anybody read it, is it based???? or is it BOOOO ONIONS
>>23313528Been a while but it was interesting how he ties in Bach’s motifs with those Escher drawings, how they loop in a similar fashion and twist and turn and return to where they started. Same with Godel’s mathematics. Probably much longer than it needed to be. His other book I Am a Stange Loop is a curious examination of consciousness and his little experiments with his video camera aimed at the tv screen. I dunno.
>>23313528It's a book you should have read as a precocious teenager.
It's Reddit.
>>23313528STEMfag here, I think it's mediocre. The scientific sections, particularly the derivation parts, were somewhat interesting, but the Achilles+Tortoise sections sucked. The one where the text is the same regardless of whether it's read backwards or forwards was the only good one.Somewhere in the middle of it I realised I'd rather be reading a textbook instead. Might be decent for a layman unfamiliar with the subject.
>>23313764>but the Achilles+Tortoise sections suckedPleb tier take, those parts are delightful. All math/science books should be this playful.
>>23313528It used to be shilled here all the time.
Idk, I bought it and I heard it took 7 years for someone to read so I don't know if I should waste my time.
>>23314189His overall "point" about consciousness is not really worth all the effort, but it's a book that's about the journey - the dialogues are very clever and he does a good job getting into the nitty gritty of some fairly difficult ideas. As with most books - don't read it if you don't enjoy it. It's not like he reveals the cure for cancer on the last page

>>23313528Personally, I couldn't get into it primarily because of the proto-reddit dialogues, just absolutely awful.
