Hows Ilshana? Want to get my first 30m sister and she’s caught my eye so far
>>
>>10935629
Very good.
The white ruffles on her arms can break if you're not careful. While the top ones are meant to stay in place, the bottom ones are technically meant to be taken off and swapped onto an o-ring with a hardpoint.
>>
>>10935634
Thanks for the tip, think I’ll go with her and possibly add the reaper set since that seems made for her
>>
>>10935645
The reaper set is pretty much a standalone weapon pack and a 30MS thigh adapter for the 30MS knees and shins.
If you're grabbing the reaper set you might also wanna check out Spinatia Reaper type since it's colour matched to that weapon pack, Illshana and Neverlia.

dpends on the finish you want. You can paint them on the spures, but once youve cut the parts off you have the ugly lines.

I usally assemble them and sand the cut marks etc down then paint after a top coat or spray depending on how im painting them.

You dont have to paint them. they look decent enough built with a spray of top coat/finsher in matt or semi gloss depending on the type of kit. Experiment with something cheap like a 30ms first.
>>
>>10935744
Zero. The best bet would be a full collab md or a resin kit.

Incorrect. The BUSTER DOLLs are Block 2m and PUNIMOFU are Block 2s. Pegs and whatnot are the same but limb diameter and length are very different.

Think the difference between an old Asra and Susanowo.

>>10935852
Wrong. Lilinel and Laranel are the smallest 30ms kits. Ilshana is taller than both despite her limb diameter being the same.

>>10935787
If you want curvy your going to have to forget about the height unless you build your own with 30mm parts.

Get yourself a Luluce body, and get one of the several add on sets with Rishetta sized thighs. Pic related is how the large size thighs fit a Luluce sized body.

I learned about this to late, myself. I had bought the reaper set to customize Lirinel only to realize that the option bodies aren't the same size as hers. Do the option bodies have a similar naming convention, because they really don't seem to. Would be nice if they'd list that since you're supposed to kitbash these things anyways.

How do shipping costs to the US on Ami Ami compare vs HLJ and 1999? I hate how only HLJ has upfront shipping costs.
>>
>>10935771
You don't notice the paint being spotty around points of articulation or anything?
>>
>>10937811
Ami will calculate shipping costs if you email their support, but the items have to be in stock.
They have a formula of weight/size costs per country buried in their support page somewhere.
Ami's site is generally dated, but I like them for the pre-owned section. Their support is pretty helpful to any other inquires too.

1999 marks items as small packet that are able to be sent as a small packet solo, they also list dimensions of boxes so you can calculate whenever all of the items would fit in a small packet type parcel.
I haven't got any experience with them myself.

What's the trick to cutting out and cleaning translucent pieces?
I find it very easy to leave some nasty stress marks on them, and they're usually way tougher than any other plastic in the kits.

>Do the option bodies have a similar naming convention, because they really don't seem to.
Yes and no
I find the easiest way to distinguish compatible bodies is by looking at the tummies
Some option bodies like the swimsuit ones have their own name sets because the swimsuits are different bodies from any that comes with a kit and others do follor the body class letter like OB-02 which states it is A type and is the same body as A type Luluce Kit

>>10937680
Yeah I know I'm missing those another two, I'm usually adding an entry as I pick them up and I've been waiting for my loacl shop to get these still. Otherwise the S02 and 4 are two classed differently and labeled as so on their packaging. Obviously their the same, but it seems Bandai got too convoluted with the Option Part naming schemes.
>>
>>10937986
>Otherwise the S02 and 4 are two classed differently and labeled as so on their packaging.
Follow up

As you can see they label it as type s04 when it SHOULD be type 2 just color C or something but alas they made the call.

You can swap the entire Lirinel upper torso for the Reaper one and it will fit perfectly.
Reaper lower and Lirinel upper will be a less ideal fit. (pic related)

While the chest plates are poorly fitted for universal swapping, the body segments are usually a better fit across most torsos.

Nothing stock, but if you wanna do some kitbashing you've got the Hexa Gear Governor Type Rook's big muscle arms, with Kotobukiya's best big posable hand, or 30MM do a Large Cannon/Arm Unit which should look pretty chunky on most 30MS or the Acerbys. From there just get some big robot legs from another kit and you're most of the way there.

Closest I can think of is when Muscuto made his XL md bodies he did a run of CUT L stomachs. As far as limbs go though, no dice, although you might be able to put something together with the Megalomaria mephisto, titanomacia gale hound or the hexagear bump up expanders.

Here's Knight. She feels waaaay better than Gunner did out of box, her stand is nice and tight, and she doesn't fall in half from slight movement.

