Thought this was awesome https://twitter.com/Cermrnl/status/1137722958577713152Anyone tried doing paper puppets like this? Where would one get started designing something like this?
Never seen an origami puppet before. Looks difficult
>>574188Very cool! I wonder if you could make a mouth in a similar way, then you could add some arms and you have an entire paper presenter.
What gets me is that this almost looks animated. The printing and cutting is so well done it's jarring.>>574192I've seen a few in a top shop before. They can be really well constructed like this, but beyond they're often very Noddyish and only made to only appeal to small children. So things like this remind me that there is creative freedom beyond that. Probably are difficult to make though.>>574197That would sure be sophisticated, some skill to operate too. Though eyes alone communicate a vast amount visually, which is why this puppet is so effective - could be just that simple.
Made something very crude, but this is the way...useful linkshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NiU6l1u8dchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyKUw2FJJr4
>>574349Fantastic effort! Ya actually got far enough to figure out the puppet engineering, which is pretty good alone. I have pics myself I want to share, I actually acquired a similar model to this from the creator, and I'm going to assemble it soon. Will post them when I can.
>>574376Who's the creator?
you can buy the schematic for one https://www.cermrnl.com/product-page/nurse-01-ver-4
Very cute, cool find!
>>574349>>574376>>574379Alright this was the pic I was going to share. Cute isn't it? A similar model from the author.>Who's the creator?I think they go by the name 'wasu'? They own the twitter account. The model of pic related as it happens, can be acquired through link this anon shared >>574395All I've done so far was cut out and prepare the fundamental paper components, that was dead simple. The mechanical bits however I will leaving for another day; having skimmed from the instructions for it I think it'll require a fair bit more careful and concerted effort. What continues to be a mystery, and this still isn't clear because this doesn't seem to be a feature of publicly available model, is how she winks...
>>574407Just bought the green one, will post results here, you got any recommendations for aluminum wire on amazon?
>>574412Aluminium wires... I haven't assessed the feasibility of doing this yet, but maybe uncoiling and reshaping few paperclips might be enough? Otherwise I'd consider salvaging them from somewhere else before outright buying a roll of it.
>>574419Paper clips aint gonna cut it for those dimensions
>>574433Ah >_>Okay. 1mm gauge roll of aluminium should do then. Whatever is cheapest for you as far as total price is concerned, it's only important that the gauge is correct cause the 1.5mm slot will be tight to work in.
Nice, please share instruction to make
>>574412Please share the diagram, scan it?Any instruction come with it?If buy from the author, how long it take to ship and reach you. Worth the price?
Going to make this!!!!Notice the leg is not moving, is it fixed to the desk??
>>575251I commissioned them for one. The feet are mounted by a metal paperclip, and is taped to the table surface to stand on
>>574188Without the big Ear will be much nicer, Big ear to cover the hand?
>>574188im finna nut nigga oowee look at dis bitch damn she fine as fuck
Can someone upload the manual please?
>>575398 this i want to make my nieces cute anime cat girls, and uncomfortably drink with my aunts, when they question me how i know this pls ty
>>575398any manual or make instruction?
>>574188I want to fuck that piece of paper
>>575459you're asking for a papercut
>>575103I just bought one of these today after seeing a tweet of one of them. The distribution is digital, so you get the instructions instantly. You will need to print the actual thing onto cardboard yourself though.
>>575398I would upload my copy but I would feel kinda bad about it. dont you have 15 bucks? the only reason I would upload it is if theres a new version of the schematic or the artist took down the site.
>>576244https://www.cermrnl.com/product-page/chiyuthe price is $ 23.55 USD. It is expensive. If you can only share the user manual will be fine.
POST THE FUCKING INSTRUCTIONS WE ARE IN 4CHAN GODDAMNIT, WHAT HAPPENED
>>576360You are very rude !!
>>575398I would upload my copy but I would feel kinda bad about it. dont you have 15 bucks? the only reason I would upload it is if theres a new version of the schematic or the artist took down the site.>>576271 >>576360the problem is that the instructions have the layout
Finally got round to getting some wire! Will continue where I left of eventually... it's actually silver coater wire for jewellery making so I think I overpaid XD but it's 1mm and bendy/strong so should do the trick.
chiyu v4: my.namejeff.com/SNFnn62f.zip
>>576360you've mistaken /po/ for /b/. Here at /po/ we like to support our artists. It's not that hard to navigate the shop. The instructions are in English and very easy to follow.Make sure you preview what the puppet does before purchase:https://www.cermrnl.com/gallery-1
>>576376Yer link borkenhttps://my.namejeff.com/NTKgHK5m.rar
>>576376Page not foundPlease upload again. Thanks!
I really want the chiyu V4 one, and the link didnt work so does anyone have it that can share it?
https://www.cermrnl.com/product-page/telu-ver-4How are they out of stock? If so I am gonna have to start uploading mine for archival purposes. Can anyone confirm why they are sold out?
>>577761Is... is this our fault?
>>577765even if it is, it's very hard to want to support artists if they decide to stop taking people's money because someone uploaded their stuff
>>577800>Lets punish people buy not letting people buy it from us and instead leave them with the only option to download it for free instead
>>577807Japanese in particular seem to be prone to thos mentality
>>577836Please upload any model pattern you have, since the author not going to sell them anytime soon
Step one: Get the template.Step two: Pay someone on fiverr to modify the template into any character you want.Step three: Share and share alike.
>>577868will try this, will post results in some days
>>577868>Pay someone on fiverr to modify the templateFucking >>>/diy/ you lazy faggot

