if ak good den why ukraine use ar?
>>
>>61562034
If "gibs me dat" was a country, its Ukraine.

They'd use keltecs if we sent them.
>>
>>61562034
Because NATO is not producing 5.45 or 7.62x39 on an industrial scale. And before you ask why don’t they give them AK’s in 5.56, NATO also isn’t producing AK parts to service those weapons either. From an ammo re supply and repair and service point of view it’s easier to give them AR’s so they can accept our stock of 5.56 ammo

I mean, yeah.
If they're good enough for use on an actual trench wat against Russians I'd say they're duty proven.
>>
>>61562357
there is no love lost between me and Ukraine but I will say the entire conflict has been funny for demonstrating what is viable on the battlefield. That really goes for both sides desu, Russia has proven that holosun is amusingly g2g
>>
>>61562377
Estonia literally adopted a Holosun optic as their main optic for the army so they've been g2g for awhile
>>
>>61562383
I believe South Korea uses them as well in a large capacity. Honestly its just not that hard to make a decent red dot it seems

Can someone please explain what 4.5mm and 5.5mm AK's are and what the difference means?
>>
>>61562632
Rear trunion stock pins
Russian uses 5.5 and bulg use 4.5
>>
>>61562383
Yeah? And India fucking uses fab defense. Just because something is “military proven” doesn’t mean it’s particularly good. Not saying holosun isn’t good, just saying we shouldn’t be using military adoption as a metric for what is good.
>>
>>61562657
No. Russians used 4.5mm and now use 5.5mm. Russian AKS-74s and AKS-74Us both have 4.5mm.

In war, everything remotely usable that is available will be used. Because there is never enough of the premium stuff and the life expectancy of men and equipment is not particularly high. The entire idea of stuff being used in war meaning anything other than it was available is stupid at best.

You seriouslyy think aks are better than ARs? Man, I love aks but I lost all respect for this general.
>>
>>61563049
The Sub2Ks were originally meant for sale on the Ukrainian civilian market.
KelTec had all the paperwork done to export the gun to a Ukrainian distributor, but when the war broke out they lost contact with the distributor, so they just donated the guns to the Ukrainian government since they already had all the paperwork allowing them to do so. It gave them some positive press, and they didn't have to be stuck with a shipping container full of guns they couldn't sell or take back.

That's why they sent Sub2000s. As for if/how these guns got used, it seems most of the guns went to the police and territorial guard around Kyiv.
>>
>>61563903
He probably also seriously thinks that Ukraine gets sent pallets of cash, and that most of it isn't staying state-side.

This may not be the best place to ask this but does anyone know why we never saw ak-74s in afghanistan after the soviets left. They seemed to use exclusively akms during the US occupation even though they had to capture alot of 74s from the soviets. Is this just because they couldn't get 5.45 in quantity like they could 7.62?
>>
>>61567562
Logistics, mainly. The afghans never captured enough AK74s and 5.45 ammunition to outfit their entire force. And it wasn’t like they had the manufacturing capabilities to make more. Most of what they received was surplus AKMs from china and the Middle East through way of Pakistan.

its more reinforced than 4.5mm, therefore stronger and less prone to breaking. The US market has more or less standardized on 4.5mm because of Bulgarian imports and then PSA subsequently using Bulgarian guns to base their folding AKs off of because they are lazy. We had a 5.5mm option up till KUSA decided to off itself. never forghetti 07

Metal covered front lug and metal reinforcements are what people look for in polymer magazines. Reason being is a polymer front lug gets ate up from use, metal covering front lug gets ate up way less. Reinforcements are obvious, metal more stronger than plastic.
>>
>>61568511
Correcto. Metal locking lugs (and ideally feed lips as well) will make the mag last significantly longer.
>>
>>61568534

Thanks. That's the AC mag so it's about halfway there, lacking the metal feed lips. Beggars can't be choosers though so I am grateful for what I can get.

those M14s came from the baltics, which were donated by the US as the soviets sort of took all the weaponry locked up in armories in the baltics when they left and people were getting uppity against moscow. it also helped since the baltics unanimously wanted to join nato asap for reasons we can only wonder

Over half my paycheck goes to my savings and I always keep a few thousand bucks in disposable savings but I already bought a Galil (range toy) a few months ago and I'm trying to justify this one by using its for home defense. I just feel like I'm spending frivolously because I sunk a lot of money into a stupid car I never should have bought (I'm not in debt or anything, was just a retarded purchase I didnt need.). I know this isn't the place for financial device and I apologize for my blogfagging, but I'm young and a new gun owner and I just want input from more experienced gun owners.
>>
>>61570548
lol in that case, you don't "need" one. That said, typically people will accessorize their hd weapon. So, not just the firearm, but lights, optics, furniture, etc. I know this is /akg/, but consider an AR as a new owner. You will have an easier time adding and swapping those accessories, as well finding and purchasing them. But if youre deadset on getting an AK, then do that. Just make sure you train with whatever you choose, and you should be fine.