Her armor is also much more... deliberate than Gunners, yeah it has the BUSTER DOLL holes all over the place, but they don't stand out quite as bad here sabe for the shield.

She does still have the annoying problem Gunner had with her torso joint "guts" sliding down at inopportune moments, occasionally causing some problems, but she's a good bit tighter so it's not as bad.

The only thing I really wish was different is that the hands and skirt were made of polycap material. The hard plastic hands are a shame since she lacks the variety that past mds had and a soft skirt would make her much more dynamic.
>>
>>10937999
Oh thanks that's good to know, swapping the entire torso would probably work for me even if I initially just wanted to use the chest plates. I guess due to how the chest plates fit into each upper torso piece, it wouldn't be possible for them to be interchangeable. I appreciate the pic.
>>
>>10937628
Not really. The block 2 kits changed the design of the chest completely. The shoulders are now ball jointed, and the chest plates now are designed to go all the way around the bodies. There are still holes for the old plates, but they are now square, and removing the stock chest part from the kit leaves the shoulder joints exposed in a way that does not look good at all.
>>
>>10935503
Managed to grab the last PO for this on Meccha Japan. Really didn't want to order from them again since they fucked me over with my Yukumo PO (I really think they just didn't want to fulfill the order once they saw her box size) but it was my only option at this point.

I hope I will be able to grab some but probably she will be "out of stock" as soon as she arrives in Europe, just like Gunner.

>>
>>10938875
A good bit of paint would do her a lot of good.
>>
>>10935503
The chest being a separate piece looks kind of bad. It's ignorable if you're not focusing on it, but if I'm getting a loli kit one if the reasons is for the flat chest. Other than that she looks pretty good. I'll probably try to get one, just maybe from Japan to save money.

BLADE and his art style have been around a lot longer than your vtuber. From long before those were even a thing, actually, so in all likelihood you've got it backwards and your vtuber is mimicking BLADE's distinctive art style.
>>
>>10938894
Yeah I agree but obviously they’re going to reuse this body for an oppai loli which is why they do things that way

Any beginner guides on painting? I do have an airbrush but I only have used it to paint warhammer minis and I remember hearing those paints and skills do not carry over for plamo
>>
What kind of primer do you guys use for clear parts? I have a bottle of Finisher's Multi Prime but this shit is expensive to import to the US.
>>
>>10938894
I mean, it's been that way for the vast majority of girlpla releases. While I also don't like the gap you can easily just remove it with some sprue goo or a bajillion other thing.
>>10939686
Many techniques do, and many don't. Things like blending, glazing, skin techniques in general, etc don't translate well due to the larger surface area. Generally speaking, you want to watch a combination of videos on painting Gunpla and garage kits. The Gunpla videos show off things to do with armor and mechanical parts, the garage kit ones show you how to do larger organic things like skin, hair, eyes, etc. Off the top of my head you can go check out Leona's Workshop. They've got some great stuff on garage kits that'll give you a solid idea. Some nice stuff on skin, clothing effects, and the like. Very useful. No idea for Gunpla, but there's six trillion channels out there, so they take a few seconds to find.
>>10939714
You usually don't need to prime clear parts unless you're changing them to an opaque color. If you're doing that then the primer doesn't really matter- use any typical strong hobby primer. If you're merely trying to change the hue by placing another clear color over it then just spray it on raw and topcoat it afterwards.

The only time I'd say otherwise is if the clear part in question is incredibly large and flimsy, and thus prone to be slightly bent here or there when handling them. Those cases are few and far between, but you'd want a clear primer for that. I'm, unfortunately, not aware of any that are easy to come by however.

Help, I'm conflicted. I snagged the F I R S T E D I T I O N of Galahad on a whim because it looks nice, but then I realized this will be the first kit from a company that was okay putting out some pretty crappy statues in collaboration with someone else I'm unfamiliar with. Meanwhile, I've heard ATK Fenrir is pretty quality, she's got a nice chunky appeal, and I can get her for about the same price (less if Gundamit ever restocks). I don't think I want to get both for space and money reasons so I'm torn. What to do?

