This nigga published novels where protagonists lust after underaged kids, and then wrote essays justifying pedophilia, gloated about being in sexual relationships with girls below 15 in his published diaries(and he actually based the heroines in his novels on those girls), promoted the virtues of child sex tourism on national television, and yet managed to win numerous prestigious literary awards? Just how? He didn't even try to hide anything lol
Why are french people like this?
>>
From Vanessa Springora's Consent(2020). She is one of his victims and wrote the book detailing her relationship with him in the 80s. According to her the left was pretty tolerant and supportive of pedophilia in the 70s to 90s
>The reason is that in the 1970s, in the name of free love and the sexual revolution, everyone was supposed to be in favor of the liberation of physical pleasure. Repressing juvenile sexuality was considered to be a form of social oppression, and limiting sexual relationships to those between individuals of the same age range constituted a form of segregation. The fight against any curb on desire, any kind of repression, was the watchword of the era; no one spoke up against it, except for a few straitlaced puritans and reactionary tribunals.
>>
The 70s were very libertine and while they seem forward or perverse, reflect older social mores. They thought there was going to be a revolution and that their view from the enclaves reflected some greater reality. Did it? Maybe. I find it reflective of the growing divide between the academic and the common audience.

As >>23309847 points out, there was an extremely libertine view that didn't account for nascent views on juvenile psychology and agency, which previously didn't exist at all and only came into full being as a result of the industrial revolution and labor laws. Adolescence as we conceive of it is a post-war phenomenon. And a lot of shit was nearly normalized and yet too forbidden to be a topic of conversation so it enabled tons of nasty shit.

The French are simply the only western country that put up a serious fight against being absorbed by the zio-protestant anglobohomo. Technically so did Germany for a short while but they went full retard about it.

There are pop history books on the similar invention of childhood that go into it. Compulsory education and boomers being the children of a comparatively wealthy working class also made adolescence into something other than adulthood. Sweeping changes to the legal system also gave minors rights and further separated them from adults. It all fed back into the cultural perception of adolescence as a distinct phenomenon.

>Le magazine L’Express révèle qu'Ivre du vin perdu, son best-seller, a atteint le chiffre de 20 000 exemplaires vendus, que la plupart de ses livres connurent des ventes comprises entre 1 500 et 2 000 exemplaires, et que Séraphin, c’est la fin !, pour lequel il se voit décerner le prix Renaudot essai en 2013, ne dépassa pas les 3 500 ventes.
Hahahaha, anons on /lit/ are selling more than him, despite his buddies giving him prizes and free advertisement. He really is just a media meme for the 10 year olds sex.

What else do you expect from the french
Even in this day and age they are churning out films like cuties without even realizing the controversial nature of the content for the rest of the world

Pretty comfy desu. The alternative to nepotism and literary cliques is mass appeal, slop for quantity. That one could write books, even one's journals, knowing there will be a publisher for it, and that there is a select group who knows and likes you — is ideal. He never wrote for the masses it seems.

Yes. Having a small group of literate high society patrons that are the only ones you have to pander to (if you can even call it that) and ensures you an upper bourgeoisie material life (including enough money for effectively unlimited 12yo hookers) while warding off any legal trouble.
You may not like it, but this is peak /lit/ performance.
Although the plebeians did end up shutting down his editors for his most recent book.

His work Ivre du vin perdu is like lolita but pro pedophilia
>>
At least he didn't like little boys that's enough for me

Matzneff had long described raping children in his work; his diary Un Galop d'Enfer, published in 1985, stated that whilst in the Philippines he would regularly rape underage boys. He wrote that "Sometimes, I'll have as many as four boys—from 8 to 14 years old—in my bed at the same time, and I'll engage in the most exquisite lovemaking with them."[3]
