Musicians generally skip the middle phase. I wish they had relied less on effects and studio stuff in their 80s stuff especially because they didn't need the crutch at all, each one of them is a Mt Rushmore player on their instrument

I went through this lifecycle. The second stage wasn’t that long for me though. I never disliked Rush, but I did think they were pretty corny and uncool for a while. But then a few years ago I got back into them in a major way. Probably they would rank in my Top 5 now.
