In what was arguably a golden age of new and creative science fiction and fantasy (lotr, star wars, battlestar galactica, stargate and more were all huge then) you were devoting all your creative energies shilling for a company that hasn't made a good game since warhammer quest way back in the 90s. For free. That's fucking pathetic.

Peter Jackson LotR was 2001-03, and the various off-shoot vidya were also very popular. Star Wars prequels were 1999-2005, and the various off-shoot vidya were also very popular. Battlestar Galactica was 04-09. SG-1 ran through to 07, plus various spin-offs. You can pick apart the 'new and creative' aspect but claiming they weren't relevant is provably retarded in a matter of seconds.

I wasn’t even active on the internet back then. I wasn’t present for any of this and I don’t even like Warhammer overmuch and I don’t miss where I was at at that age. But this still hurts.

It doesn’t matter if you’re in your 40’s, 30’s or 20’s, something about the late 2000’s/early 2010’s felt like the last time any of this was real. After that we split off into a bad timeline. Was it genuinely just the financial crash, did it make everyone miserable and angry?

>>
>>92703196
A guy who's perpetually mad at /tg/'s mascots and has been trying to force a meme where whenever he sees them, he angrily shitposts at them. The grand joke is he posts "Work on your art" like he thinks the person who posted the image is the artist, and he posts this regardless of who the artist of the image was, since there's been several dozen artists who have drawn those characters.

He started doing this back in 2016, back when Ribbon ended up getting voted into the /tg/ banner. He's literally been mad for eight years now, and probably will be mad forever.

And, I'm not just talking about original characters; our drawthread is basically dead and our write thread has been even deader for years. Maybe not you personally, but definitely your prevaling shitty attitude and your psychotic energy towards trying to knock things down just because you're the human equivalent of cancer. We definitely need less people like you, and it's sad that you still think your angry efforts are justifiable in any capacity. People like you have killed this board.

>I have to spin a complete lie to try and justify my eternal outrage

>people
Is this where you start samefagging to pretend anyone else in the entire world would be mad about characters from the golden age of /tg/ popping up in threads on /tg/?

If you don't like them, ignore them. Don't make it your life's mission to try and get rid of them, because, funnily enough, here we are, still seeing them appear, when just about every other OC has withered away like the board itself has. If anything, we've learned that these characters might end up outliving the board itself at this rate.

Seriously though. 8 years. Time for you to grow up, because even if you started your shitposting crusade as a 10 year old you should be an adult by now. What the board needs is a more hospitable attitude towards original content of all kinds, and you being perpetually mad at a character just because she's in the /tg/ banner and people call her the /tg/ mascot is not helping.

In the late 2000’s/early 2010’s Games Workshop was sending dmcas to board game geek and getting fan content for out of print games that they weren't making a single cent on taken down. There was also the whole chapterhouse fiasco. Games workslop was as shitty then as it is now. And you fags did nothing but give them your money.

Lots of memes come from places other than 4chan, and not many people buy stuff just because of shitty memes

>1d4chan sucks. A page on a based game like Arkham Horror 2E is like 2 paragraphs whilst every tiny thing in hecking warhammer gets an entire novel. Personally I don't miss it
Maybe it is because Arkham Horror doesn't get discussed much on /tg/

Your main problem seems to be you think posting on a low traffic message board will change anything. You are basically the equivalent of the guy who thinks his football team lost because he wasn't watching that night

Also most people on here are nogames who don't buy shit anyways, making this board even less relevant to corporations than its low user count suggests

40 here and I think 2008 was like the last breath before the plunge. iPhones turned normies into NPCs and reduced even intelligent people to the attention span of a 90's normie. Big Bang Theory make normoids want to invade geek spaces. The Great Recession stole hope from a whole generation.

The lack of streaming in the 90's and most of the 00's made staying home boring so getting people to come out or try new things was way easier(I'll concede that aging is a factor in this). I mean, maybe watching Firefly and playing Call of Cthulhu wasn't your top pick of activities, but you still fucking went because you wanted to see your friends and the next week they'd watch Slayers and try Shadowrun like you wanted.

I'm hardly Mr Charisma but I made friends every time I went to an anime convention or party. I remember just introducing myself and talking shop about someone's band shirt or a poster on their dorm door and I'd have a new friend or girlfriend. Now everyone's going around with their shields up all the time and finding dates through these demonic apps that are 100% looks based.

