My boss used to have a bunch of chickens and she had 3 little terrier dogs. Eventually one of the dogs decided to run down one of the chickens and rip it apart, and of course the other dogs joined in. All 3 of the dogs had to be put down. They wouldn't stop killing her chickens. It's a learned behavior that's very stimulating for them and practically impossible to break. They weren't big enough to be dangerous to adults, but there's nothing to say they wouldn't do the exact same thing to a small child if given the opportunity.
