In this picture: a tokamak style reactor. One big one is being built at ITER in france. It's pretty neat, an AI has been developed to control the plasma instabilities. I wish we could have big research Stellarators as well but one thing at a time I guess.A few years back I tried to build a home made electrostatic confinement fusion reactors but I couldn't get a good enough vacuum with the pump I had, I also couldn't find anywhere to buy deuterium. At the end it would be really expensive so I just gave upThe idea for tokamak's btw is the walls of the reactor get super hot, so hot they could boil water. What we see in the picture would be submerged in a pool of water that will be boiled in a commercial plant (it could also work by having coolant pipes running next to the walls to be heated, the water inside them turned into steam, but I lile the hot pool more)