With mecha musume getting more popular now, do you think we might get something like Strike Witches again?
>>
>>10941700
"Something like" will mean it has to be better, or at least artistically distinct or it'll be constantly compared to Strike Witches as an inferior product or a bootleg.
(FYI I know nothing about Strike Witches)

>>10941702

Just made nuke matrix's mermaid.
Not sure why some Chinese kits put their gates on clear parts on the edges, while others under gate them. Only to have that under gated area show up since it's front and center.
Secondly what material is the hair? It was honestly really hard to "snap" it together because I had to shave excess material off... Are all the nuke matrix kits like this now?
>>
>>10941700
I mean, we've gotten like, what, 2 or 3 other Strike Witch entries these past couple of years (even if one of them was pretty mediocre/bad). Stuff like Strike Witches never stop making money. They just stopped making them because there was a strong ecchi element to it, and that's fallen out of favor with the industry for (quite literally) no good reason (aka old Japanese suits listening to a small group of retards on Twitter as if they matter). I'm sure Strike Witches will have a more traditional entry again someday and we'll get some poseable figures/kits out of it. If not, it's only a matter of time until Koto goes "huh, we can just tell Fumikane to make us some planegirl designs, can't we"?
>>

Avatar Fumina is really good. If she were a mainline 30ms she'd probably be #2 in the whole line body wise.

She is basically just Rishetta with slightly more restricted articulation, her upper torso has what is essentially an upside-down Megami device joint that causes some sculpt breaking problems because of how high its centered.

Her runners have a cutout for replacing the cat ears, so I expect a titans maid or rabbit version sooner or later.

This kit makes me want a new Ganko and a Shia so fucking bad. Imagine a Gyanko using a Gyan krieger or a Shia using the Els qant... hell, remakes of super Fumina, star winning Fumina and hyper Gyanko would be amazing too...

Her manual is legit better than the metaverse anime was.
>>

I'd kill for a brand new Gyanko and her Domko variant. It'd never happen but if they did a Zudahko I'd be the happiest man alive.

I'm starting to think my hobby blade is dull. How often do you replace it?
I was reading this cute SST brochure that came with my SST purchase, and they suggested to use blades to clean nubs for hair parts whilst not applying too much pressure. But when I use my blade I have to apply a lot of pressure to clean the gate, otherwise it leaves stress marks or can't cut through the nub.
>>
>>10943099
Blades get dull very quickly - it's why they sell replacement blades in bulk. If you have your own whetstone, you can prolong the lifespan, but generally I change mine out every few weeks; these things are literal scalpels, so if you have to apply pressure at all to make your blade cut, then it's already dull and time to change it.
>when I use my blade I have to apply a lot of pressure to clean the gate
You're not using your actual blade to remove bits from the runners, are you? Use nippers (or nail clippers, if you're cheap) for that, and only use the blade for removing the leftover nubs after the fact. Otherwise you'll be burning through blades much, much faster than you should be.
>>
>>10943099
>How often do you replace it?
If you ever find yourself asking whether or not you need a new blade, the answer is yes. They're cheap enough anyway. I can normally get through like two MDs, 3/4 of one of those huge Chinese kits or 4 HGs on one blade if there aren't a ton of clear parts. The entire length isn't "dull" at that point, but I'm not about to quibble over disposable blades.

Lots and lots of seam filling required, like on all the Hunters Poem kits, and Arya's faceplates are a bit pic related — which is why she's only ever going to wear this helmet head.

The bike also had a monstrously long, ugly and sharp tail; and the yellow 'mirror' pieces on the handlebars are basically held on with happy thoughts despite the application of cement.

I actually kind of like how it turned out, but yeah: not recommended.

Howdy folks, I'm starting to plan a custom using primarily 30ms and 30mm bits and any compatible bits.

I want to get as close to this with as little scratchbuilding as possible.

Anyone have any suggestions for which kits to look at and for what parts? Things like which hair bits, torso suggestions, arms etc, the whole shebang

I understand the kit version will need to have some pretty major changes from the art, considering the art is wholly from my imagination.
>>

>>
>>10943976
Then your in the wrong general.

You almost certainly want to track down a polynian to use as the base, then some milliput two part epoxy to fill out the base details you want. Check out Rosa, one of the swimsuit figures, or Lana for a blank body.

Now go back to deviant art.
>>
>>10943976
100% start with a Polynian figure as a base. That'll get you a lot of the way there already whereas using a Girlpla as a base is going to require extensive remodeling just to get a body base even remotely similar.
>>
>>10943162
>>10943258
I have not replaced it for 6 months? I think my last replacement was when I chipped it.
I left a sticky note to replace it next time I work on a girlpla. I don't tend to use a knife when working on gunpla
>>
my Amaterasu kit has arrived but i'm afraid to build her... what if i fuck up and mess up one of the parts?
>>
>>10944538
She’s fairly easy. Just go steady on her feet / ankles and make sure you get legs the right way around.
>>
>>10944538
These kits are generally pretty easy regardless of size. It's all about two things- taking your time so you don't snap shit in wrong and break them, and test fitting joints to make sure they're not so tight that they're prone to snapping. Do both of these things and all your girls will turn out just fine.
>>
>>10943976
What are you doing outside of /i/
>>
>>10944660
not him, but how tight is too tight?
>>
>>10944832
not him either, but possibly something along the lines of "strong enough to hold whatever you want her to hold, but not strong to the point where you have to use force to move the joint"
Or in other words -- Fit the joints before you fully mount the joint pieces. I.e. bicep and HALF of the forearm and move it to get a feel.
Be wary that plastic will "warm up" as you're building and moving it, so it might move easily at first, and then lock up after you place her on display.

