Mine is likely this: Aura's Lucario ex. It was in a theme deck released around/during the Lucario movie in Japan, and despite how easy it must've been to get back then I don't see this card posted much if ever any more.

Lately there are a few different cards that sellers have tried to buy out and pump, especially in Temporal Forces. I'd imagine it's a victim of that, though I suppose it is also possible that some youtuber featured it or something.

Honestly I feel like it always should have been more expensive than it was. I like Moonbreon a lot, but the V is so much cooler.

How does your favorite Pokemon fare in the TCG? By this I mean, how many cards does it have? Do you like the one(s) it does have?

For being a Pokemon most people are indifferent to, Noivern keeps managing to appear in the video games and TCG. With Legends ZA next year, Kalos is back on the menu and thus even more Noivern! Someone on the design team must like Noivern too, considering how often it shows up despite its middle of the pack popularity.

I'm pretty pleased with the cards it has received so far and I'm greedily hoping for another alt art of it, but I would be very much okay with Noibat getting the IR treatment next!

Hey anons, not sure if this is the right thread for this but I have a question that’s been bothering me for awhile. I recently got back into the hobby and after dropping about two grand on products I had a giant stack of code cards for the online game so I decided to redeem them and learn how to play. While doing so I have seen random people on the internet (mostly youtubers) say that the game sucks now because they switched to TCG Live and somehow that ruined things or made things worse. Can someone please explain that to me? How is it worse than before? The only thing that bothers me is there is no in game chat so I can talk to my opponent just stupid emotes but that’s par the course for Nintendo and most of the gaming industry these days.

Anyway thank you to anyone for answering. In return here’s a code card. I have a huge stack still so I don’t mind sharing.

For gameplay discussion >>55726555 is the general for (You).

The gist about the TCG Live hate is that despite being the replacement for TCG Online (the former client for over 10 years), Live has been very buggy and lacks features that the former had, while also nuking your card collection from those years. A perfect storm of unappealing things for most people, and even more so for long time players.

Is it worth spending $40 more on a psa 10 over a 9? I'm looking at both cards here and I genuinely can't see a difference.

>>
>>55747706
If you only care about the card itself, no. The difference between a 9 and a 10 is completely negligible and often arguably random. A 9 will still get you a reasonably pristine card that might even be considered a 10 if it had been submitted when the grader was having a better day.

However, if you care about the slab+card as a collectible entity in itself; yes. While the difference of the card itself may be negligible, the fact is that a 10 is still difficult to get and as such a 10 slab carries a certain level of prestige. It makes a more impressive collectible piece than a 9. I have no interest in collecting slabs, but if it were me I'd probably spring for the 10 in your particular scenario. 40 bucks doesn't seem like too huge of a price difference so I'd rather just go big if I were spending money on something like that.
>>
>>55747706
If it's a $40 difference, and you like the card, and will be keeping it slabbed, then it's worth it to get the psa10. You'll kick yourself later for not spending the small $40 fee to get a "perfect" card.
>>
>>55747861
Honestly, this is more rare than a 10. Really should up its value.

Pretty well, but it also gets the Kanto bonus and the "related to Pikachu" bonus. Notably it got me into actually playing the game. I went to a tourney with a friend purely to try and trade with the players, and saw someone using Raichu V in their Miraidon deck. Finding out it was viable tipped me in favor of building my first deck and it's been an essential component ever since. While it's disappointing that it never got an alt art in the SwSh era, at least it got a cute IR in Paldea Evolved. Technically I can't say for sure Raichu is my favorite though as it's more or less tied with Reuniclus. Luckily Temporal Forces FINALLY delivered on a nice card for the blobby boi, although it's not competitively viable.

Always surprised by Noivern's middling popularity. It's a cool dragon and easily my favorite Kalos-mon. Glad it keeps getting stellar cards and I hope its fringe viability is enough to get it some sort of SIR reprint in a later special set.

