I'm fairly neutral on dubs, but a big part of SEED's charm is it's big name, all-star voice cast. So, watching it dubbed just doesn't seem like a fun option to me.

I am sorta nostalgic for the old Ocean Group SEED dub. Surfer dude-sounding Kira and surprisingly awesome Rau always stick out to me.

Sure, the NYAV Post cast is now just 98% of it because people did not like Remaster Shinn's dub voice, but it doesn't change the fact that English dubs are insistent on using "fresh talent" every time, leaving little to no opportunities for older talent to return, even if cast as someone else. For one matter, Michael Adamthwaite, now known under his new stage name Mark P. Whitten, is still highly active to this day and keeping up with these new talent, but people would still want him as Yzak, which may not happen here.

Honorifics are always a bit odd to localise. "Mr Kira" works as a literal translation, but doesn't feel right. I guess Shinn referring to Kira as "sir" might be better, but then could cause issues in other parts of the script if you're not consistent. Or you could just do what Persona does and leave the honorifics as is, because most of your target audience are probably weebs anyway.

I think the breaking point was Durandal's name actually since their Volume 1 of Destiny's manga used Dullindal but come Volume 2, they had a huge multi-page write up about the terminology they used and would be using going forward, Dullindal/Durandal being the big one.

We (the ones who went to the 7pm screening) basically got fucking jebaited by Cineplex aka our local theatre chain, I will just copy and paste what happened from the other thread:

This was know before, Bandai decided that going forward they don't want to change names that appeared in English in the series OP sequences so the some names in the official subs are outdated now. Dullindal, Jule, Elthman, Amalfi, Stellar will be the official international spellings now.

In fact, the french translator, who is an huge gundam fan for more than 20 years, did a little interview about it, and he really wanted to avoid doing errors like that.
Hell, the sub even kept Athrun french name from the old english dub. Here, he's named "Asran" (Originally it was a mistranslation of his name in the original french dub, but they kept it since it became iconic here)

So it's not something Bandai asked, it's just the translator being shit.

Adding to what >>22619405 said, the katakana is "ラクス", which is pronounced as "Rakusu". As for me, I just assumed the pronunciation to be "Lah-cus".

Duval's in LA and has been for a while. Probably easier to get in touch with him than anybody because we know they never approached any of the Canadian older cast in the first place for the redub according to Hill himself back in 2018. Plus the dub was probably made rather quickly. Never intended to see the dub but my theater fucked up the showings. At least we got free tickets for the proper subbed showing.

According to Luna's VA at the NY premiere she recorded all her lines in one sitting in late February, and most of the dub was done by then so I assume most characters were the same since a lot of the dialogue is just Kira and Lacus. I guess Sunrise gave them a short time to pull off this dub considering the premiere would be a month later.
