What are some /m/ designs that both east and west seem to share love for?
I think the Metal Gears are a good example. It scratches the itch of the Biped walking A-10 warthog that Westerners gravitate towards but also seem to have finese and sleekness of Easterners tend to favor making them liked by both.

Everything in Dougram, unironically. It is basically foundational to the Western mecha pantheon, though it does not seem to often be acknowledged as such by many save for /m/en of course.
>>
>>22582433
>>22582434
tbf it's not super consistent how the ST power armor is supposed to look which is why there's so many different designs to it.
>>
>>22582647
As long as it looks reasonably like a hydrocephalic gorilla, it's ok.
>>
>>22582647
for me its always this
>>
>>22582452
Starship Troopers has had a massive influence on the "piloted mecha" concept in general. The name "Mobile Suit" comes from the concept taking inspiration from the powered suits worn by the mobile infantry in the book.
>>
>>22582654
I don't see how.
power armor and mecha is a completely different thing
>>
>>22582659
You have the autism.
>>
I don't understand this thread, you are in a board made for westerners to appreciate eastern designs, is that not enough?
>>
>>22582671
This board usually shits on western designs or takes on mecha dingbat
>>
>>22582662
don't see what that has to do with anything
>>
>>22582659
Power armor is person sized
Mecha is tank sized
Super robo is building size and larger

Explain any tangible difference is between these other than the scale
>>
>>22582929
tone
>>
>>22582929
power armor is a suit of armor, its poweres armored clothes. its not mecha, its not a vehicle.
mecha is a vehicle you pilot, regardless of the size.
real robot, is a machine with strict rueles of reality that apply to it, realistic mecha.
super robot is a non realistic, exaggerated mecha. with fantastical elements and fluid rules.
>>
>>22583402
Both a mecha and power armor possess armor and some kind of power supply or engine to provide them with locomotion. I do not understand the means of arbitration you are using to differentiate between a vehicle and clothes. Clothes are given locomotion by the power of the operator.
>>
>>22583402
Nah, your autism is terminal, the people making this sort of media don't give a shit about your so-called definitions. Also learn how to type properly.
>>
>>22583859
a plane possesses armor and power supply, that don't make it a mecha.
power armor is provided control of locomotion through natural movement of the operators limbs. like clothes.
mecha is provided control through leveras and buttons and pdals. like a vehicle.

>>22583860
heil grammar.

I believe all 3 of these are vehicles based just on that they are self propelled contraptions for carrying a person or payload. Also based on your criteria of the control surfaces, wouldn't G Gundam's Shining Gundam or Star Driver's Tauburn, among many others, be a power armor unit since the pilot controls the mobile suit almost entirely through free movement within the cockpit with no analog levers or buttons?
What then of an autonomous AI controlling the mecha or the power armor? Would it necessarily be one or the other if it had one installed?

g gundam is one reception to the criteria, because the control suit is completely detached from anything and is still just in a cockpit, doesn't even have to be inside the mecha really.

escaflowne would be more apt, but its still controlling a big machine instead of suit of armor around you. the biggest thing for me. power armor being just that, armor. it needs to be smaller.
even if mecha is small, its still mecha, but power armor needs to be smaller to be power armor.

ai controlling just makes it a robot.
>>
Older Japanese men loved the Jaegers from Pacific Rim but younger Japanese men did not, from the ones I've met and talked mecha with. I'm not sure what to make of that.

This is apparently how it's supposed to look according to the book's description, more or less (some would say it should be more gorilla-like). Which yeah, I'd rather take the look of the OVA or the CG movies
>>
>>22585801
>>22585805
What isn't shown is that that silly little tiny Metal Gear has better armor than any of them that came before, and the fact that it's small means it can actually serve its goddamn purpose, to sneakily deploy a nuke without people being aware of its location.

It's meant to be a submarine on land, not a battle tank. Something later games forgot.

Nobody really talks about the glory that is lego Exo-Force. Being based on anime and eastern designs it feels like the only good western real robot thing out there.

Lego ninjago also has mechs, but they are fucking do shit and are a perfect example of why western mechs suck

Exo-force understands the coolness of eastern mechs and rolls with it. Ninjago is a sad attempt at what a westerner thinks an eastern styled mech is

He can only reach his maximum combat capability with his human pilot, but he is capable of autonomous movement and navigation. To say a mecha isn't a mecha when it has the ability to seek you out and get you to get mount it like a kind of loyal warhorse is ridiculous. Robot does not necessarily mean an automoton.
>>
>>22589415
yeah that's like titanfall 2 stuff
its like hybrid kind of thing. I like it a lot because of symbiosis and connection between pilot and robot.

I truly wonder how great an inspiration Full Metal Panic was to Titanfall. Al is, in my opinion, the most memorable cockpit AI ever and all of my mecha fantasies involved a talking cheeky robot buddy in the cockpit ever since I watched it way back in the day.
>>
>>22591040
full metal panic has that?
I always though it was some quirky school parody with big bioba and guns or something
>>
>>22591221
It's several things.
>>
>>22591221
The story is mostly about terrorism, paramilitaries, world governments, and modern warfare, kinda like MGS. And there are indeed high school romcom hijinks to filter the normalfags.
Truly a perfect anime.
>>
>>22592132
normalfags watch only for that, so if anything its only to rope them in
>>
>>22591221
That's Fumoffu, the comedy series that takes place between the first 2 seasons and focuses entirely on the high school hijinks.
Fumoffu is genuinely a really good show though, I recommend it.
