I bought an American Pro II Strat earlier this year and while I loved it at first there are things I’m learning to really not like. I don’t like the fretboard radius, I find myself pushing both the high and low E strings off of the fretboard. On my guitars with a flatter radius this never happens.

Also:
>need to mow my lawn
>every time I’m able to do so it’s raining
>sunny right now
>but it rained all day
>neighbor has been making passive aggressive remarks about how long my lawn is getting (don’t care he can lick by balls)
>be playing guitar with the window open
>he comes out and begins mowing his lawn even though the grass is still pretty wet from all the rain
>he can see me standing playing guitar in my room through the window
>he points to his lawnmower as if to say “mow your lawn”
>turn the amp up louder and keep playing while watching him mow his lawn
>he keeps glaring at me
Lmao
>>
>>121761078
>window open

You're in a real bind, my man:
>acquiesce and he will think you are his bitch

I would advise hiring a landscaping service for a few months to make him feel inferior.
Also, trade the Strat for a Jazzmaster.
>>

why don't classical guitars have cutaways then?
>>
>>121761349
Classical guitars are not unlike violins where making major changes to their design is frowned upon. They do make nylon string guitars with cutaways though my friend has one
>>

>making major changes to their design is frowned upon.
cause it changes the tone. same reason why the tele should not be changed.

I owned that same model of strat in the surf blue and maple fretboard. Same experience as you, but instead of having a bending issue, I ended up just hating the sound as aesthetic of strats. Very bright sounding, but very weak and gay at the same time. I highly suggest selling it and getting a telecaster instead. You get a very bright sound, but it has more upper mids in the spectrum and is much more punchy and strong. Super versatile tone, and you don't have a pesky middle pickup that gets in the way of your picking. You can get an incredible lifer guitar by purchasing an american tele and swapping out the pickups for some custom shop pickups or even Ron Ellis pickups, and maybe even swap out other hardware like the bridge for something more vintage accurate.
>>
>>121761647
I would buy a tele if there was a standard tremolo system. I don't want to slap a gay looking bigsby on it.
>>

If you need a tremolo system, then go for a jazzmaster. They are probably the closest guitar to a strat in terms of brightness, but it is way more punchy and mid focused. Also, you really only need two pickups on a guitar. Just make sure you get one with a 9.5" fretboard radius and some high quality pickups.

What amp you playing through?

Punk rock is a comedy improv act where you dress up in a costume and pretend to be a musician. You sell an image of being a burnout loser to other burnout losers. You don't have to try to be good or anything, just sell the image and COMMIT to the improv, call everybody else a poseur while you pretend to be a musician. Actually sounding good is bad in this comedy bit. Now this may not seem that funny when you're 15 because everybody is wearing costumes for their cliques at high school. But the joke really gets good when they reach 30 and still suck ass and cannot make good sounding music yet have to continue to pretend.

I love the cognitive dissonance of all the retards here that shit on "bad" guitarists that are a million times more successful than they they ever will be.
Same sour grapes of all the drummers who shit on Meg White despite her being integral to the core sound of the White Stripes.

If all these musicians are so bad, and you're so good, how come you've got jack shit to show for it? Who the hell do you think you are? You’re any kind of artist? Anybody know who you are? Maybe evrybody else wants to enjoy the peace and quiet. This is one of the most important places in North America and who are you? Who are you? You miserable presumptious no talent. You’re no artist. An artist respects the silence, it serves the foundation of creativity. You obviously don’t have the talent. You don’t have enough respect for yourself or other people, or know what it means to respect yourself. In music or any form of creativity. And I’m an NYU fil-school graduate. Sucker. And the School of Visual Art in the Academy of Art University in San Fransisco. You suck. You’re a no talent. If you really have talent, go practice. And then get yourself a gig, instead of ruining the day for everybody down here. You disgrace. You are everything that’s gone wrong in this world. You’re a self consumed, no-talent, mediocre piece of shit. And I’ve earned my right to say it. Okay? In 1975, I walked Bob Dylan up on stage. Who the fuck are you? I knew the Grateful Dead from 1966. Who the fuck are you? You’re nothing. You are nothing. And you will never be anything. Never. How dare you? You miserable, mediocre nothing. Shame on you. You crack a stupid little smile, you little pimp. Go learn to play. You’re flat. You can’t even carry a fucking note. I don’t care about your little horn lip, it doesn’t mean you know how to play. You’re flat. I’ve trained classically, I’ve trained contemporaneously, and you suck.

>says nothing about the music but about the clothes some performers wear
plus black flag went against the punk rock outfit, they never wore leather jackets or shit, they just wore normal ass clothes, and grew their hair out when being a punk rocker meant you have to have a shaved head
they never gave a fuck about image and it was always about sound
you can say that you don't like punk but attacking it for using power chords or because of the clothes they wear is just stupid and says nothing of what you actually dislike about the music itself

I like to dial it in to where you can just get pinch harmonics with the guitars tone knob all the way up. And build from there. Giving the guitar enough trebble on the way in means you can capture more harmonics, and can duck below the level pinch harmonics sound out at with the tone knob. If you have distortion pedals or other effects that have tone shaping ability you can make different eq/gain options. If your question was regarding just a guitar and amp, that would be my answer. Enough trebble to not eliminate parts of your technique (getting usable harmonics), and adjusting bass and mids to taste/style you are going for. If playing in a band setting, you will probably use more trebble and less bass than you would think. The tone of each instrument combines to form a whole. An ice pick guitar tone with a growling bass and a mid heavy keyboard could combine to sound cool. But the guitar on its own would not sound how you would want it if you were just playing solo guitar by yourself. And there is a lot of leeway. There is no wrong tone really, it all depends on context.
>>
>>121764193
It sounds bad and it's a theory as to why anybody would ever fall for it or why somebody would deliberately choose to be bad. It has to be comedy. That's all that would make sense.

both are masturbatory clowns who favor technicality over melodic songwriting.
vai was good when he was constrained within the settings of other bands (mostly while under zappa) but as a solo artist he falls flat. both play guitar like olympic gymnasts on the balance beam, doing tons of unnecessary movements and flourishes because it's merely part of the judging criteria.
son house had better songwriting ability than either of them ever will.