My first time spending so much on a card and I had slight buyers remorse. There's another card I REALLY want that would cost $80 but that would probably open the floodgates to buy more expensive cards.
>inb4 not pokemon related
I guess my pokemon grail would be dawn full art but I don't want to spend triple digits for one card. Did anyone else have this experience when first buying expensive cards? For reference I'm a neet but I also collect other things not just cards.
>>
>>55746570
they nuked everyones collections? thats fucked up
>>
>>55750507
If you can responsibly afford it, sure. I've probably bought around 15-20 cards over $100. One of my most expensive was probably the Erika's Hospitality from Tag All Stars for $190 a couple years ago. I think my Japanese shiny Umbreon GX was about $200.
>>
>>55750649
Would you say trading up for a card you want more is a good idea at like conventions? I know sellers usually give like 75% of the cards value so it doesn't seem that bad to me
>>
>>55750709
Sure. I've mostly only bought on eBay and sold only to local game stores. The game stores certainly won't pay you as much as they're worth. I've never been to a con. About ten years ago, I was trying for a master set of every English card and was planning to go to Nationals as a spectator eventually, but never made it.
>>
>>55746570
TCG online was fucking amazing, I'd even play it today, I'm not even joking. I don't know why they chose to replace it with that abomination instead of adding in the p2w elements.

the IRs and SIRs have a sleek, timeless design that will age very well imo. I personally don't INVOOST in cards, so I don't really care what the value is going to be 10 years from now, I just collect the cards I like. that being said, I think it is very hard for people (especially here) to imagine that there will come a time when these are not all readily available for low prices. people got accustomed to swsh era chase cards that were worth insanely inflated prices months after release, and that is the standard they are using to judge more normal market conditions. Kanto mons and other popular ones like gardevoir will absolutely be highly sought after.

I'm of two minds about Venomoth's TCG fare. On one hand, I am grateful that it's an unpopular Pokémon whose cards can be easily and cheaply obtained. On the other, I would really like to see an SIR or even a regular old ex card sometime. However, Venomoth GX is a pretty cool and good-looking card, and it's more than what some mons have, so I'm not gonna complain too much.

Corphish seems to be doing okay recently.
He showed up in a few SWSH sets and will be in Twilight Masquerade as well as a full art trainer card, but like other anons have stated, an illustration rare is what we really want.
If I can get an IR focusing on Corphish/Crawdaunt but featured a whole bunch of other crab and lobster pokemon that'd be really cool

>>55746413
just came back to collecting recently and also learned they made a new TCG client?(idk if thats the correct term).
Briefly looking into it, looks like they switched developers hence why they couldn't port over anything from the previous one and all the older card sets have to be reintroduced.

Who knows why they made the switch, my problem is they had the opportunity to revamp the whole thing to make it a much better experience but the whole new design seems bland and kind of stale.
I get that they were going with a kind of sleek and futureproof design but it also goes the way of not being really memorable and just kind of plain.

Obviously, it also has to do with it being required to run on mobile as well but still, I'd expect more out of it considering its their one and only way to play the TCG digitally.
since its Pokemon naturally they'd expect ppl to flock to it regardless.

the introduction of IRs and SIRs (along with some of the gallery cards at the end of the SWSH era) is what got me back into collecting after like 20+ years and half a lifetime being away from it (151 being boomer bait probably helped too). it's the combination of great art and affordable prices that's really hitting the sweet spot for me (unlike the ridiculous chase cards from swsh, which admittedly some do look very nice). getting cards like pic related for a few bucks seems like such insane value to me that my hunter gatherer brain goes into overdrive collecting.

If hit with direct sunlight, it'll show signs earlier than if under indirect light/sunlight.

