I ended up just going with an iplay 50 mini Pro NFE $160~170 on amazon and putting Mihon on it. G99 8G/256G, also handles emulation and video. The non Pro version is 90 bux but it's got some T606 SOC and 4G/64G

E-ink devices cost more than my phone, the color ones even more, and still have shitty colors, the ghosting some of the devices is pretty bad basically forcing you to do a full screen refresh every couple pages.
I don't get why these bottom of the barrel E-ink devices cost anywhere from 300 to over 800 bux, with super shitty specs, old android or some proprietary locked down DRM bullshit.

Most of those are basically software issues, you're trying the wrong ones. My 10" 2yo bw reader has android 11 and allows me to set refresh speed <=> quality individually per app, so I almost never have to manually refresh. And it cost $450.