Me with my Revstar. I’ve played Strats for 18 years but whenever I pick up one of my Strats to play I end up putting it back for the Revstar. It feels so nice and sounds so good. I’m genuinely thinking about picking up an expensive Japanese model just because I like this one so much.

My first nice guitar was an MIM Strat. At some point I burned off the paint and sanded the body down to bare wood, oil finished it. Sanded out some contours to make it even comfier, swapped out the pickups, gave it a wackass treble bleed mod, and changed it to master volume+tone controls. I have a few other guitars, namely an American Jaguar and an RG8, but that strat is favorite to play with.

I have had 11 strats, MIA, MIM and MIK (lite ash strat was fender made in korea believe it or not)

>b-but I wanna do fingerstyle or some other random thing!
imo don't try anything else until you learn how chords are built. You should know two versions on the fretboard for each major, minor chord. Variations like sus4,sus2, 7th, add11 only need one finger movement change most of the time
By the end of it you should know from any random root note on the fretboard where the II,III,IV,V,VI chords could be located

I need serious help with deciding on an amp. From what I'm reading, it seems impossible to beat the Katana MK II artist head. Is it better to get the head and cab separately, or get the Katana MK II artist combo? I will probably spend most of my time on my PC AKG K701's, which is why I'm leaning towards the head, but that doesn't mean I don't want to occasionally play with a speaker. I'm not quite sure what the artist head by itself offers, that the combo doesn't.
From what I understand a lot of people hate these, but there doesn't seem to be anything even close in terms of features and performance out there.

If you want something that does it all the endgame is something like a kemper, helix or quad cortex with a FRFR cab. The speaker is uncolored so you can use cab sims to simulate different speakers. Will it sound as good as the thing it's emulating? No it's maybe 80-90% of the way there. But it will do everything and you can even play bass through it
>>
>>121771369
Huh, depending on price I would just get a charvel san dimas though. If super low budget you could get a kramer striker for an 80s superstrat.

Yeah I know, still might do it. My MIM Strat and cheapo Ibanez bass both need new jacks so once I get around to it I’ll do all three at once (not using tape tho). The factory jack is good enough for me but if I’m doing those two might as well do the Revstar too.

Any experience with Tokai Guitars? A local guy has a Tokai SG copy and a Tele copy and I’m thinking about them. Reading online they were good enough that Fender sued them. Is it worth buying a very good copy for less than a more expensive original?

I’ve never really liked SGs (I think they’re ugly and growing up watching School of Rock they’ve always been a joke guitar to to me) but $700 for a Japanese made Gibson copy that everyone says is great is very tempting. Im more interested in his Tokai Tele though.

If you’re ever wanting a vintage silverface amp, you ought to get a 70s twin since they’re extremely low in demand and therefore even cheaper than the shitter reissue amps. The vibrolux and the deluxe reverbs are going to be way more expensive because more people want them, but the twins sound better in my opinion and certainly pack enough power and low end if you ever want to be in a loud band

Based, though wish the cutaway was a little deeper

What are some actually good youtubers worth watching to improve on an advanced level? A lot of the ones mentioned here always tend to be the beginner friendly ones.

It depends on what genres you want to play. For Jazz, Jens Larsen is really helpful. For Country and Blues, Guthrie Trapp

To be honest yeah it was probably a huge mistake on his end. Should have just got all the electric components swapped out instead of trying to keep it as original as possible and replacing parts piecemeal as they expired. He plays some little supro combo now which while cool is a huge downgrade

I agree the upper fret access is pretty bad. Its a cool guitar but theres little stuff like that and it bugs me so I havent found the motivation to get it fixed up. Cant bring myself to sell it either though

Silverface Twins have been the steal for a couple of decades. I guess the weight is too much for some

It’s an absurd deal. I lift weights and am pretty strong compared to the majority of people and my 78 twin reverb is pretty fucking heavy (~90 lb) and a bitch to carry down staircases for basement shows. That being said, the early to mid 70s twins aren’t nearly as heavy. People are fucking pussies, it’s not that bad. The incredible clean tones and available volume you get from a 70s twin makes it worth it

I play metal mostly and I need someone to watch to get my technique up without that someone being a cringy cunt like most guitar youtbers. I figure it doesn't even have to be some metal guy, anyone with skill and speed will do, I'll just turn on distortion later. I'll check these guys out though, thanks.

Will check em out, thanks.

Check out Tom Hess, he's a metal player and emphasis is mostly on right and left hand technique. I was hard capped at 130 bpm 16th notes for years and after watching and applying some of the techniques in his videos I felt like a light switch flipped on and I shot up to 160 almost overnight

you sure that amp's the real deal?
>>
Damn. Been reading a ton. There really isn't anything speaking to me, where I can say "yeah, this is better than my micro dark". Its all a ton of useless bells and whistles. Think I'll get a big cab instead thoughever.
>>
>>121780695
ah, it's the phaser that added the compression in that made it sound like a katana. that makes sense.
>>
>>121780754
Yeah. I dig the katana too, but a katana isn’t going to have huge crispy Louis cleans like a twin. A twin will cut through a full band and move a massive amount of air without sounding the least bit muffled or muddy. If you’re a bedroom player or are recording, a katana or Princeton reverb are great

Loud, not louis, fuck