People usually use magnetic cases when they display cards on desks or shelves.
Binder (the non ringed kind) will always be the safest way to store your cards though.

sometimes, the artists who do the trainers like >>55757866 are very restrained on what they can do, sometimes insulting to what they can actually do. En Morikura is known for her beautiful artworks and her TCG illustrations don't do them justice.
>>
>>55769240
Indirect sunlight will not cause your cards to fade (especially if they're modern). And if they're in a one-touch magnetic case that says UV protection/resistant, then you'll be good even with direct sunlight. So if they're under indirect sunlight, you'll be fine regardless of their casing.

Don't get too caught up with the autism. It's not something to get too worried about.
>>
>>55769676
Test this and see for yourself
>>

I have. And you can find multiple videos of people testing it themselves. Indirect sunlight will do nothing. If you have UV resistant cases, indirect sunlight will do nothing.
>>

>Binder (the non ringed kind) will always be the safest way to store your cards though.
It is very important that you never display or enjoy your cards in any way. Even opening the binder to observe them can have adverse side effects the likes of which your collection may never recover. I seriously hope you guys aren't looking at your cards.
>>
maybe this is a stupid question, but why don't we just get the same sets at the same time as Japan?
>>
>>55769889
This is a scientific impossibility and massive cope.
>>
>>55770686
It's not a stupid question and there isn't really a proper answer. Japan has more frequent releases of smaller sets, whereas we have slightly less frequent release of large combined sets. Maybe the market is that much larger in Japan that they can support such frequent releases.

Also, imagine how crazy the secondary market prices would be for english if sets were only in stores for a couple weeks before the next set was released?
>>
>>55770686
Takes time to translate. They also get several smaller sets whereas our sets are their smaller sets combined into a larger set and it'd be weird to change that for either side.

Were they cards or just boxes? I've never heard of stores putting cards in the windows facing outside.

Never heard anyone ever talk about Chinese versions.
>>
>>55775414
Traditional chinese cards are very very low quality, but as long as you solely care for the artwork and keep it in a binder it shouldnt too big of a deal. Maybe one day the battle day cards will be released in simplified chinese and have the exact same texturing as the jp ones.
>>
>>55772696
i am biased against them because they remove the evolution mechanic foundational to the entire franchise. as others said, it also sucks that many of them are uninspired cg slop. you'd think if they have the entire card to work with they'd want to get artists to put something interesting there. dunno, the whole V/VMAX/etc never really felt like pokemon to me.

I have a binder of Base, Jungle, Fossil, and the first 5 Black Star Promos, basically an unlimited binder of the 1999 cards.

Should I add the miscellaneous promo variants?

(E3 Pikachu, Poketour Pikachu, Prerelease Clefable, Gold Border Meowth, W Stamp Kabuto)

I know there's also a W Stamp Jungle Pikachu and Prerelease Aerodactyl. But I feel like they belong to the first edition binder since theyre 1st edition stamped.

What about Grey Star Promo Pikachu & Jigglypuff?

I'm also considering the theme deck "Questions?" insert card and the "Catch Mew" Movie promo insert card.
>>
>>55778412
I wish they used the cosmo foil for the rarest inside packs too. I know those cards aren't really rare at all now given that they're guaranteed, but seeing those old school pixels and swirls really takes me back to being a kid in a good way. Those promos look awesome, the ones using the new galaxy holofoil looked good too but original cosmo is unmatched.

Yes more hand drawn ex cards would be great, I love the Lycanroc from Paldea and want to more like that. It's nice that unlike the EX cards from BW and XY, quite a few of these new ones actually have backgrounds as well.

This era is good for collectors, normies have lost interest and the price of importing Japanese booster boxes has even plummeted back to 2017 levels for the new sets. The cards look better than ever and are back to being very affordable. It's just a shame classic sets are likely irreparably fucked price-wise

Sorry for the late reply. Traditional chinese cards are made in the same factory as japanese cards as this anon has pointed out. >>55778451

The languages printed in the japanese factory are the ff: japanese, traditional chinese, simplified chinese, thailand, and indonesian. Hence the quality of the cards of these languages are on par with japanese. But all of the languages printed in the japanese factory other than japanese use the english card back.
>>
>>55775414
>>55779505

To add, the quality of traditional and simplified chinese is equal to that of japanese. Except in one instance wherein the gamba lillie card from the simplified chinese gift box (CSML C) has a different skit texture to the japanese counterpart as seen in the pic here.

