hopefully the sandland vidya doesn't end up being shit, he deserves to be known as more than a shounen mangaka
>>
Didn't he start out as a mechanical draftsman? I think I read somewhere he originally worked drawing car parts for a catalogue.
>>
I’ll confess. Usually I’m the one that says that the franchise isn’t /m/……I’ll allow this one since this news absolutely stunned me since it was still a part of my childhood and how influential he was. I get that it was a complete accident in regards to his fall but still its incredibly shocking to hear his passing at all since he had a lot left in him but shit like this does happen unfortunately especially when you get older and head trauma can be much more life threatening. F to one of the Manga icons, maybe you can meet tezuka and ishinomori up there

No fucking way, I didn't believe it and thought it was a joke at first, but yeah it seems Toriyama really is gone. I didn't expect it to happen this year, I thought he had a few more in him. And it was such a random accident like you said, what a shame. I always liked his mecha and ship design, not just from DBZ but for stuff like Chrono Trigger too. Most recently, Kimutaka (Takahiro Kimura) passed away, and a friend of mine who came to Tokyo with me from Hiroshima also passed away. It may sound far-fetched, but I'm doing this as if I'm carrying the thoughts and feelings of these people with me. I want to run all the way to the finish line, bursting with courage. To achieve this, I would like to ask for your support. Sitting in a compact position for long periods puts certain parts of your circulatory system under undue strain, especially as you age and shit like arterial plaque builds up, your arteries stiffen, smoking and drinking, etc. Lots of these guys are under heaps of stress too which contributes to eventual hypertensive disorders, left untreated can result in aneurysms, strokes, and higher risks of stuff like dissections that can lead to brain bleeding. Mangaka's are historically extremely unhealthy people due to their lifestyle.

Going back a bit, but the most fitting "nautical" death of a creator was when Nishizaki fell to his death off a 500 ton research "steamship" (I loved that lost in translation bit, only translation better would have been "cruiser") named - what else - Yamato. The 'Nish was ostensibly suiting up for a dive but one wonders given his history of owning a full-auto M16 (with Tony Montana grenade launcher mounted, no shit) in Japan along with a "speedball" of drugs and various artillery sufficient to conquer a small country...brings a tear to the eye really thinking of it all.

There's still people like Atsuji Yamamoto or Hisashi Eguchi who are part of Toriyama's generation and share very similar styles and passion for mechanical designs, Yamamoto in particular has extremely similar mechanical designs although he's overall a much better artist and mangaka than Toriyama but people aren't ready for this conversation and this is not a good time to start it either.
Good luck getting Bandai to call them though, especially for a Gundam game, Yamamoto at least works on Metal Max games to this day so you can still get some cool stuff, iirc Yoshihisa Tagami also used to draw very similar mechanical designs, even look by looking at things like Galvion you wouldn't say that.

>From your perspective, Katsura-sensei, what is something you find incredible about Toriyama-sensei?
>Katsura: That sense of clarity, and design. Toriyama-san‘s pictures have nothing unpleasant about them. I think that’s great about them, and I find it amazing. He’s incredibly good at drawing things in a caricatured style.
>Toriyama: But on the flipside, I can’t draw them properly.
>Katsura: Oh, you know that you can.
>Toriyama: No I can’t!
>Katsura: What, why not? Take those plastic model soldier packages for instance: you made their faces big, but if you drew them in a normal, smaller size then they’d be fine.
>Toriyama: But it wouldn’t be like me to draw them that way. I don’t really like drawing proper proportions. Especially not in manga.
>Katsura: So you could draw it but you choose not to. Still, you’re in a world where you can say “this is the way I am”. I think that’s your forte. Whereas I can’t commit and just draw all kinds of things.

I think the biggest reason was because more people were familiar with the old anime, not the manga, and the anime never did Toriyama's art justice.

It hardly seems real that such a monumental figure in the industry is gone so soon; I'd have thought he still had a while to go at his age but then a bizarre twist of fate results in an untimely end like that and blindsides everyone. The guy definitely had an aptitude for mechanical designs and fine details, and his material could be surprisingly humorous as well as entertaining, and I'm glad I had and took the opportunity to enjoy his work in my youth.
>>
>>22533476
It has come out that he had a brain tumor and had surgery last month, February. It's like his death was a result of the operation, so it wasn't a complete accident, although the public wasn't made aware of his health issues. He wrote a statement for a newspaper back in December talking about not knowing for how long he'd be able to work, although not mentioning directly any specific issues.

Hated the art style of that movie. Glad things got patched up between Kyosuke, Madoka, and Hikaru.

Forgot that Kyosuke's dad voiced Yang. Reminds me of 2006 when I heard Hirotaka Suzuoki passed away. He did the following anime roles:

- Tenshinhan from DB/DBZ/DBGT
- Bright from MSG/Z/ZZ/CCA
- Dragon Shiryu from Saint Seiya
- Kuno from Ranma 1/2
- Saito from Rurouni Kenshin

We keep losing more and more of the people who brought us so much joy in anime and manga.

The creepy thing is that his last anime role was Mr. Shiozawa from Gate Keepers; a role where he played an entity that masquerades as humans. His character legitimately thought he was a human being and had a mental meltdown when he realized he was an Invader.

>Single player vs multiplayer
>housing has linear upgrades and you can't even interact with it vs housing being completely customizable and interactable
>not a lot of mech customization vs 7+ different robots each with a number of different options
>robots all pilot the same vs robots pilot completely different
>no ability to paint robot vs custom paint robot
>visual character customization vs skill tree customization
>brainless waifu vs actual side characters

God bless Toriyama for this one last gift before he left.