This was a bunch of young teenager tier fanfic written by teenagers and college cringelords for an audience of preteens and young teenagers. It was all very low tier writing and concepts you could find tens of thousands of on sites like fanfiction.net. You thought it was good because you were a shit taste preteen/young teen at the time that probably hadn't read anything beyond YAshit and automatically liked anything revolving around PRODUCT YOU KNOW. None of it is good and didn't hold up then and sure as fuck doesn't now. That's why nothing ever came of any of it, why there is no author that bounced off it's success into stardom like Meyer did when she was writing her Harry Potter but vampire fapfic, and why all this dreck is secluded in a dead website that doesn't even get visitors anymore and hasn't had any content added to it since 2013 whose owner cared so little about it he regularly let it go down.

Why would anyone do it for free in this day and age when even being a middling drawfag can make you a six figure income on Patreon? People back then uploaded OC content because nobody had figured out how to monetize talent on the internet yet. As soon they started to in 2011 the OC content dropped off a cliff because people would rather risk nobody seeing their work or making thousands off it vs 20 people seeing their work and making 0 off it. Stop nostalgiafagging. Things weren't better, people just didn't know better.

There's a lack of artists on /tg/ because the community has gotten more autistic, more competitive, and generally less fun. It's rare to meet a gamer who is also an artist these days - but we always had one in every TTRPG group I was in circa that 00's. People like Miko would be horrified by nu-/tg/ if they poked their head in here.

To me that's the great irony of this era of gaming. Better games than ever but anyone remotely desirable to game with is too busy to play. Amazing plastic miniatures but everyone's copying cheesy lists from the web so actually playing leaves the tastes of ashes in your mouth. Amazing new systems like Alien and Forbidden Lands but good luck getting people off that 5E teat.

>>92707887

I do feel like a lot of 00's shows were able to set up a cool mystery but when they eventually had to explain things it just seemed dumb. BSG, Lost, et al.

Sure, you had subcultures and fandoms and all that, but like… what is the West’s equivalent of Seinen? What’s the media aimed at young men about being young men? What identity could they build? Video games were the only ‘seinen’ you had, the only thing specifically made for them to build an identity around. And it even got to be maligned for a while so they got to develop a persecution complex.
>>
>>92706696
This makes sense. Thank you for the explanation.
>>
>>92710197
Playing games what every young man did (and do), I could talk about games with other people my age. It was in the background. But nobody identified themselves as gamers. I only heard media calling people gamers, and advertizers. Then later I heard some people calling themselves as gamers.

That is the question, and a pretty hard one. But, if we're ever going to find an answer, it's probably going to have to start with somehow tackling the issue of the individuals who seem to want nothing but to kill this board.

/btg/ is the perfect example of how this board has been going to shit. It used to be a good general with it's own culture, quite a few namefags who produced content, and running themes like the actresses and pornstars as mechwarriors thing. Then in came /pol/shitters who decided they needed to shit up the place. They mass reported discussions and namefags to kill discussions and drive out old anons while claiming they were the ones being persecuted. When old /btg/ is brought up the shitters claim it was never like that even if you link to the archives. Anons will claim it was never /pol/ doing it even when they are driving discussion purely to /pol/ shit like arguing about trannies because /pol/ isn't here and if it was here it would be lefty /pol/ which why it is so important to keep discussing the current culture war.

I was here when that guy was spamming his comics to force his characters to be a meme and it was fucking annoying, they were never once funny or clever.

Add to that that the characters have lame designs and stupid names and there was just nothing redeeming about them at all. Thankfully one day Ribbonfag stopped or left or died and all was well, but it's annoying to see them brought up now and again as supposed emblems of when /tg/ was good.

Go to bed, woyafag. No one cares about your revisionist imagination. There really is no limit to how much you're willing to lie, samefag, and otherwise try and justify your personal obsession. It's to the point where you don't even deserve the benefit that you're not the woyafag, seeing how shamelessly the woyafag acts.

Their redeeming quality is they're cute. You may not think so, but plenty of people do, and that's what makes you so mad.
I hate to be the one to tell you this, but it's not your board. It doesn't belong to you. You don't get to decide who are or are not the mascots or even if there are mascots. All you get to do is decide whether or not to be a dumb cunt who is still mad about two girls who play traditional games from comics from years ago, and wow, here you are, being exactly that. How about you instead try and create something? Make your own mascot, and see how far it goes if you're so mad Ribbon. And, if you don't want to, don't try to crush other people's fun just because you're the poster child of all the worst things in all the worst people on /tg/.

Really, there's no better mascot for dumb cunts on this board than you. You spam, samefag, troll, and your sole motivation is hating OC. Fucking hell, no wonder you hate Ribbon, you're basically a nega-mascot.