You can also defend your home with psa dagger. You don't need to go all out.
>>
>>61570620

That guy's custom Zastava gas regulator is $120 vs the reddit piston which is $159, and requires you to measure your op rod as well as do some minor gunsmiffing. Personally, I would lean toward Zastava, since M90s are fairly affordable, and it's a drop-in solution vs something that forces you to bubba your AK.
>>

I was looking at getting a WBP since Zastava's furniture aftermarket (Zastava wood feels exceptionally cheap and I hate the feel of Hogue) is much smaller compared to standard AKM. If I'm feeling cheap and adventurous maybe even a Pioneer if reports of their new "forged" series not being timebombs that beat themselves to death are true, but if I go that route should I even bother giving money to a smith to install a new gas block?
>>
Is it worth selling my AR-15 and buying a WBP or Fabryka Broni?
>>
>>61574170
The M90 is mid: it's literally the heaviest AK you can buy without getting into RPK's and the groups are mediocre.

The reddit piston is pretty easy to install as long as your gun wasn't touched by Century.

I'm good. Also if Ukraine was, en masse, selling their NATO n' Friends aid on the black market I think this war would have been over a long time ago. One more thing. Think about the logistics of trying to move the smuggled arms out of Ukraine. How the fuck are you getting it out of the country? Can't by sea. Most of Ukraine's land borders are either with a country they are at war with or are butt buddies with sea is not going to happen because Ukraine sure as hell is not going to let a few arms smugglers risk the grain corridor getting closed. So finally I want you to ask to whom and how are they moving all these ill gotten arms?

Id love an AK200 series rifle too, but sureshot has the greatest potential solution for everyone here.

This is true. The limited edition rifles, shotguns and kp9's were a retarded idea.
>>
>>61579130
They need a "custom shop" that allows people to order their guns with Barwarus, Sureshot, pistol grips, triggers, reddit pistons, etc. that they would install anyway. A lot of people would pay for the convenience rather than doing the minor gunsmithing. Look at how most ARs are sold with freefloat mlok rails rather than with A2 clamshells over the counter nowadays. The AK industry needs to catch up in that regard.

WBP 5.56 Jack SC or FB Radom Beryl
>>
>>61580266
You take the red pill and buy a Beryl because everything else has some inexcusable drawback.
>jack 556: nitrided barrel, 45 degree block, commercial factory
>m90: heavy as fuck for what it is, finish susceptible to corrosion
>sam5: beats itself to death, milled furniture aftermarket is hopeless, Vartan tax
>PSA101: no dimpled receiver, no swell neck rivets, weird bolt peening issue that causes popped primers and broken firing pins, commercial factory
>WASR3: terrible mag compatability, (now) nitrided barrels, per-usual terrible finish
>Pioneer 556: fucked up firing pin channel geometry: it will break firing pins like a motherfucker unless you replace the bolt wit ha beryl one. Nitrided barrel, 45 degree gas block.
>>
>>61580811
Only good thing about the Jack is that AoA in theory allows a lot of easy customization at this point. With KUSA's future up in the air I am considering a 5.56 Beryl cut to 16 inches as the last hope.
>>
>>61580266
Zastava M90 is the best 5.56 ak on the market without much competition. PSA and Pioneer aren't really worth talking about, WBP makes a weird akm abortion with a nitrided barrel, and both the SAM5 and Beryl are absurdly overpriced for what they are.
>>
>>61580878
How the hell is the Beryl overpriced? It's a semi-auto version of the actual 5.56 Beryl made for the US market. An actual NATO spec AK. The price is fair for what it is imo
Anything Arsenal is overpriced, that's a given.
>>
>>61580878
The M90 is mid. Once you throw some surp and a cleaning rod on it, it's almost 9 pounds dry. It also puts down mediocre groups which suck considering it has a 18" bull barrel.
>>
>>61580878
>>61580908
Y'all are forgetting how the SAM5s are designed to kill themselves. Unless you buy directly from KVAR (i.e. the most expensive place), you almost for certain have to send the gun back to have a gas restricter put in place. And the post 2021 receiver design will always be fucked up. The fact it's a commercial design really shows...
>>
>>61580811
Beryl is full of proprietary bullshit. It's cool, but I think I'd rather go with the M90 and save a few hundred bucks if I had to pick. The Beryl is also 1:9 twist vs the M90 that is 1:7 if that matters to you one way or the other.
>>
>>61580908
$1500 + tip for a stock rifle, add another 150-200 so you can use the goofy proprietary optics rail bc standard side rails made too much sense - and for that effort, you get a height over bore that's way worse than normal. Its main claim to fame is its pedigree - and you pay for it.

