Cumulatively, I think it's taken me three hours to figure out how to make my file explorer open files in a new Emacs tab ("buffer") rather than window ("frame"). This isn't entirely Emacs' fault. It's also to blame on my lack of understanding of standard Linux syntax and not really knowing how my desktop environment works. That said, it doesn't help that Emacs provides so many relevant-but-wrong options. It gives you many false paths that you can travel very far down.
