Im having some trouble unclogging my basement drain. I bought one of those auger tipped drain snakes, but can't make it in but a few inches. Also what's this square peg?
>>
>>2795248
unscrew that "square peg" and stick your snake in there.
>>
>>2795248
>>2795255
there is a very tight trap on the drain. unscrew the peg to get straight access to the drainline for snaking. put it back to avoid dying of sewer gas later.
>>
>>2795248
also if the water is going down fine but you can see the water in the hole that is the trap working as intended.
>>
Well there's your problem

Somebody put the square peg in the round hole

Well I got the plug out, rammed all 15 ft of my snake in and came across no obstruction.
There are two drains in my basement, so Im assuming it's the other one that's clogged (I tried this one first because it's not in standing water)
Unfortunately I can't easily get the plastic plug back in, and u don't have have rubber mallet ( and everywhere is closed) . What do? Beat on it with my wrench? I'll see if I have any luck with the other drain in the meantime

Oh fuggg D-:

No harm no foul. It's not under pressure and one of those caps is like $2

Clean the threads before you try putting in a new one tho
>>2795270
>I tried this one first because it's not in standing water

Well that should've been a pretty good indicator that it's the one that IS in standing water
>>
>>2795273
lol idiot go to the hardware store and get a new pvc end cap retard maybe clean the threads next time

Unfortunately nothing around me is open. I put some playdough in celephane wrap and plugged it shut, I think it's air tight. Will this be an adequate temporary solution?

Yes, this appears to be fine

Is this the new abomination thread?

sounds like you need a longer snake if you havent reached the obstruction yet with the 15 ft snake you have.
i had the same issue oone time and pretty myuch went through what your doing and eventyually i just called a plumber.
was only $250 +/- for the plumber to get the obstruction clear and he replaced a couple bad fittings and a segment of pipe.

uinless your prepared to go buy more roto rooter tools and up your own time and expenses, i'd just call a plumber.

Thanks

The plug didn't really unscrew per se; after about a quarter turn it literally flew out into the air. Further, I did take a brush to the threads before trying to screw it back in, but I still couldn't get it. This led me to believe it wasn't meant to really be screwed in. Maybe that makes me retarded. I'm just pretty new to diy shit.

Yeah that's what I'm going to do. Thanks for the help everyone

Have you tried plunging it? I would use one of those kinda flimsy sink plungers to maybe not blow anything out

use a marine plug

it's a piece of rubber sandwiched between to large washers, so when you tighten the bolt it expands the rubber

you can buy them in different sizes at menards
>>
>>2795819
the square plastic cap is the correct cap for the job. OP is a dipshit for smashing it is all, there is no reason to put the wrong piece in place.
>>
>>2795864
the threads are 100% gone on that floor drain
>>
>>2795865
what threads are you thinking about. find one in the archive and link pls

is this actually going to work? if not would he be able to smell the gases?
>>
>>2795819
This is a dumb suggestion. If he's going to go out an buy something there's no reason not to buy the correct part.
>>
>>2796113
Should be fine temporarily as long as there's water in the trap.