>>578329>>578344Here you go.https://www.cermrnl.com/gallery-1
>>578345Awesome, thank you... there's so many other videos too, woah, so that's a nice surprise.
this is so cute, oh my gawsh
I did some modifications for aesthetic purposes
>>578422Alas, someone here finally got round to creating it, well done! Especially with going the extra mile with those additions, really like it. Did you just modify the textures in the instructions before printing, or did you physically paste over those textures?
>>578432No, i just edited the fileI reckon we can just brute force every design with a bit of photoshop work
>>578422You gotta link the files bro, since they are modified that should not be a problem
>>578514>https://my.namejeff.com/NTKgHK5m.zipyou can still use this and do some modifications yourself.
>>578422can you make it move?
I really like the puppet's design; I don't usually see kinetic /po/ with this level of flexibility. Support these artists, this kind of work probably doesn't pay well.
>>574188>making me want to fuck a piece of papergod damn it
>>579776the papercuts aren't worth it anon
just finished mine took me two days to get it all done it was a bit of a pain but worth i kinda went a bit all out but it was worth it

>>579805Then you are weak
>>579889>>579890Absolutely lovely, well done. Are all the mechanical bits are in and working?

Does anyone have a picture of the back or the sides? I want to lean about the mechanics but can’t buy one yet
>>583824get it from here and build ithttps://my.namejeff.com/NTKgHK5m.zip