>>
It's not like this place never produced good OC. Take the cultist-chan the OP likes so much - strong design, often funny, genuinely belongs to the board instead of being one guy's pet character.
>>
>>92722393
>i hate the characters that means only one guy likes them!
Fuck off. It's not even just art from one artist, yet your whole song and dance has been to try and pretend that even what little popularity she's had was non existent. Must have been a real shock when Ribbon got voted into the /tg/ banner, and it's no surprise that's when you got mindbroken and started spamming "work on your art" at every picture of the character, regardless of what artist drew the picture.
You're really just a piece of shit.
>>
>>92723314
>that's why you need to cast as much shade as you can.
The best part is that he wants to complain about other people spamming, when all he's ever done is spam shitposts. I actually think that might be part of the reason Ribbon and friends have endured here for so long. They're not just symbols of the good times of /tg/, but of spiting the worst kind of retards who've done their best to ruin this board. If every picture of those girls hurts this retard like he's getting stabbed in the heart, that's great, he deserves it and it's ultimately self-inflicted.
>>
There's nothing like a classic 4chan argument where both sides insist everyone disagreeing with them is one guy.
>>
>>92723787
Maybe one of them should've been named "Skub".
>>
>>92723849
Maybe there being any controversy at all is a failure on the board's part, and harboring the kind of troll that thinks it can get what it wants by aggressively complaining about something is a mistake.

It even goes back to quests, where a few trolls militantly complained and were constantly making threads just to try and get rid of quests. When /qst/ was made, those trolls saw it as a personal victory, and were quick to try and repeat the process with other things. That kind of mindset is possibly the worst thing that can happen to a board, where it becomes a weird game of "see if I can get rid of everything I don't like" for the most cancerous kind of trolls.

actually it was the terminally online who enjoyed irony the most, which opened the gate for people who aren't ironic at all. caring a lot about race politics, gender politics or morality is normie pilled.

og 4chan was chaotic, horny, ironic and obsessed with anime. its politics boiled down to piracy is based and stop the feds ruining the internet.

my schizo belief is that the influx of election fags was intentionally done by the CIA because 4chan was unironically the heart and soul of the free internet movement and set the same tone dems/repubs became obsessed with passing laws that removed all freedom of information and reinforced intellectual property rights. by heavily discrediting 4chan (look at the MASSIVE wave of media coverage of 4chan as being radical at the exact same time).

4chan is now 100% associated with /pol/ nazi behavior and coincidentally the US successfully pushed all the fascist internet control reform that was being defeated the decade between 2008-2016

You're correct in your first assertions, but you are a fucking retard for thinking that what would today be categorized as "fascists" didn't always saturate the site, or that there's any actual third-positionists that would support the kind of control reforms you kvetch about. 4chan was a place where anarchists and libertarians and third-positionists could actually come together under the banner of freedom and shitposting, and you're essentially acting like one of those very same election tourists that you try to pin this on.

The fact of the matter is that the astroturfing and the false-flagging by intelligence agencies started all the way back during Project Chanology and Occupy Wall Street, but didn't explode until 2016 following the successful memeing of Trump into office. The fact that 4chan did this caused the influx and co-opting of the site, not the other way around, you clown.
>>

The more time passes the more the Dead Internet Theory seems correct. It's not completely empty but actual discussion is mostly automated to keep people cocooned in layers of meaningless interactions with empty clockwork.

The alternative is the people have over the last 20 years trained themselves to be NPCs who all think along predictable and safe paths.

Dead Internet Theory is the happier of the two possibilities.
>>
>>92743871
It's actually the latter because automating the pavlovian dopamine algorithms is easier than automating convincingly meaningless conversation to keep people distracted with. Just look at how much damage simply adding a little (you) marker did to the entirety of 4chan, and I highly doubt that was implemented with the same sort of malice or desire for control that you see on mainstream social media algorithms.
>>
>>92743871
I sometimes hate the casual characterisation of people as 'predictable NPCs' because it's, itself, an easy cliche. but in my experience as a zoomer, it *always* takes focus and effort to cultivate and coordinate a good discussion, and all you have to do to stunt that in a fairly self-reinforcing way is offer an easier alternative
>>
>>92734967
Wether it was done because of a psyop or not, election era was when everyone on this site "stopped caring about" and discussing internet freedom.

2010-2015 the media reports on 4chan not as political extremists but as wild cards. they report on events like 4chan tracking down someone who hurt a puppy or releasing videos like "how to charge your ipod in a microwave". 4chan was completely associated with anonymous and piracy.

2015 and forward all media coverage is of 4chan as the nazi site. my normie friends all talk about it as the nazi site. and its at the exact same time we had a string of landmark defeats in favor of internet control.
>>
>>92734375
