Germany had a combined Catholic-Lutheran translation project that involved experts working on the oldest source materials that were archaeolically available from all German speaking countries (including language minorities like the German speaking Belgians). It was called "Einheitsübersetzung" or "unified translation". The publisher Herder printed a heavily indexed and cross-referenced with a great appendix that included historical maps of the regions and information about Biblical times, like how much a shekel weighed, how long a cubit was etc. etc.It's not in English, but I can recommend it.