>>61580910
Have you actually shot one? My M90 is the most accurate AK I've ever shot and easily gets 3 MOA with the most dogshit ammo I give it.

>>61580964
Going from 1:9 to 1:7 isn't going to make much of a difference. If anything, you are optimizing for ammo that costs more and you won't shoot as often.
>>61580977
I have. Outside of the Beryl shooting Wolf like dildos, the Beryl outperformed the M90 in almost all loadings I could throw at it. Even gave the AR a run for its money in a couple loadings.
>>
>>61580348
AKs are not ARs.
PSA is building rifles to a price point, AKs are even more susceptible to poor(cheap) materials effecting the rifles longevity than the AR15.
>>
>>61581394
>AKs are even more susceptible to poor(cheap) materials effecting the rifles longevity than the AR15.
Interesting, i always had the perception that AK design was robust because the materials werent as important, just slap on any piece that fits and youre good to go.
>>
>>61581404
AK will go boom with cheap shit but wont last as long
>>
>>61581404
No, thats why PSA has been through 5 generations of AKs and still cant get it right.
The design is sound, but the economy of scale for cheap good trunions, carriers and bolts doesnt exist in the USA for AKs like it does for ARs.
Even a peice of shit draco is still made of better materials than PSA, even if the PSA has better fit and finish.

the AK isn't what people think it is. It is a cheap and robust gun from a MANUFACTURING standpoint, meaning that if you need a million billion rifles made, the AK's inherent design is both very good in the field but most importantly, very optimized for a lot being made for cheap. If you try to make AKs for cheap without a city sized production facility shipping 100k a day for some war effort, quality slips dramatically and it's becomes a less good rifle that isn't nearly as robust. Everything you think about the AK is really honestly more applicable to ARs these days, assuming you are using in spec parts which are honestly becoming harder and harder to find nowadays

Interesting results especially if the M90 got a fair shake. Did both Beryl and M90 have traditional furniture? My Beryl, despite a high round count (2K) gets better groups than most AKs.
62gr SS109 was originally designed by FN for the Army LMG trial with the specificity of penetrating soviet helmets at a certain range and nothing else. You should definitely try PPU 55gr and 62gr and report back
>>
>>61582480
The M90 had all surplus furniture. The Beryl had all the furniture that comes on it from AoA, but with a TWS dogleg. I will say that the M90 did have the cleaning rod on, so that could affect results: if the Beryl could accept one, I would have thrown it on (big sad).

To be honest, I will probably never test it with PPU loadings because the standard deviations in their 7.62x51 gave me a super hard time The Bery did seem to really like the Federal LE 62g softpoints (under 1.5 MOA), so 62g with a non steel core might be the ticket. For now, I like GGG: it's really fast for 223 and groups well for range ammo.
>>
>>61581404
Russia is very rich in resources and had access to high quality materials. The metallurgy had to be just right in order to produce rifles that lasted long enough without cracking or deforming. Also, the important components were hammer forged which just in itself shows that they were concerned with a rifles longetivity. The AK wasn’t at all a crudely and cheaply assembled rifle. Yes the tolerances are wider than, say, an AR. But that doesn’t mean it can just be produced and assembled halfassed. Just look at century arms and the RAS-47

Did you use the mount sold by Zastava USA? I think it's just rebranded UTG. A lot of people have said it's shit, and that Midwest Industries and Master Mount are better and lower.
>heavy as SHIT for what it is
>18" barrel on an AK + muzzle break made it feel way to long for an AK
It fills the niche left by the sporter Vepr 223 that were sold with 16" as well as retardedly long barrels. A heavy gun is not necessarily a bad thing if you're a compfag.
>>

>Did you use the mount sold by Zastava USA? I think it's just rebranded UTG. A lot of people have said it's shit, and that Midwest Industries and Master Mount are better and lower.
I did. I ordered the rifle, mount, 4 steel mags, and a muzzle break all in one go, and after shooting it a while I didn't feel like spending more money on it at that point so I sold it and bought something different.
>It fills the niche left by the sporter Vepr 223 that were sold with 16" as well as retardedly long barrels. A heavy gun is not necessarily a bad thing if you're a compfag.

