Is it worth giving away your data so companies can post record profits just you can get that 50 cent discount on a big mac?
>>
>>20428092
What data is the McDonald's app stealing? You do understand how to set app permissions, right?
>>
>>20428097
The OP never once used the word "stealing"
>>
>>20428092
eh whatever, it's not like "my data" is precious to me anyway, they can have it I don't care.
>>
you act like they don't already have it.
>>
>>20428092
It's a humiliation ritual and you get a "discount" on your goyslop for conforming. Jewgle already has your marketing data and McDonald's can get it if they pay for it, but fast food franchises don't have access to your data unless you willingly give it to them by installing their app.
>>
>>20428103
this

what is so precious about your sad browser history anyway?

oh no they know where i ve been dining for the past 5 years literally 1984. shut up and deflate your ego

then why is data collection a 100 billion dollar industry?

because YOU consume their product. The data is worthless if you don't consume.

>Is it worth giving away your data
Oh fuck they're gonna see how many mcdoubles I eat a month. What am I gonna do bros they're gonna know
>>
On the day of the rope, they'll humiliate you by mentioning your fast food habits
>>
>>20428136
It's not individual people's data. It's thousands and millions of people's data all being put together to manipulate behavior.
>>
>>20428092
You eat fast food.
You already lack any sense of self preservation.
>>
I never gotten a clear answer besides made up boogymen bullshit
As far as I know, they just see how often you're on the app, what you order, etc.
What's stopping me from using some burner email and just not connecting a credit card (which Is a good idea because chipotle data leaks have gotten people burned)
>>
>>20428553
bruh just last month, I ordered something online from a local store chain that has a website, nothing fancy. Couple of weeks later I get an email from them saying they got hacked and all their customers data has been stolen, ya know stuff like adresses, postal codes, emails and phone numbers. Since then, I receive at least a couple of emails a day from all types of shit from obvious scam bait to loan websites. Shit's fucked mate.

The mcapp can access wifi api which lets them know which networks you connect to and which networks are in range, which gives them precise location and daily movement dats. They know where you work, they know where you live, they know if you are cheating on them with other chains. But don't worry about that.
Just get 365 burner phones, and you can get a free birthday cheeseburger every day of the year.
Ba da da ba ba.
Sheer brilliance.
>>
>>20428092
Apps are the least of your worries. They are already testing cameras in drive thrus that scan your license plate. You will be monitored and recorded every moment of your life. They will know where you travel, how far you travel and any activity outside of the expected norm will bring up a flag and you will be scrutinized.
>>
>>20428092
In my experience. I save about $2 on an order using mobile apps.
>>
>>20428097
I assume all they can harvest is what you order and where you get the food.
They can track where you order from if you give location permission.
>>
>>20428097
The McDonald's app is different than most other apps in that you have to install it as a navigation app. Usually only things like Waze are installed as navigation apps as it is a special category with baked in permissions that allows it to always be active in the background and always have access to the phone's location. For apps that you're using to navigate, these are desirable features so the app can continue to direct you while you have other apps in the foreground and also so it can always have a lock on your position instead of taking a few minutes to get its orientation when started.
For McDonald's they say it must be this way so that when picking up your order, it will immediately know that you're at the correct location. And of course so it can give you directions there. The side effect however is that the McDonald's app lets McDonald's keep track of your phone's location 24/7. What do they do with that information? Who knows but apparently they value it enough to give you discounts in exchange for you letting them collect it.
>>
>>20428661
>What do they do with that information?
Obviously sell it to social media and the government. The NSA uses it to build a more robust profile on every single american. If they know the regular actions of almost everyone it will be easy to spot when someone goes rogue. The ultimate goal being making it literally impossible for any natural uprising to occur because organized resistance will be spotted from the moment of its inception.
>>
>>20428661
I'm not phonecucked, so I'm going to have to hear why anybody would feel a need to have apps running in the foreground at the same time as following directions
>>
>>20428709
Music
>>
>>20428669
Yes, the government discovered an interesting little loophole with all these data collection apps. It's illegal for the government to spy on citizens without a warrant but the government is completely free to purchase any information companies have collected about citizens and use that to build dossiers on everyone.
>>
>>20428716
It seems to me that if you can't memorize directions you should be more interested in seeing a map than seeing how many seconds are left of your hiphop song, and you might even be better off without the distraction of any song at all, but ok.
>>
its worth it to me, i'm a hedonist
>>
>>20428092
I'm selling my data at 200 bucks per week and they (big companies) still make a profit.

they literally already have the data
their apps are just a boomer tax. old people dont want to bother downloading an app to order so they have to pay extra. I literally get 30% my order evertime at mcdonalds just for not being a simpleton
>>
>>20428536
So it's targeted marketing? That's not really new, whether you think it is or not.
>>
>>20429156
You most definitely are a simpleton whether you get 30% off or not.
>>
>>20429156
I think you join the arbitrary metric percentage of people who are more likely to shop at a certain restaurant by just having the app downloaded
>>
>>20429514
I eat at mcdonalds at least a couple of times a week because using the app I can get mcdoubles for a dollar just like the good old days. Can't get a better calorie to price ratio than that.

i've thought about using my older reformatted phones for food apps. but i don't want to be more of a fat ass than i already am.
>>
At Carrefour in Italy, there was this offer from Fanta at some vending machine, they gave you a free small can of Fanta, if you dowladed the app. Surprinsly lots of people were there, which is weird.
Its just some soda ffs.
>>
>>20429786
Yes I know how it is done but you have to allow apps to do it. You claimed it's installed as a nav app and that is just plain false. Do I really need to take a picture of my McDonald's apps permission screen? Mine does not have location turned on, I have to allow it in app if I am going to pick up a meal.

Why are you lying?
>>
>>20429961
You're both kinda right, because apps don't need location permission to locate you.
The McDonald's app has "View WiFi connections" permission, along with connect/disconnect WiFi permission.
They can see which WiFi networks you connect to, and which WiFi networks are in range. With only a couple of unique essid/bssid pairs, they can geolocate you by querying a global wifi name+mac address network map, that was created by Google, for this exact purpose (fine location, without gps.)
The app also can see what other apps you use and monitor network traffic. Also it runs at startup, even if you never use it.
Grimace?

If you don't eat fast food at all then fine, but if you're eating fast food and not taking advantage of the deals on the app you're a complete retard

no retard. the other guy is right, my economics teacher literally talked about Big Data and why this is a problem lol. their using YOUR data, and making BIG bucks off it. Its like a new gold rush

imagine eating fast food this often lol. I'd rather use the coupons you get in the mail. Idk what they do now, but when i worked at burger king you got mailed coupon sheets. the coupon has a code you punch into the computer. You could just memorize the code and say it too, and keep the coupon, but my coworkers got bent out of shape about ""they have to have a real coupon and you have to take it from them!11!"" like shut the fuck up you fucking philipinos i dont care. laminate your coupon for all i care (iirc i think there was a guy who actually did that for a meal combo that was really old but we still honoured for some reason). but yeah it would be the same coupon as is in the app. I really think people should have two phones, one burner for this kind of crap and then their real phone. if only that would actually work

Very nice reductionism. If they could harvest people's thoughts, you'd defend the practice.