Remember that it's better to sand them twice, than sand too much once.
>>
>>10943162
I've never had a hobby knife that cut without pressure, no matter how fresh the blade. Weird shit
>>
>>10944538
>what if i fuck up and mess up one of the parts?
you probably will, even the best builders here are left with some imperfections when they're done. Beginners especially will make plenty of small errors. The best thing you can do is start on cheap kits that you still like to build experience and practice with good tools.
>>
>>10944661
Trying to get advice for making a custom. To no avail I guess haha.

I don't want to invest in a polynian, I'll just figure it out on my own I guess.
>>
>>10945175
Real talk. You will spend more on 30ms kits trying to piece your custom together than just buying a Lana.

If your that desperate, bootlegs are readily available on aliexpress, and you don't have to worry about fucking up a 40 dollar figure.
>>
>>10945206
I can understand that, but I'm already buying heavily into the 30m lines.

Not to mention I was under the impression that poly's were made of like a softer pvc or other material and I'm not into that, especially not for custom work.
>>
>>10945244
It's not such soft pace that it can't be modified or worked on.

>>10945206

>>
>>10944832
>>10944852
Second anon there is right. It is, unfortunately, kind of a "feel" thing, but it's something you pick up on pretty damn quick. As he said, a part generally only needs enough strength to hold itself and whatever is connected to it up against gravity. If it can do that then it's tight enough. If you, a being infinitely larger than the model kit, feel like you have to apply noticeable force to move a teeny tiny joint, then it's too tight. Lightly sand the peg/ball in question, plug it back in, and see if that improved the feel. Repeat as necessary. There's scant few times any moving parts should resist you particularly hard, and you usually don't find those scenarios in girlpla since they're so thin and dainty. Usually only see joints that need to hold crazy weight like that in super large Gunpla or something.

Newfag here, pic related got me interested, but I don't have any experience with plamax and I want to know any tips if possible, thanks in advance
>>
>>10947802
Plamax has been very miss miss. The guilty princess stuff released so far is not amazing just ok, and the miku they did is an abomination. That said, a lot of the info we've seen about the Sophia is very promising, and plamatea is just on the horizon, so anything can happen.
>>
>>10947802
Plamax are to characters as Moderoids are to robots. Stiff joints abound but they aren't complicated. Someone on /m/ called Moderoids akin to Bandai's SMPs, but I've never built an SMP so take that as you will.
>>
>>10947802
Plamax is very case-by-case in my experience. Stuff like the Godz Order kits are solid but a lot of other Plamax stuff is fixed pose display pieces or completely uncolored. So always look around to see what to expect from each individual release from it.

>>10947844
>Moderoids akin to SMPs
That anon on /m/ sounds like a retard then. Moderoids aren't nearly as sticker hell for starters (of the 11 Moderoids I've built myself only 2 had stickers at all & both of those were Molcars), but they're also generally more in line with HG scale for the smaller stuff like Patlabor labors with stuff like Giant Robo & Big O being a fair bit larger. SMPs tend to be on the small side.

I would say Moderoids are more like a middle ground between Bandai & Kotobukiya. More focus on collectors rather than children, lots of attention to gimmicks and show accuracy, occasionally pre-painted parts & waterslides included.
>>

Siren is fantastic. Not her legs though, those will never be attached which also means no shark friend for her unless I but another kit. Oh well.
>>
>>10948004
Nuke Matrix Kits are amazing. Great quality, and some really nice technical tricks with the limbs to aid in articulation. I've built Lirly Bell and Vivienne Striker kits so far in their normal line and 5 Vivienne Hayna beach version with 3 left in the back log. Definitely my favorite girlpla kits to build and I wish there were more.

>i may even go as far as to say they appear better than some megami devices or on par with arcanadea...
are you talking about visual design or actual engineering: parts fitting together properly without big seam lines, joints working well, etc

The maidroid kits are the upper end of non godz-order plamax. Unfortunately they are still plamax and have a love of falling apart when poseing, and the color separation is somehow very bad despite the relatively simple designs.

