I wish I was at touhou fest 2024
>>
>>46691670
me too, but if it makes you feel any better it's probably full of tourists and normalfags
>>
>>46691734
what exactly to you is a norm/tourist when it comes to touhou
>>
Seeing TAMusic live would have been bitching but beyond that I don't know what I'd do beyond just meander the hall.
>>
>>46692114
A norm is someone who just hanging out for the memes, I doubt they'd wast money going to a con to be honest. And a tourist is someone who thinks they can current-thing all over whatever they want, although they could have been true fans that've put their joy for the hobby aside for the jealous god that is politics.
>>
>>46692114
people who are new to the franchise and are very annoying about it, moralfags, miko trans faggots, leftist puritans who object to leading the touhou girls because it's "weird" or whatever etc
>>
>>46692344
>leftist puritans who object to leading the touhou girls
what does that even mean
>>
>>46692344
I think these people are imaginary and just live in your head

A mentality like this is why you have no friends
>>
>>46692387
>A mentality like this is why you have no friends
I have a close group of friends irl that I like hanging out with, one of which is a leftist.
I do not care, I just find some people of the people in the fandom annoying, and you do too, no doubt.
>>
>>46692387
No one who talks like this isn't one of those people. I know because I know several IRL.
They can't see why what they're doing is wrong, and cope by finding subtle fault in accurate descriptions of their annoying behavior and then using that to justify believing the description is completely wrong. No exaggeration or reduction is too minor.
For example, I'm going to go ahead and call you a trite, condescending, easily-offended twitterite. If you spend less than 2 hours a day on twitter, you'll say you aren't a twitterite, and therefore I just lied, therefore everything I just said is false. Having said something false in order to criticize leftists, and having been so wordy in doing so, I must therefore be an anrgy autistic incel chud, worthy of having my hobby invaded and destroyed by politically zombified neophytes.
These people definitely exist, but thankfully they only care about currently airing anime available on crunchyroll, unless a new Avengers movie just came out. You probably think I'm speaking in chariatures but that's because you aren't friends with several of them, because it's YOU who is the shut-in.
>>
>>46692387
>I think these people are imaginary and just live in your head
Either you're gaslighting or baiting.

holy fuck I can't wait for your kind to ACK or die from old age already. Being into a video game for 30 years is not something to brag about.
>>

>>
>>46695931
Nice strawman, nigger. You don't have to be a porn addict (these are annoying too) to be le true 2hu fan. But lockdown tourists who spam trains rights and cry about muh minor sexualization can go hang themselves. Same as supposed oldfags who piss and shit their pants every time they see loli stuff.
>>
there's a creepy incel forum user there who takes stealth pics of people who he thinks are "dysgenic"
>>

Its gonna be filled to the brim with trannies and zoomers who only discovered touhou around 2020-2021 from srpelo's animation.

I'm obviously not the poster you were replying to, but I've personally been in an online community where it was a bannable offence to claim that Miko is NOT trans because "it upsets the local transfolks".

Hilariously enough it was a community focused on 2hu porn and erotic RP.

Those sites provide a wholesoom, scientifically backed safespace for your kind. i.e. porn addicted degenerates who can't 1cc because their filthy, brown, atrophied hands are to busy owning transphobic Zionist bigoted antis and chuds on xitter
>>
It honestly wasnt even bad.
It seems like all of the "everyone in gensokyo is gay" and "miko/yuyuko are trans" crowd began appearing around late/early 2019, and it went overdrive during the pandemic.
>>
>>46696535
>Eiki is trans.

So, to anyone who attended.
Have the normies/tourists/secondaries ruined Touhou?
Is Touhou 'joever', or are 'we so back'?
>>
who do you think goes to conventions in the first place?
>>
>>46712078
50:50. There’s a fuckton of cringe and trannies walking around or preforming. But of the stalls there was only like 2 flags and 1 actually selling fagmerch, nobody was cheering for how stunning and brave anyone was, just for their great preformance, and everyone was more focused on just generally geeking out about Touhou and ignoring everything else. Even the generic anime stalls were practically ignored. So yeah there were normies and fags, but it felt like neutral ground where we could put shit aside to focus on the hobby like the good old days. 7/10 even my contrarian ass had fun.
>>
>>46712078
It wasn't many of that. They're were the cringe secondaries as mentioned like fumo fans and less knowledgeable ones as well but they were a small part of the presence there. There's alot of long time fans there like the dude who hosted Gensokyo Radio for 13+ years iirc, Gachimuchi fans, other such known reference material of older works / memes, and also to mention the ones with booths setup whether it be for game devs, music creation, artists merch they all had knowledge of old and have been in for awhile, + plus some of the con goers were likely in late 20s and 30s as well and I know maybe not the best example but they were there nonetheless.
TLDR: There's a small bit of normies / secondaries / zoomers but they were a small majority and made felt like it's integrity was still in place.
>>
>>46712548
Oh wait, I forgot to add that there were some that traveled really far, even outside of the US just to be there. The amount of fans there were was more on the smaller side of a regular anime con so In hindsight a lot of who went were actual there for Touhou. Plus if it's anything, the merch being sold at booths had extra stuff there from other media's, but the first things that went out was 2hu merch.

