Why don't local police departments have paranormal divisions? Why do people have to rely solely on the private sector or the FBI to handle paranormal activities? I tried calling the police to tell them there was a ghost in my house and they told me to stop calling them.

they do. they're super secret and only handle real shit, like homeless vampires and escaped werewolf experiments. they have memory wipers like the MIB, so their existence is kept mythical at best.