>>574188I remember seeing this artist paper puppets long time ago on twitter, I really like them :) they are so cute
Im gonna try to do one, they look nice, maybe I wil try to do some editing and do my own designs to
https://my.namejeff.com/NTKgHK5m.zipI edited the template, and this is what it will look like when I finish it!
>>584560Good job paper-pal it looks good.Post a pic of it finished if you manage
Can somebody post the Chiyu V4 one?
>>585163the link still works, just rename .rar to .zip on the second link to it in the threadi'm surprised that none of the other ones have been posted here outside of that one that I bought and uploaded myself all that way back...Speaking of which, I never can seem to find the right balance between wire strength/weight and paper thickness, so my versions of it are incredibly fragile or too stiff.
>>586018Yeah, the docs tell which paper is the best, but it's specific JP-only brands and it's hard to import in my country due to rona lockdowns
>>576376Thanks to you, i have recreated others with the same mechanism
>>575460a small price to pay
Anyone does have a modified version of Kuma ver.01? I'm looking forward to learning about how to make the rest of the body joints :b
>>574349looks pretty cool
>>586282Can't wait to see how it looks like
>>574188Furry girl thread up for nearly 600 days, excellent
Can anyone post the instructions please
>>576376Heh, i decided to try and change various letters and numbers in case if anon was typing it manually and or on a phone and made a mistake. After few tests finally got the archive. Change f with F. Quite useful for reverse engineering, because unlike >>576410It got more complex limbs and more moving parts, catgirl herself is cute and this model is "out of stock" on the site
And as extra to the previous post (again, the proper Chiyu v4 link is https://my.namejeff.com/SNFnn62F.zip and it still works), while searching for more lost models and templates online I stumbled across this: https://twitter.com/mikuexpo/status/1126794910986788866A Wasu's paper doll that was made for Miku expo of 2019 (along with a lot of cute artworks of all vocaloids for merch, cute stuff), was sold only there, physically and never reappeared in shops. The only images of this model online are those in tweet, one photo from someone's report about the event and one drawing depicting how finished girl would look:https://twitter.com/mikuexpo/status/1111501315098578944So of course I had to preserve it. Had to ask for help in recreating but the end result looks quite cute
I couldn't exactly figure out the mechanism, as in body wiring is clearly the same as for other already posted here girls, intended to move both body and head separately, but the hand is seemingly on it's own (and no, judging by that other photo from report that's all the bodyparts of her. No extra paper parts, only wires). Tried various wire placements to make it work with one hand, gave up and moved it away to be moved with second hand. Sorry for jarring movements, I had too thick wire on hands for body. If someone will manage to make mechanism better, be my guest and sharehttps://files.catbox.moe/2u6lu6.png - Template made based on a photohttps://files.catbox.moe/elfclz.png - Recreation by a friend with colors of the drawingWould love to see it in their shop so more people could have the authentic model but alas, seems like it never appeared there and never willP.S. that Miku is designed to be printed on A5 paper if you want her be same size as others, although the report photo had A4 sized sheet in it, probably to make it easier for guests to cut her out
https://my.namejeff.com/SNFnn62F.zipgives me "server not found"Can anybody reupload to another site?
>>590579Huh, seems like whole site is down. Let's hope that temporarily. I've reuploaded it:https://files.catbox.moe/r1lkmy.zip (Chiyu v4)And that one >>576410 toohttps://files.catbox.moe/zhcir2.zip (which is Telu, old version)
Does anyone know how to move the other limbs, different from the already shown patterns? I'm not interested in their patterns but I'd really appreciate if someone can help me figure it out how it works, cuz I want to do it in my style and put the patterns free for use xD. I saw they make a wire based movement but I don't have any idea of how to apply this to different joints
>>590650moving paper armatures in general is honestly rather limited compared to other types of armatures. The most you can do is move a few pieces around some pivot points. Do you have any specific motions / examples you want to figure out?
Files seem to not be found. Error 404
oof links are dead.little bump for this thread, i like it so much
Can someone reupload?
>>594023Thanks anon! I don't have much to post in return
>>594092Hey nice, we finally got a scan of this. I wasted many hours failing to recreate it from the instructional video a few years back.
I was looking for this thanks a lot everyone, i just want to ask what paper i should use because im a mechanic with brutish ogre hamds and im very afraid i might crush the paper by accident
>>590577good job anon! this is really cute! u did well :3
>>594023>ChiyuThanks a lot! Any chance someone is willing to reupload Chiyu as well?
>>591845Idk if ur still here. But I wanted to know how they make each eye wink individually
>>598024I havent bought one of those types, but from the one I have that blinks with both, I believe that the difference is that the eyelid layer (basically a semcircle) is split in two and has two different handles on the back
>>594023man, god bless you, this looks cool to try
Author stopped selling patterns because one of them was shared. I'll never get this "One file was shared, so i'll stop selling all files, so people who wanted to buy them cannot do this anymore" mentality...
>>577757Hi man! Which ones do you have?
>>590585It seems they have been taken down as well, although the Telu from >>594023 is still working, so the only still missing is Chiyu v4
>>599400This. I was ready to shell out some fucking money for these things only to learn he wasn't selling. What's the fucking point.>>577757I can confirm.
>>586834goddammit I though the mouth was a double chin and the nose the mouth
>>574188This artist made a Claire puppet, but this is the only thing i have left of it, since they deleted the tweet. Can anyone help me find the original if possible?
Telu v4 is on the wayback machine but it never snagged the other link, anyone still have Chiyu v4?http://web.archive.org/web/20201129221819/https://my.namejeff.com/NTKgHK5m.zipI think it'd be neat to do something like these but hooked up to motors/servos to drive them as part of a diorama or clock thing.