Pic related. There is zero color on her upper backplate, it's all one black piece. The green on the front part of the chest is also missing in your pic, meaning it's a hard shift from one color to the other where there should be.
>>
>>10948063
Amazing is a very strong word. Vivienne's armored ankles are an abomination, Lirly's hair is literally a puffy copy of koto's Gene model, and the lower torso on Amelia, Tanya and by extension Carolina is the epitome of mid. This is not counting all the strange gate placements, thin or flimsy joint structures and other strange design choices.

I own all the nuke matrix girls, I really love my Lirly, but I'm not going to trick myself into thinking they are better than they actually are.
>>
>>10948004
Tanya is ok, and Yefuna is alright. Both have odd articulation choices in the monster body parts, with Tanya's tail being the winner between the two. Yefuna has some weird joint angles going on with her main legs that keeps them from getting a full forward leg raise, and her weapon makes her really unstable.

Go for Lirly.

Just saying since i bought only 2 moderoids so far but jesus christ muramasa is decal hell due to the gradients. I didnt touch my shin getter yet but im sure it wont be as bad as muramasa.
>>
>>10947892
>Moderoids aren't nearly as sticker hell for starters
It all depends on the kit itself, I can tell you from experience that Dynazenon/Rogue Kaiser Gridman has a ton of stickers, as does El Dora V. It's mostly combiners with lots of colours and separate combining or proportion parts that'll have tons of stickers, and SMP are big fans of doing combiners, so they end up with a ton of stickers despite a fair chunk of pre-painted parts.

Overall, obviously not as good as the RG GaoGaiGar; but comparing a really fun kit against literal perfection isn't fair.
Would recommend.

For painting skin, can I get away with sponging on weathering powder or airbrushing on gaianotes clear straight onto the plastic?

Clear what? Clear orange/pink/red for highlights? If so, yeah. That's what you'd typically do. Some people will also sponge on appropriately colored powders for a similar affect, aye.

What kind of glue can I add to a peg to make it "thicker" OOTB the joint was loose and just slipped right off.

Superglue (CA), just put a tiny drop on and let it dry. File it back down if it's too thick.
>>

Yes, painted and glued together the maidroids are good.

>>10948498
That's not unpainted. She does come with more painted parts than past kits, but the image definitely has the gold painted, the waterslides applied, lining, and a topcoat. As for cross compatability, don't expect much, but we don't know.

to be completely fair, the weird dent is a concession to not using pull-out-sideways hip tech like iris or newer megami device stuff while still wanting her to be able to sit. it's probably related to trying to stabilize centaur mode, somehow. not gonna say it doesn't look weird, but it does seem to have a reason behind it.

Why do we like these little plastic girls so much? Is this some sort of sublimation or autism?
>>
>>10948433
She's looking good - I'm more excited for her than l am for Ermeda.
>>
>>10948407
if your skill as a plastic modeler is good then you can make any kit look good. just look at the tank/train/plane autists making great models out of terrible quality kits cast from 40+ year old molds. likewise lack of color separation doesn't stop you from painting any way you want it just means more work to do so.
the quality of the original kit only affects how much fixup work you have to do to reach your end goal (and perhaps how fucky the joints are), not what is possible.

It's a garden because it only allows female characters under that title.
In Megalomaria there are male characters.

Fairly new to the hobby, can i get any advice on how to pose figures? All my poses are stiff as fuck and i'm not really sure why
>>
>>10950613
someone will post the infographic shortly but while you wait; have you been posing from imagination or were you using references?
>>
>>10950615
Mostly imagination, i looked up some photos online to see what other people have done with the same figure and tried to copy their poses
>>
>>10950617
start with shoulder and hip angles/positions, these influence the pose the most
try to copy poses from pictures of real people
a sassy hand on hip standing position is a good starting practice
>>
>>10950617
Best first step I find is getting a good arched back, everything looks better after that.
>>
>>10950613
Try to make all the different parts flow together. A punch for example doesn't just involve the arm, the motion carries all the way down to the legs. Turn the shoulders, tilt the hips, bend the spine.
If that flow of motion gets interrupted, you end up with a stiff looking pose.

Hmm... Must make sense considering why some girls around Japan are being given Frame Arms Girls to test and play with... Hope it doesn't devolve into something post-apocalyptic or grimdark.

Pic related, but how do you make Trigun's Punisher with this Combat Cell and Grave Arms (like the one included with the Megami Device Bullet Knights Widow)? You could give any Machineca girl the coolest weapon ever from that manga.
