There are better lightweight ones but for compactness sure.
>>4298924as everything meme design you are paying extra for the brand
I bought one last autumn and have been borrowing my friends Ulanzi for about a year before that. So they are absolutely a hassle to use (too heavy for 35 mm and too light for medium format) however for the traveling film photographer where you absolutely need to keep the camera steady it's kind of a necessity. Think hard on how much you really need one because I promise you you will leave it at home if you possibly can.Still I ended up going with the peak design version since it is much more serviceable out in the field. The ulanzi is better in many ways including the head, but it's just not as compact and not as easy to clean, with lots of fiddly bits that are kind of cool when you get them but become a hassle once and water and dirt get in between em.I would also occasionally borrow a friend's manfrotto that he uses for studio work. But that thing is just to cumbersome for hiking.Anyway my advice is don't get a tripod unless you NEED one.

>>4298979they exist and arent meme tripods

I'm not a fan of it, I got one but I don't like the twisting to lock and unlock. Would really prefer a lever.
>>4299101What would you recommend instead?
Flimsiest I'd ever consider going is this style. I'm sure the even smaller/lighter ones technically can be serviceable, it gets to a point where it's barely a tripod and you wonder why you bother to bring it at all.
>>4298979here you go, 40mm/32mm legs, and weighs as much as the aluminum peak design
Benro Cyanbird deserves a mention.
>>4299183jeez talk about overpaying, why didn't you order through their ali shopfront
>>4299208you can't you retard, its not there. also its a lot more expensive through their US website.
>>4298924I had a long think about this two years ago, my choice was the current manfrotto be free, in carbon
>>4299267I get the side loop of my backpack between the legs, it's secure, easy to carry, and light enough to forget it once it's there
>>4299267>>4299268Do you use the manfrotto mount? All of my gear is for arca swiss and it would suck to have to get new stuff. Arca Swiss feels very solid I've never had a complaint about it.
>>4298924If your tripod is light enough to hold with one hand, it's not heavy enough to keep your camera still outdoors
>>4299303I'm using it but I don't love it, however I don't have another head/mount so it's a bit of a moot issue for me nowIt works well enough, but I'm sure Arca Swiss is tighter
>>4299422maybe youre just weak
I could never pay $600 for a tripod that doesn't come standard with arca-swiss, not to mention the last section of the Weak Design is so flimsy you might as well just not extend it. It seems like Weak Design is still keeping prices high to subsidize all the free/discounted tripods they gave to youtubers to shill their carbon fiber toothpick
>>4299524The plate is arca compatible, if you remove the pins from the head then that will be too.
>>4299524it is standard arca compatible

So I'm near the beginning of my photography journey and I have finally realized I need a tripod so I can take better pictures of insects on flowers and on the ground. I loathe the idea of buying a tripod manufactured in China and would really prefer if it was made in the USA.Is Colorado Tripod the best option? >>4303000>Made in america is a meaningless label. 90% of stuff "made in america" has just had its final assembly done in america. Western labour is way too expensive for anything elseThis is the way how complex things made (this is also the reason why chinks want to grab Taiwan). The last country that tried to use parts made exclusively inside the border died in 1991 (thank God)
>>4298924I have a 3 legged thing Corey and I really like it. It's like you take one of those cheap ass compact folding tripods you see all over Amazon...then make it actually nice. I don't see any reason to upgrade basically ever.
>>4303000Bike industry is a good example of this. We can buy frames made in Asia exactly to our materials & processes specs without our own QC/QA people overseeing every step, finished, decaled and shipped directly to our shops for $35. Just that frames metal tubing, that very same tube set, costs us $300 to buy in this countrry, and we still have to build a frame out of it and finish it. We have a cottage industry of botique builders in the us that build a frame with the same level of quality that China puts into their frames, but when you have to pay for the american cost of living for even one employee in a sole proprietorship, like Chris Chance for instance, that Fat Chance frame retails for $3000+ by the time it makes it on to the market. The american economic system just cant compete against chinas, theres no way around it. As long as you want the owner class to make as much $ as possible, the costs of everything are maximized to that end and every otter country on earth becomes a better option to do business with.
>>4303000Western labour is too expensive for the culture of cyclical upgrades, but if people could go back to putting up with the concept of not having every toy imaginable RIGHT NOW and having the best one RIGHT NOW it would be fine.Like paying an extra $400 for a bicycle - how many fucking bicycles do you buy?If anything cameras, bikes, etc should be more expensive.>>4303080China is part of the american economic system. Our government has been purposefully propping them up and ensuring they stay cheap. We allow their industrial and economic espionage specifically because of the arrangement you stated: it allows american businesses to buy incomplete assemblies for less than they can make them as long as china is worse to live in than the US.Modern china would not even exist as the strong class divide, genocidal, dog roasting regime it is without us. In 2000, there was an outcry about clinton fully normalizing and extending most favored nation status with them and ever since then china has gotten away with all of the exact same things our overlords say we need to hate and refuse to trade with russia for.
>>4303080The fat chance retails for $3000 because when you can buy incomplete assemblies from a third world country where 70% of the population lives like iron age peasants, the literacy standard is artificially low, and intra-national migration controls are needed to keep the cardboard cities looking nice, making your own thing becomes a premium/prestige thing like buying clothes but italian. It's not a $3000 frame because americans can not make bikes cheaper than that. It's a $3000 frame because chris chance is greedy and wants even more money, and if he only wanted some money, he would max out his profit margins by supporting china. This is OUR system, not theirs. We invented it. We invented it before we even did trade with china, when importers systematically gutted and destroyed the entire western camera industry via trade agreements with japan, which was china-like at the time, but with less animal cruelty and more pedophilia (they weren't forced to cut it out until the most recent olympics)
Speaking of Manfrotto.Thoughts on the befree travel tripods? They sometimes popup on ebay for cheap.