Those steel M85 mags are heavy as shit too. As for height over bore, the wood buttstocks Zastava USA puts on their M70 and M90 have a low comb, because they're mimicking the AKM stock. The wooden buttstocks they use for the M77 have a higher comb because they're mimicking the old M76 stock. I wish they would just repro the M70 furniture in pic related, but fags complained too much about cheek slap back when Century was importing them.
>>
>>61586125
This anon is right on mounts for yugos: RS makes a nice low pro mount as well. TWS Bitty mounts are also a thing. Although compfags wouldn't like M90's: while weight and more velocity isn't always a bad thing, having it all out front like the M90 has it IS bad because it makes transitions harder.
>>61586179
I was basically in the same boat. Took one to a comp and it was so heavy it broke the rifle stand we had to use for one of the stages kek. After seeing the groups in >>61581057, I decided it wasn't worth sinking any more money into. I think they are cool as an RPK larp though. I would be interested to see what an M72 FSB + Bipod would look like on one.
>>
>>61586303
Those surp M70 stocks are also heavy AF lol. They have like a 3/4 foot long lag bolt running through the whole thing and the wood is very dense. It's quality, but shit man it's heavy like everything Zastava makes. There isn't much recoil on M90's to worry about cheekslap, but those stocks fucking suck on M77's: it will absolutely put a goose egg on your jaw after a couple mags.

Definitive Arms? They're still around, but I don't know if they still do the magwell conversions since the demand for them kind of dropped off after the Saiga and Vepr bans. I also remember the owner saying he didn't really want to do the conversions anymore on preban guns since it ruins the collector value of them.

*avoid their standard AKs, as in the GF3s. Sometimes you can see them for as low as $650, there’s a blem with green furniture for $630 right now, which is a good price. Someone shooting their guns? The audacity.

Nice. More to look forward at the end of the week.

lmao are you the kpyk reddit fag?
>>
>>61590407
Nah I like plain jane AK's. As far as I've gone is ak9 hg's and vertical grips.
>>
>>61561948
Technically not an AK, but does anyone have a recommendation for a folding stock for a VZ58?
>>
>>61568382
I recently bought a brand new PSA GF3 Ak103 and it came pre-rusted in several spots..
>>
>>61590490
All PSA’s are blem. Don’t you know that?
I think Columbia South Carolina is very humid, where their factory is. They should do a better job of coating their guns in grease before shipping out.
>>
>>61590757
>bought psa blem
>All PSA’s are blem. Don’t you know that?
I don’t understand this meme. If you bought the blem rifle for less than msrp, why comment all their rifles are blems? So, you’re getting what the rifle is actually worth. How is that a loss?

everything is fine and well, until you start shooting seriously, and then you find that every piece of furniture on the gun has to be replaced
goes for pretty much all rifles desu

If you're capable it'd be sick. Godspeed.

I changed my mind, I thought Dracos were dirt cheap nigger guns but they cost 1000 dollars for some reason
>>
>>61591201
>Draco's cost 1000 dollars for some reason
Because they are really popular and they have never really had any problems because they are imported as unmolested pistols instead of 922r U.S. modified rifles.

Yuuuuup. I knew it was something with the bolt because I had one of the üb training bolts and some blue ammo and it ran like a charm. Sold mine during the pandemic and actually came out on top.

Ukraine to Moldova or Romania has for years (even before the war) been a way which arms dealers use to smuggle weapons out.

You can buy the kits they use for dracos for 300$ on aoa
>>
>>61593251
typical akg poster is too retarded to assemble one, gonna have more into it then just buying a draco
>>
>>61591413
The micro is what I would need, anything longer has too long of a gas system to make room for the suppressor. It’s a retarded idea anyway lol

that would still be an awesome deal lmao

>>

How the fuck do you even get banned?
>>
>>61594684
*because, not but
>>
>>61594692
I logged on one day and it just showed a message that I was banned for being a scammer in the marketplace. I had probably 50 positive feedback, never saw any kind of message about trying to resolve anything, I hadn't even bought or sold anything on the marketplace for a month or more. Nails probably hadn't had a can of beans that day and I got banned while he was pissed off.
>>
>>61594799
Funny, I still have my falfiles account with the same name. I messaged Jen and asked about my akfiles account but I never got a reply. I only used it for the marketplace and deals are few and far between anymore so oh well.
>>
>>61593283
You're right, everything is impossible and we should all just give up, thanks doc.
>>
>>61594692
I changed my signature to "btw I'm trans if that matters" and the bigots just banned me. I guess it matters.

Yeah, you should give it up you dumb nigger. Buy a Cugir Draco and be done with it.
>>
>>61595417
This. Only buy guns if it involves filling out a form 4473 through an FFL. Never buy private sale or build ghost guns. If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear!