There's literally nothing wrong with crossplaying at a con, it's when you start forcing muh pronouns and cutting off your cock when there's a problem.
>>
>>46713702
no one said that there was something wrong with cosplaying. it's just that there are men who cosplay as female characters (which is what you'd expect from touhou), and then there are men trying to BE women. thankfully the latter group was pretty small and wasn't more of a nuisance than the average awkward nerd.

Really happy with the amount of English doujin comics that was available. I think it's just cool that they exist. Fan games and arranges, too.
All my favorite characters were represented as charms/keychains/pins/stickers.
Love the Sanae in a hoodie card; I have no idea what to do with it and I wasn't planning on getting it at first, but I couldn't get it out of my head.
Thinking of getting a photo album for the card and the stickers. What does everyone else do with their stickers?

I went on Saturday only cosplaying newsboy Aya. Though it's not a competition, I like to think I one-upped my fellow Ayas by actually handing out newspapers and Polaroid pictures, even if I only handed out like 15 of each.

Compared to other cons I've been to (which to be fair are only Anime Expo and the local cons in my city), this one seemed to have a higher incidence rate of autism. That, and it kinda felt like a convention for people who know each other on Twitter. I got a burger from the parking lot though so that was cool.

My flask was was half Sake, half Monster energy drink. I call it "The Yukari" because I feel like Yukari would definitely drink it too.

LOL nice. I had a bottle of soju on the way there and felt like it wasn't enough. Got halfway through a bottle of sake by itself then started to get a headache so I stopped (I don't weigh that much lol). That was the most I have drank so far and it actually made me more willing to initiate conversations with people since I'm regularly a hardcore introvert.
Next year I will definitely try to reach a point where I could feel comfortable doing stuff like you guys did without being a publicly intoxicated nuisance.

Gensokyo You Can! Moriya Shrine: The Gateway to Touhou Pilgrimage was amazing. It was a panel filled with information about travelling to Japan to visit the real Moriya Shrine, what prices would be like approximately, real-life history behind the shrine, their culture/traditions/lineage, what to see and do while there, and how the real-life history influenced ZUN's spell card designs in Mountain of Faith.

I didn't watch it live, but the "M-1 Grand Prix - translating on Lunatic" got recorded and it's pretty good. You can watch it here:
https://youtu.be/dp9P0XXba-Q
It brings up a lot of interesting examples of how and why they choose to translate certain jokes the way they did. A lot of details on their translation process for specific jokes, where they showed earlier versions of their translations and discuss how they iteratively improved on them.
It also has some rules of thumb for when it is OK to replace untranslatable jokes, when you have to Translation Note them, or just trust the viewer to known.
They also discuss aspects of making translations for an established franchise driven by fan translations, to avoid the pitfalls of calling youkai "ghouls" because the fandom has established standardized translations for certain concepts. This also means that they have to avoid using the word "incident" since that has a specific meaning to English Touhou fans.
I'm sure they cherry picked translation examples that they were proud of, but they definitely put a lot of thought into those particular translations, and their examples could well serve as inspiration for future translators.
>>

What is the likelihood of Touhoufest still being around in a few years? I want to go and take my whole family so we can all cosplay together, but some of my kids are way too little at the moment.
>>
>>46750348
I wouldn't be surprised if it stays. This and last year went great, next year is planned. Staff seem to be careful not to make the same mistake(s) as Touhoucon, so as long as they do that, it should be safe.
>bringing kids
I would be surprised, but I saw a lot of kids at reitaisai, so it isn't that weird anymore
>>
>>46750348
Like the other Anon said, things seem to be going well for them so far, so as of right now Touhoufest should in theory be around for a good while. But keep in mind that the ones organizing this event in the first place are Twitter types, and those people are prone to drama at the drop of a hat (on top of being massive drama queens). All it'd take would be the smallest disagreement between them and it'd all be over. I just hope that doesn't happen though, these past two events have been a lot of fun and have been a good excuse to visit LA again.

The one actually on top of running this event (Mikotan) is very focused on making Touhoufest as community-oriented as possible. I went this year and it was by far the best con I'd ever been to. For me, good conventions always have to be the ideal mix between enthusiast socializing, programming, and the actual flow of events. I've actually had conversation with a fair number of staff this year (even volunteered to help out at some point as a normal con-goer) and it seems they all share the same sentiment everyone else does: The con is good specifically because it strikes a healthy balance where everyone can get along and have a good time. It's the sort of focus that allowed MAGFest to remain as community-oriented as it was even after Covid, and what separates it from overly business-focused cons like Anime Expo. Also if it helps to know, I went last year and the pattern always seems to be that people who complain or fear something online always do a 180 for the actual event.

tl;dr I've personally met staff and I have tons of reasons to trust them and that this con will remain very good for years to come.