Previous sets don't just magically disappear when the new one comes out, you'd still have loads of time to get whatever you wanted. They'd have to cut down/remove entirely all of the elite trainer boxes, triple blisters, etc if they ever went the "more sets, but smaller" route though.

90s and early 00s renders are just simpler and something about the lack of texturing, simple or no lighting and slight off-modelness contribute to it

Pulling Blaziken VMAX from Chilling Reign was pretty sweet. Was just casually going through a pack. Didn't get any, code sign or HIT PEEK, just boom.

I got Miraidon ex SIR from a one single pack I bought on its own. Got a Revavroom ex SIR from a loose OF pack I bought two days ago too. The PokeGods always bless me, when I was a kid I got a Registeel EX from a single pack of Dragons Exalted that my dad bought me too. I miss that card

When my friend a few months ago was letting me go through his cards he handed me a pack on base pokemon that I thought was sealed. It wasn't sealed but when I pulled the cards out a mint Venusaur was on top. He let me have it.

was gonna post pics of some pulls I got recently but they came out like shit.
I'll just have to get em into a binder before I take better pics of them.

Are they doing away with the stadium boxes?
I enjoy opening them much more than ETBs and they also take up less space, but I haven't seen any for Temporal Forces or any preorders for the upcoming set.
Granted I do buy them when they're on deep discount, I've seen em go cheaper than ETBs at times

TCGbros, how does one go about buying Japanese cards?
I need this.
https://www.pokeguardian.com/1764571_pokemon-card-game-april-2024-merchandise-revealed
And this merch too for that matter.
I see it says it's from the Pokemon Center Japan but it's well you know Japan.
Do you guys have any recommended stores for the merch and the card boxes?
Thank you in advance, and sorry for what must be an obvious and dumb question to you all.

i think it's the fact that modern card art is simply too clean and high res compared to older cards

There are many proxy services that you can check to buy cards from japan.
>>
>>55788711
if you're in EU just use cardmarket
>>
>>55788711
for pokemoncenter products I use zenmarket, any proxy will do
for japanese cards just buy them on ebay or cardmarket

Saw 3 Chilling Reign ETBs at Target yesterday.
I’ve spent like $800 on Paldean Fates and Lost Origins this week so I couldn’t justify buying them.

Did I fuck up?

>>
>>55794311
Yeah, Chilling Reign sucks, what would you possibly be after?
You made the right call
>>55794376
very nice anon, I might go and spend some more money on Paldean Fates. I slept on it for months but now that it's on sale I'm picking stuff up
>>
>>55794405
No idea, I just know CR is starting to get a bit old.
>>
>>55794419
I'd say besides Blaziken, Snorlax and maybe Moltres, there's not really much in the set, I don't think there's much interest in it and I don't think there will be in the future. Are you buying Paldean Fates and Lost Origin to invest? If so I'd just hold onto them, as those sets will really appreciate.
>>
>>55794405
Early on I enjoyed paldean fates but after a while I was pulling the same 6 or so shineys out of everything I bought. Dunno if it was some kind of insane batching issue or what but every product I touched I'd pull
>scyther
>smoliv
>lucario
>drifblm
>raltz
>pawmot
I'm serious when I say I have at least 3-6 of each of them. It was so nice to pull multiple shinys and no repeats
>>
>>55794419
Everything gets old eventually. Yeah CR might eventually be worth more than current shit, but there has to be a demand for it, which it doesn't really seem to be the case.
>>
>>55794435
Hahahaha no….
I should be but no.
I’m trying to get a master set of PF and honestly it’s time to just buy the singles I’m missing and move on. I got 4 gardevoirs but no charizard or mew. Starting to double and triple up on regular shinies. It’s getting stupid.