>>602737Is he trying to monetize them some other way?I'm sure it does suck for art sellers when people pirate their art, but if they stop selling as a result it just means they go from some small % lost sales to 100% lost sales. I don't get the logic, unless it's a purely emotional "well fine, then no one gets to have them" sort of decision.
>>602780Nah..theyre just want them to suck their dicks is all..lol
>>602737>>602780>>602798When criminals are in control the good creators get ruined.I ran a pressure washing service for 4 years.Downfall started with bad checks, then half of those customers demanded I come back to scrub down their storefronts again. Um hey, douchebag, pay the overdue invoice and bounced check fees and I may consider blasting the graffiti off your shitty business gain... maybe."Lost" tools becoming stolen equipment and 2 trucks. From "YOU CAN'T FIRE ME" full face visible on security camera, to drug addicts with cordless grinders cutting open the fence.Total struggle dealing with /po/tard-level customers, /b/tard tier thieves, in and out of debt depending on month. Rented out my house, started living in the main work van (noise of midnight thieves woke me and my shotgun up). Then the county introduced "business asset tax", 1st quarter of those taxes put me full into the red. Accounting software projected debt for every into the year.Closed business, sold off all the equipment, but ended up still a few thousand in debt. I made fun of customers who continued calling after I sent official "out of business" letters, "b-b-b-but can't you come and clean my driveway?" "Nope I don't own any equipment that does that".Just a few months back in CNC programming and paid off the remaining debts.Running a business, even simple online store, has costs. Destroy the ability of that business to cover those costs and we have no responsibility to give you free stuff.I thought about selling papercraft I've been designing... then I found /po/ lurked and saw how brutally you treat designers. If /po/ being representative of the customer base anonymous and unleashed; this would have been worse than pressurewashing customers. It would ruin my fun creating models, so keeping it private lets me continue enjoying this hobby, instead of being targeted by malicious greed.

>>606565Straight facts. Also check this video showing a few of the puppets. If you like them, there's a link in the video description leading to a book containing material and blueprints for those puppets, that is being released now.https://youtu.be/OlOoBnXLLD0
>>606694You need to know moonspeak to get something from amazon.jp. And shipping outside of Japan will easily cost more than book itself.

>>606562nice, I bought the book.If nobody else does it i'll try to upload scans here when it arrives. But considering how I like this artist a lot, i'll wait a few weeks for more fans to buy it.
>>606702i got it too, was going to wait a month or so before i made scans public, unfortunately most of the fans frequent this board and will wait as long as possible before buying something then refuse to share it so they can "trade" for other stuff instead of just making the community better.
Posting in a glacial thread. These little puppets are very soulful
even the goddamn OCs are great
>>606702I appreciate that attitude. Good thing is, that as far as I know, this book contains not just blueprints, but all the material needed to build the puppets, so I don't think that the scans will be enough for many people and most people will just buy the book along with the material.
I'm struggling to understand how the rig mechanism works. Does anyone have a pic from behind of any of these? How do the wires/hooks work? Or the joints?
I have the book. It's actually really cool. The only one with thick paper is the white cat girl, the other 11 use thinner paper the same size as the instructions (but still thick enough, hopefully.)There are a hella lot of pages and if I scan I'll likely have to colour correct and vectorise the cutouts, so I won't release until I have time to get around to it. Probably more than 2 weeks. I highly recommend buying it, but I don't want to ruin the book with my scissors so scans should help even to people who have already bought it.

here's some untranslated instructions. just took photos for these since you're not printing with them
>>608793>>608794>>608795YESSSS THANK YOU
>>608793>1mm thick wiresDumb question but is it the kind you can bend easily with your fingers or the kind you can only bend with pliers? I have some wire at home, but I got no idea if I can use it for this
>>608801We designers try to idiot proof instructions by being specific and show what we used ourselves, but often fail at guessing what idiots will ask.If you can bend the wire into these shapes by hand it will be too soft to operate the puppet, so DO NOT USE SOLDER. Floral wire may also be too soft.Paperclips, either common size, should work just fine. Use pliers to get sharp bends and fold-over the tips.
>>608808Ok, thanks a lot(Ouch...)
I'm surprised no one's released any scans besides that previous anon
>>577761lol so because it was pirated, I can’t buy it anymore and the only way to get this kit is to steal it?
>>577761>>577765>>609071>o noes it happened once and the artist panicked! This happens again and again and again. They eventually speak up about these crimes and get /po/opered for it. After enough of it they make their papercraft fun again by going totally private, no longer dealing the nasty diseased public on the internet.Everything costs, profit is needed to keep a website up, pay for internet service, software licenses, stuff to make the test builds from, time spent by the designer, their years of experience they worked to learn and experiment.Notice the difference in quality between free papercraft and pirated papercraft?Did website maintenance for a papercrafter years and years ago. He had a few free items, some pay items, and a few large complex items reserved for premium buyers. He was earning enough to keep the site up, and sometimes a few shitty dollars profit./po/ found the website, sales dropped so badly that he was in the red for an entire year. Posts a new item... one purchase, gets posted here, no more sales. /po/opers figured out how to access the premium items (buy 5 or more items using one account). They got posted here, no more sales. For months he was literally paying to give items away, /po/'s actions forced him to close the site. He's a friend, still makes papercraft, always improving and becoming more creative. None of which will ever be seen because of /po/'s bigotry, he won't even let me take photos.

