Does anyone wear gloves while reading? I was thinking about buying some cotton ones to keep my hands from getting my books dirty.
>>

Yes I do to prevent the oil from my hands staining the pages.

Gloves are le shit for handling books if you have normal non sweaty hands. I thought about it but cant be assed desu.
>>
Just wash your hands, genius.
>>
The only reason to wear gloves whilst reading a book is if the book you’re reading is an actual relic 100+ years old minimum and/or worth $1,000+ Either way washing your hands does the trick 99% of the time

Even with old books I've seen numerous people who deal with them in museums and collections say that they don't wear gloves because with gloves it's easier to tear the pages or harm the paper. The little bit of oil on your fingers will do nothing to a book.

lol

For reading, no; for driving, yes.

i always plan ahead with reading and normally leave a book next to the stove or ideally my deep fryer for a few days before reading it. the airborne oil makes the pages feel heavier in your hand, thus making the whole reading experience more comfortable. works especially good for cheap paperbacks when the paper is very thin originally
>>
something like picrel for the cover should be enough

shouldn't wear gloves with old books unless it is made from arsenic or something. very easy to rip or destroy pages with gloves on

I'm building a robot who will turn my pages. He will have to wear gloves though

No, you weirdo

If I was a collector and none of my books were less than 50 years old, then sure. But for modern publications... What even is the point?
I use a kindle anyways.
>>
i wear a condom to avoid nutting in the books i read
>>
>>23317151
And how are you going to turn pages with gloves on? How will you keep the book from slipping out of your hands?
>>
>>23317151
Me, I manipulate the pages with canned air. Just crimp the straw at the end.

You can buy book polish at any reputable book store

The oil on the skin helps preserve old pages

If you talk to special collections librarians, and I have, they will tell you to NOT use gloves for the vast majority of situations. The only times where gloves are warranted that come to mind are handling unfired clay tablets and the use of surgical gloves when conserving a book. Gloves reduce tactility and make page tearing much more common. DO NOT USE GLOVES!

No, I'm not insane. I write in my books, I don't care that my bare hands are turning the pages.
Maybe for old first editions or something with high scarcity or historical value.
