Yeah families develop weird histories about their elders. In my family, my father’s uncle helped develop the Norden bomb site (which was true) and he also had a cray supercomputer installed in his home (completely false). There are other examples of false stories of him and others in the family, including ww2 exploits but I won’t bore you with them.

God that's so cool... My great uncle believed a lot of things before he passed. He was in WWII, but rode a desk the whole war. Towards the end he would tell stories about his time in the war, mainly lifted from old movies. Being a fighter ace, chasing the Luftwaffe through agricultural buildings (while flying), refusing to ditch a severely damaged plane and hard landing back at base to recover the components. There was a German fella in the wing of his nursing home suffering from the same delusions. They were convinced they fought against each other, lol.