>>609077TL;DR: It's the internet, privacy is going to happen whenever possible, and it's important to adapt to it. On /po/ you can download a car, remember that.I can understand your argument to an extent, but on the other hand, there are really obvious ways of safeguarding one's own finances as an artist in this craft.Limited high-quality print runs provide fans a way to own physical copies of artwork which will retain their value; a coffee table book featuring designs, photos, and artist commentary is one such example of this practice. An artist could also open up an online storefront specializing in supplies, kits, completed works, and/or commissioned works. In this way, a hobby can be a tax-deductible at worst, and a profit generator at best, with minimal costs involved and minimal need to worry about piracy. Let's not forget the ever-reliable social media/Patreon combo either. Using free platforms to host content, while giving fans an easy way to provide financial support is a bullet-proof strategy when it comes to monetizing a hobby, and it's why pretty much every artist on the internet does it. In this specific case, it doesn't matter as much if the art gets shared around, it's free marketing as long as the artist puts their handle somewhere on the design.People, especially artists and academics, forget that the internet's main purpose is to allow as many people to share as much information as possible. Failure to adapt to that as an artist is not the internet's fault. Much like how it would be absurd for an artist to blame his knife over a misplaced cut. Even in a perfect world, where people somehow managed to make papercraft piracy completely impossible, other people would simply make free versions of the design, or go the hand-drawn route (like I do).
>>609079And then people wonder why everything is monetized to hell or has restrictive piracy protection.
Nice thread, frens. Some links still work,>It's impressive.I'll wrap things up and upload an archive for future anons who visit this thread. I'll be back later.
>>574188i saw this guy a few years back but totally forgot about him until now. this shit’s hella cute tho
>>609077not my problem, I've shared and pirated pdfs and I'll continue to do so. I don't care if some random "artist" is in the red so he can go suck a big one.
>>610765Good luck pirating when there won't be anything new and interesting to pirate because of the frustration fucks as you cause...I pirate myself, but I have standards. I'd never pirate (or more likely share) anything that could shut the business down.
/po/opers are self destructive, bite off the hands that feed them./po/'s extremely hostile anti-designer environment drove me away from creating more papercraft about 10 years ago. Got into sheet metal sculpture... went from swapmeets 10 years ago to 3 years ago working $72/hour doing metal fabrication at an antique automobile restoration company. So, thanks /po/ for persecuting me out of papercraft and please continue shooting yourselves in the head.
>>610805There certainly is something nostalgic about your asshurt posts.
>>610815that was a really good one man you kinda got him there
>>576363WHERE DO I BUY THE TEMPLATE FROM!!!!
>>602810I know I shouldn't have uploaded the link to the artist's file, but at the same time, we needed just one base model to work with and give us ideas of what we could do to make our own.If I thought the artist would've been a retard who would choke on his own pride before taking a breath of humility, I would've never done such. If anything, I was hoping that others, having seen a sample of the quality would desire to purchase other models (which they did)I still regret that even though I was a dick, I thought the other guy was a dick too, and if I realized that he was a pussy I would've never fucked him, because he started doing such shitty counter attacks that he became an asshole. I hope one day he can at least clean off the shit and be the creative pussy he was, knowing I won't fuck him again.
>>611626Everything you need to figure out how they're made are in the videos and photos. Unless you're a newdyke.
>>574188i made one of these for a girl i liked. she didn't give a shit. but that's beside the point, it was really neat and actually a lot of fun to create. i'd actually buy them, but he doesn't sell them anymore. so i just try and collect leaked files, get them printed professionally (usually a min of 20, and like $8) and make my own kit. just to keep.
>>574188wtf i had the same recomendation from youtube and i use DailyTube.

New book released https://youtu.be/S0wig6KwVbU
>>615439I bought it.Considering the sequel is out, I might actually get around to scanning more of PEPAKO. Maybe another few months from now.
>>610801>creators will stop creating if they can't make moneylollmao, even.
I actually made something similar. I also made it where you don't waste your time with wires or anything complicated. All you need is a paper, pencil, glue, tape. I made the first dole and can make it swing it's legs and close both eyes. Now, that I understand the concept and space needed, the next one should not be bad.
>>574188That's amazing. You should be proud, anon.