As for Lost Origin I’m just chasing the Giratina. Unlike most cards I actually would like to pull that one myself.
>>
>>55794436
Same here but with different shinies.
If I pull another kadabra or primeape I’m going to lose my shit.
>>
>>55794444
I consider CR one of those sets that's fun to open when it's just those one off packs out of a tin or collection, maybe an etb if you find one for cheap.
Highlights of the set are probably the trainer cards granted I'm am biased for Karen
>>
>>55794436
CR is better than paldean fates but paldean fates is one of the worst sets in the past few years so it doesn't really take much
>>
>>55737651
I pulled this card out of an ETB the other day and honestly the holofoil on it is shit.
It depends mostly on lighting sure, but just holding it up to my face in an average lit room you couldn't make out the 2 heads that jut out from the body, only the torso
>>
>>55794447
That's nice, if it helps you feel better I just spent $500 on PF and Temporal Forces to rip today, I'm clearly not a wise man either.

I'm doing alright with PF but I keep getting the Pawmi AR, I understand the AR pool is very limited and it's either than, Wugtrio or Palafin, but please just give me a baby shiny instead of another Pawmi. If you have 4 Gardevoir SIRs though, I'm pretty jealous of that. I have no SIRs from this set yet, or Temporal Forces for that matter. Good luck with your pulls.
>>
>>55794468
Man I do not get the Pokemon community.
Ya’ll seem to love things I hate and hate what I love.
I like Paldean Fates a lot. The lineup of shinies is excellent.
The gold cards are underwhelming but most of the IRs are good.

Unless you just mean from a meta/competitive POV then I can understand but otherwise I don’t see how you can say PF is worse than Obsidian Flames or SV base set.

Have mixed feelings on twilight masquerade.
The Japanese set Crimson Haze is absolute fire but the other jap set Mask of Change is an complete shitshow outside of 1 or 2 of the trainer cards.
All the other english sets have had a decent mix of good cards from the jap sets they're pulling from but this one is so uneven it's not even funny.

Yeah, I can’t exactly complain about the gardevoirs but it’s frustrating because it could have been something else I needed but wasn’t.

Good luck with your pulls.
Best pull I had recently was Pikachu and Raichu from the same ETB that was pretty great.
>>
>>55794479
When it comes to obsidian flames, long term I could see its product shoot up in price over time when it get discontinued.
Overall it's a weak set but it has 3 things going for it
>multiple charizards to be pulled from the set
>large concentration of good illustration rare gen 1 and gen 2 pokemon
>people like Greeta and Poppy
>>
>>55794481
I agree. Crinson Haze was a fun open. I passed on Mask of Change due to how meh the set is. It's basically pull Carmine SIR or bust.

I'll just wait a few weeks before buying the jp singles.
>>
>>55794479
>but most of the IRs are good
i think the problem is there are 3 IRs and 8 SIRs. compare this to many of the other sets this era which have 20+ IRs and 10-15 SIRs

If you don't care for shinies, PF is a trash set. wish they actually put some effort into the shinies and made them all full arts or something, then i'd be interested. they're garbage as is.
>>
>>55794479
How they've handled shiny Pokemon like that in similar sets is just not interesting in any way to me. Oh boy! It's a shiny Pokemon on a blank background! Obviously art is subjective, but surely you would agree that these shinies were done in one of the most boring ways possible.

It sucks even more because there are barely any shiny Pokemon IR/SIRs, when this would've been *THE* time for lots of them.
>>
>>55794637
Well, some people like a simple minimalist look.
I don’t hate the design. It just mimics the games when the sparkles come out I guess.
But if you don’t care one way or the other whether your Voltorb is red or blue I can definitely see why the design doesn’t do anything for you, unlike IR and SIRs.

Again, part of the appeal of PF for me is I like a lot of the Pokemon they included unlike Shining Fates. Hidden Fates is between the two imo.