Anyone else really like these cheap heads where turning the handle adjusts the tilt damping? Makes adjustments really quick. Just wish there was a slightly beefier model with another panaromic adjustment on top so it would be possible to also use it with l-brackets.
Basically if this thing had a pano arca plate on top then it would be perfect. just sucks that video oriented heads in general are incompatible with l-brackets without an additional plate for the 90 degree adjustment.
Hmm, I think I mostly found what I was looking for. Just wish it didn't have the horizon leveling shit so the whole thing could be a bit more compact, and having the whole thing being supported on one side instead of both sides like the Vanguard seems a bit less stable.
>>4302652I have it. It's probably not as sturdy as some high dollar tripods but it works great for me. I use it with a sigma 150-600 and r6

Noob here.I have a cheap aluminum tripod with a three-way head. Am I retarded for not seeing the benefit of a ball head? >>4306893>RRS has a two-piece gimbal that is quickly diassembled and folds up much smallerit isnt smaller and it weighs almost twice as much, 0.85 vs 1.46kg> Fotopro has two Gimbalsagain, 1.3kg. try actually looking at the specs next time>>4306901>Half of the smallrig ball sits outside whatever little case this ball head hasmost of the case doesnt act as a bearing surface so it doesnt necessarily matter

>>4306905as I've stated multiple times when on discount it's probably a nice travel tripod all things consideredremember I've bought it for around 120€ cheaper than the F38 Ulanzi (comparing this tripod bought inside the EU with 2 year warranty vs Ulanzi shipped from China)especially if you wanna avoid any knobs protruding away from it or having to rotate the legs 180° from the storage position or any strange colours and so onare the more expensive tripods nicer? yeswould I spend twice as much on a travel tripod? noSo far I've only shot a single day with the tripod. With the 300mm f/4.5 and the OM-4Ti mounted. It was an ok experience even in a very windy (up to 40m/s gusts of wind) weather.
>>4298924I have one, also bought ulanzi one. The PD is still new in box, been like this for months. The PD cost was far more than ulanzi for the price. Though PD do have a quicker extending ability than ulanzi and also the build will be better. Messed up some photos from Norway as the cameras weight pulled down on the QD plate during a long exposure. Have now thread-locked the plate into the tripod thread to help stop this. The lock mechanism and the tilt system on the PD is so-so. Needs to be re-designed imo.[EXIF data available. >>4306916>the knobs stick out too much> you have to spend half a second to rotate the legs upright>the ball cup is picometers too small>yap yap yapWhat an autistic set of complaints I s2g, this websight never ceases to amaze.
Anybody here use one of these chink arca cube knockoffs? I’m thinking of getting one but even 300 still seems a bit steep.[EXIF data available. >>4307167leofoto is a decent chink brand, i wouldn't hesitate
>>4307167that isnt an arca cube knock off. the cubes as their name implies are cubes. that is one of arca's lesser geared heads
New kino just dropped. Did you ever want to use your tripod as... HIKING STICKS?
