Shorter wheelbase is more turny and easier to hold mannies I think. Seems like 99% of people like shorter wheelbase. Look up Ben degros wheelbase on YouTube.
>>
>>12842449
>shorter = tighter turns, smaller but faster responsive pops
>longer = wide turns, bigger pops but might make the deck feel steeper
Trucks also can change the length but who cares, it's all personal preference and feel as skill can make up for what lacks.

What’s the smallest board size I can actually run with Indy 169s? I measured length from wheel to wheel running surface (not axle) and it works out at about 8.5”, does that mean it would work?

I’ve ran 8” 139 trucks on 7.75” before and it’s arguably a better fit than 7.6” 129 trucks in terms of stability etc.

1. Skater is now fine. He had a concussion, recovered to the point of lucidity after about an hour and then drove himself home. He still skates helmetless
2.dog loved skateboards, he has his own board and pushes it around. He also sprints laps around the ramp when we skate it. When we would push from the ramp to the local swimming hole, dog would chase after us
3. The cage was already sitting there, perfect stall height. This wasn't set upthis
4. After first try doggy ran into the cage to jump up. He wanted to be there
5. Dogs not abused. He has it made. He has huge private wooded property to run around on and explore. He has it better than most apartment german sheppards. He spends every day sprinting through the woods, digging holes and swimming in the creek. Can't say that for most dogs.

This ramp is cursed. This is where I shattered my elbow a week later. The same day that I shattered my elbow, the owner fully tore his ACL requiring two surgeries. It was downsized once and was still terrifying. Owner had a kid and downsize it again to a babby mini ramp. Pic related is me, guy who got knocked out and owner about an hour before the KO. Owner Is inverting and KO guy is right holding flag. I am left

Eh you're probably right. I'm sure that is some permanent damage. To my understanding though, shitloads of small concussions is worse than one big one. So on that front he's doing better than a boxer or football player as a serious head injury riding a skateboard is a once in 10 years event for most people.

Generic knock off will be totally fine for a beginner minus one component: bearings. Id switch them out with a pro set. The difference is unbelievable. With those generic walmart boards, the bearings are so bad you will slow to a stop even on a hill. It is extremely frustrating and makes skateboarding much more difficult even for those who have been doing it for years.

>>
>>12848857
Extremely low. Even for people who have been skating 20 years some have never seen the inside of an ER. You have to get really unlucky to get bodied that bad on flat ground. You should worry more about being hit by a car, fatal pedestrian car crashes happen all the fucking time. Skateboarding injuries very very rarely result in death and when they do it's a freak accident. Your odds of actually breaking something and needing surgery/hospital stay are also extremely low. I mean think about it. If someone skates Evey day for years and never once breaks something that makes catastrophic injury a 1/3000+ event. Much more likely is banging your shin hard as fuck and wanting to scream out in pain for 30 seconds then it goes away. Or getting scrapes on your palms that hurt when you wash your hands. Or getting small bruises on your heels that cause you to limp for a day or two. Or spraining your ankle and needing to take a week off skateboarding to heal up. Or getting a hip bruise that makes sleeping kinda uncomfortable. These injuries are pretty common. I strongly recommend you wear a helmet. If it doesn't annoy you on your head and makes you feel safe, you should absolutely wear one. There is nothing hesh gnar about CTE. Those that don't usually have their own reasons and accept the risk involved, it's a personal choice but it's a choice that absolutely has a right answer.

Since we're sharing. I've gotten 3 concussions in the past 3 years :\
One of which was severe enough where I had to go to the hospital and get my brain scanned and stayed there for a couple of days. And even after it was a month in bed because I felt so weird and sick.
I'm just saying. It's not common but it can happen. If you want to wear a helmet by all means put it on. I do when I skate transition now. The rest of my time I skate flatground and little ledges and thankfully that'll only get you a scuffed knee.

There are still freestyle board makers, like decomposed and never enough skateboards among other brands. Even if you don't want to order online, you may or may not find a freestyle deck reissue from Powell Peralta, but the real deal is getting the proper gear for that deck, which means cushionless trucks, wide, hollow wheels, skid plates and not forgetting to grip the underside of your nose and tail.

Freestyle is a disciplined discipline.

Yes yeah, I had a question about the ultimate late 90’s/early 2000’s board setup >>12835028
I know
Nothing about these trucks or wheel diameter. Can someone tell me about the advantages, and disadvantages of having this setup? Are there any, or is it just purely aesthetics?
>>
>>12850708
Personal preference. People will tell you you're supposed to get this setup or that setup according to your style, but it's horse shit. People tre flip 14 stairs on 8.75inch boards w 169 Indy's and rails because it feels best to them. People do huge backside airs on 7.5 boards too. Eric winkoski will 5050 a fuckin 30 stair handrail on 64mm wheels and a 9in fishtail w a fuckin skid plate on the tail. It doesn't matter. Generally speaking, bigger boards whes and trucks are for tranny skating and skinnier boards wheels and trucks are for street. A 7in board is small. A 8-8.5 is medium. 8.875+ is big. 49mm is small wheel. 52-55mm is medium. 56 is large and 60+ is for cruising. Truck companies have their own measurement systems but your truck width should match your board width, But who gives a shit. If you feel like your setup is tiny go up a size. If it feels big go down. If it feels just right then you got it skate that. It's super simple. This shit isnt sports, there is no right and wrong. I feel best on a 9 and 169s w risers because I'm clumsy as fuck and need a boat sized skateboard so every time I land, I have a higher chance of landing on something. Feels like I'm more in control. Others find a big board heavy and awkward. To each their own

