Even without that source of income, she's still a talented seamstress, which should be more than enough to sustain herself. Of course there's also the matter of the guilt she felt (which is probably the real reason she wanted a way out), but that's something she could hopefully work out in time, especially with SB being there and clean. It's not what happened in the fic, but I don't think it was impossible.
