That was planned but nothing was ever actually done, so we'll never know anything about it.

It was, but it got scrapped early on in favor of developing for the Dreamcast. Sonic Jam's 3D world was made with the same engine.

I don't understand the obsession here. Most of these are just unfinished buggu games. They probably run horribly, or have terribly down graded graphics like Shenmue on Saturn. All you would get is a barely working game with fps issues that maybe has one working level for demo purposes. It would be very incomplete.

Any of Nintendo's tech demos, such as Mario 128, would be cool. But I'm gonna assume every piece of code Nintendo has ever made is strictly and privately company property, and must never be released. Even non-existent curiosities like Metroid 64 would be very interesting, assuming literally any demo or pitch was written for that.

thanks to the gigaleak we know the exact length of Mario 64's development, so a 1994 build should be out there somewhere
would likely be extremely basic and probably wouldn't even work on consumer N64 hardware(which wasn't finalized until circa mid-1995)

Am I going crazy or was there a time when ALttP used to be hailed as 'da greatest gaym of all time' instead of OoT? Normalfags nowadays don't talk about ALttP much in general, you only see it in 'best SNES games' lists and that's it

I feel like it would be literally the same game with slightly worse textures. Sort of how there's Winback on the N64 but also the PS2

Because Nintendo didn't appear to let publications heavily preview the game, or if they did, they didn't allow them to publish too much in the way of screenshots. That YOSSY ISLAND build that came from the hack was fairly well developed and presentable (albeit with many differences from the final game), but as far as I know, no magazine ever published screenshots which coincided with anything close to those earlier builds. Some companies would send out early build cartridges for magazines and even shops to demonstrate, which is how a lot of prototypes find their way into the wild, but it doesn't seem that Nintendo engaged as heavily in this practice as some other companies, or of they did, they were very strict about having things returned. There's not a lot of early Nintendo prototypes out there, and the ones which are somewhat notably prefinal seem to have originated from somebody close to Nintendo. Most other prototypes which appear to have been sent out of the company have either been final or 95%+ final.

Nintendo used to get fucked over by people copying their ideas and shitting out half baked knockoffs faster than Miyamoto's perfectionism would allow Nintendo to release their superior version. They learned to not overshare about what they had going on in the labs.

Kirby GCN is actually 3* entirely different games. Return to Dream Land was the fourth attempt at a post-64 console Kirby. HAL could totally pull a Shantae Advance and release that when 'we all know' that became the DSi one.
*actually most likely 2, the 3rd is believed to have been developed for Wii.

So there was a beta version of F-Zero X that got dumped, but the cart itself was twice as large as F-Zero X is. That's because the cart was originally used for the Ocarina of Time Spaceworld demo and they just wrote over it with the F-Zero X beta. But that meant that half of the cart still had Ocarina of Time assets, code, and maps. It would be nice to have a complete demo someday.

Return to Dreamland/Star Allies and Forgotten Land, we're missing the pop-up book inspired one unless that somehow ties into Epic Yarn
>>
>>10912038
I doubt this will ever turn up. Doesn't seem like it was ever sent out to the press or used at tradeshows, the screenshots appear to just be things that Capcom sent out.
>>
>>10912571
Epic Yarn was a totally unrelated game that got the Starfox Adventures treatment, and had a known IP slapped on it to sell copies.
>>
>>10912038
I'm fairly certain that's just a mockup and not an actual prototype screenshot.
>>

>All you would get is a barely working game with fps issues that maybe has one working level for demo purposes. It would be very incomplete.
The footage that exists out there of Shenmue on the Saturn takes in the entire first and second games, from the opening cutscene to the very end of Shenmue 2 in the mountains with Shenhua, with plenty of stuff in-between covering major events from both games (including wandering around the inside of buildings in Kowloon). And that's just what was officially released alongside Shenmue 2 as a bonus, so they'd have never have included anything beyond the end of Dreamcast Shenmue 2 even if it existed.

Virtua Fighter 3 was also in development for the Saturn before being moved to the Dreamcast, but there's no footage of that. Just accounts from people who got to see it.

>>
>>10915263
No, that was an earlier build. You can see it in the V-Jump 1994 presentation.

Crazy thing about Chrono Trigger is that there was an entirely different version that was apparently mostly complete before that which Sakaguchi entrusted to somebody else(because he was busy with other projects).

Torishima didn’t like that version but he didn’t have the heart to put down the guy so he took the floppy and was on his way to showing it to Toriyama, and just as he was about to knock on Toriyama’s door Sakaguchi called him on his phone and told him ’’That stuff is no good, don’t show it to Toriyama. We will start over from scratch’’.

This version I’m talking about is earlier than the earliest previews you can find on Chrono Compendium. It’s never been shown to the public.

BTW speaking of Chrono Trigger... there was a 1996 tralier for Chrono Trigger 2 but who knows who has it anymore.
This was the Project Noah/Proto-Xenogears stuff, before Sakaguchi gave them permission to drop it in favor of Xenogears presumably.
