past but nowadays it's just a sad mix of /pol/ and /int/ brainrot.

>higher traffic, your thread will disappear if not bumped within less than a week
>2020-2023 travel restrictions attracting /pol/-tier posters and /r9k/ larpers
>atrocious moderation being both to loose and too strict at the same time
It's really sad because I still don't know a better general purpose travel forum.

Should I get a prepaid visa card for international travel to use as a backup for if my credit card is stolen?
I've never traveled out of the country and my biggest worry is losing access to my bank accounts.
Italy from US btw

How long could I live for comfortably in a third world country - without working - with just $25,000?