I think learning freestyle is probably pretty easy because girls gravitate towards it (like transition). good luck.

dave bachinsky kickflipped el toro on a 7.5

>advantages
small boards are easier to spin & flip, the might also be easier to pop high although kick steepnness and other factors play into that as well.
>disadvantages
less board area means less stability, having to catch a smaller board in the air, into rails etc. it is also easier to overflip depending on how much power you like to put into your flick. right now i'm going between a 7.75 skateboard and an 8.75 snowskate and having to readjust to avoid over/underflipping is probably the most noticeable difference.
i've only ever ridden low trucks and small wheels so i can't really compare them to anything else
if you really need an accurate setup for that era, go one ebay to find a board that was actually made over that period. the small boards you buy now are not the same, they almost universally have mellower concave and are less stiff (although i have heard chapman/ southcentral boards are pretty stiff) you will also be paying out the ass though. the next best option would probably be https://canadaskateshop.com/product/7-75-blank-skateboard-deck-bens-favourite-90s-shape/
you wont have the aesthetics but the board shape will at least be similar. if aesthetics are the most important thing but you need a budget option, https://drkrminc.com is don pendleton's new company. he did pretty much all the 2000's era aws graphics.

What did the late 90’s/early 2000’s shape look like?
>>
>>12855408
np. as long as you buy your parts or complete from a skate shop or decent online retailer (CCS, Skate Warehouse, Tactics, or even Z____), then you will end up with a legit setup.

this is probably the best example i can find offhand.
gl fren i hope you find a board that satisfies your autism.
>>
>>12854945
the standards on a board are indie trucks which are like 22 bucks EACH and you need 2, bones reds which are like 17 bucks, and spirfire 99s which are like 40 bucks for a set
thats $100 right there
from then deck price varies but the cheapest it can get is like a mini logo deck like 30 bucks if youve got no style
the rest is assorted, grip tape, hardware, and a skate tool to put it all together can run you a bit but not nearly as much as the bigger pieces

you get what you pay for though if you want to roll the cheap shit dont expect it to last
at least when it comes to the shit with a mechanical purpose, so your bearings, wheels, and trucks are what you want to shell your big bucks on
the deck is important but the only reason some are more expensive than others is the graphics and brand

you could always just get a complete though, those usually come way cheaper than assembling something yourself but you wont get to mix and match parts

Very low for most skaters. If you're a beginner, ask yourself if you are an active type who picks up new physical activities relatively easily. If the answer is no, it's slightly more likely that you will have an uncoordinated unlucky slam. Odds are still very low but if you have something to lose, you might as well get a helmet unless you can find a reason not to. Triple8 certified sweatsaver is comfortable enough that you'll forget you're wearing it after a few minutes.
>>
>>12857129
If you make a living working with your hands then I'd recommend wrist guards. If you're just learning, the single most likely injury is bruising your wrist because you fall on it.

>>
>>12861739
90's was the peak of small setups for tech shit. things have gradually crept up ever since. boards kind of stayed in the same 7-7.75 range with some shape minor changes. wheels are probably the biggest difference.
>>
>>12861804

Have you ever skated before? Not being patronizing, but 40mm is unbelievably small. It's impractical. 49mm is considered a small wheel and was a common size 25 years ago. No need to get a mini board setup when that's not what you're shooting for

It's fine ish as long as your wheels aren't making tracks. Watch other skaters and check for tracks left by their wheels. Once you make tracks on any surface, it means the rotational friction is no longer enough to dry your wheels off and they are now wet, and a bad slam is near inevitable

>>12868488

the story is gay as fuck, the dudes are REALLY gay as fuck, the le unique boards each rider uses are gay as fuck, the "speed" tricks they use are gay as fuck, and the locations are gay as fuck

BUT when they get to downtime parts of just hanging out and learning to skate there are some cool animations for standard tricks just casually tossed in and some cool graphics that would look sweet on real boards
you just gotta wait out the stupid parts where they go to their race course where dumb shit like the duct tape skating, ripstik board, and computer board, oh yeah and the "love hug"

to be real its not a "skaters anime" per se but theres some interesting stuff here to like

switch is really a mental thing desu. once you get past that barrier of it feeling 'wrong' it's really not that bad. this is easier said than done though when you're going fast it's very hard to get over that reflex to revert or put your foot down.
i've been starting my sessions working on switch 50s and switch dropins and it's helping a lot. bombing hills switch is helping too. the most awkward thing is trying to run at something and throw down switch.
