Is it about the devil?
Is the devil currently in chains and can't rule the world?

Selling his soul and realizing how stupid he was for it because his time at the top was over.

I think this is correct but in a metaphorical sense but the song seems to be about Napoleon.

The cover is that it's about napoleon or some other french person. The truth is probably that it is about the devil or some kind of blasphemy.

The part about roman choirs singing and saint peter not calling, indicates devil.

More that Napoleon called himself a "Roman Emperor" in 1810, likely likening himself to Charlemagne. Plus his penchant for golden laurels and Roman architecture.
The "Roman cavalry choir" which was never a thing, is singing in his own head. It's self-aggrandizement.
Saint Peter isn't calling his name because he wasn't a good dude. Like the rest of the song says, he's coming to terms with the fact that his empire is transient and dying. He's not the glorious infallible emperor he thought he was.

It's about Hitler

The reason this is posted on x isn't because it assumes the narrative that coldplay wrote a song about napoleon.

The point is that there is a theory that most entertainers at a certain level are satanists and use their music to spread their dumb religion and they make songs about evil. Then when asked about it they say "nuh uh it's about napoleon." So napoleon is the cover for their lie. The real meaning is more sinister.

So if you look at it through this theory then you might be able to find the meaning.

Keep in mind Jerusalem bells ringing, roman cavalry singing could be in reference to the The Crucifixion.

It's about the Darkside being able to exist because they are given the permission to exist. Think about it like if the light were to end darkness entirely, than how would they know the difference between good an evil?

There, I have said and done what is necessary. The one that is prophecies to be Glorified for Ever is about to emerge from his cocoon. The One is AWESOME!

basically a zoomer version of the rolling stones song sympathy for the devil just that it's less obvious
1. "obviously it's not about the devil"
2. "even if it were about the devil it's not like the song is evil or something"
3. "the song being about the devil isn't necessarily bad"
4. "the song is about the devil and here is why that's a great thing"
