Has anyone ever played homebrew here?
I’m planning on making homebrew data cards for veletaris axe bros to be in 40k guard. Just copy and pasting the adepts sororitas crusader rules and stats with a renaming. Would anyone be fine facing off against such a homebrew force with such units?

As I have said from my posts at>>92723209 and >>92723242 before I read the TQ.
I would like to see a guard replacement melee unit for the crusader that got removed from the guard codex. If I was in charge it would be an axe wielding unit like a modern 40k descendant of the velataris storm section trooper with power axe. They would be a melee swarm counter unit to the powerful individual bullgryn melee unit.

And also fulfill my fantasy of a 40k Rosenritter from logh in the guard army.

I know this general doesn't give a fuck about the deldar but the actual deldar plot is that Asdrubael resurrected himself again and declared himself a 'dark muse' which is as close to 'living god' as the dark eldar get, being essentially atheists who sometimes worship khaine because he kills people.
>>
>>92723111
>picture is banshees
Everything about exodites feels like they're designed to be a kitbashed army. What they actually need is a little section of the eldar faction book with their own detachment and then people can just buy some lizardmen and swap lizards for shining spears to make dragon knights.

Would need a brontosaurus model though, for that big mobile fortress brontosaurus.

I've never understood why Imperial secondaries think this is a gotcha moment for Xeno chads. This doesn't mean Aspect Warriors literally become women but rather they assume the identity of a woman since if you actually knew the lore behind Aspects they are supposed to emulate the original Aspect as closely as possible, which in case of Banshees literally boils down to just wearing a boob plate, not a full sex change. You can see this on the Autarch mini that is clearly male but he has the option of wearing the Banshee boob plate. You can see this for female Striking Scorpions too where they are wearing the male version of the armor.

And for the Dark Eldar, what the fuck did you except from the faction known for utter degeneracy, rampant body modification, body horror and a complete mastery of biology?

Male Banshees are canon per Gav.
Opinions on Gav are, fairly rightfully, pretty negative, bit he has more authority on the subject than Brooks ever will.

>>
is there a better ink (or substitute) for nuln oil? was excited to use it only to find out its actually pretty shit. im assuming dark tone ink is the same.

would it be worth watering down a contrast paint and trying that? just want to get some of the recesses real dark
>>
>>92724313
I water black down 10:1 water to paint. Add in the smallest drop of dish soap to break surface tension. Lesser the ratio for deeper color.
>>
>>92724313
contrasts even thinned will stain your surfaces more than you'd want for just recess shading
try mixing nuln oil with some glaze medium or using army painter's dark tone wash, it's excellent
just remember if you're painting something with big smooth surfaces like marines you can't just slop the wash all over and expect it to flow into recesses only without coffee staining like hell
>>
>>92724055
Holy and i mean holy fucking based
Do you think she would fuc lorgar?
>>
>>92724313
Depends on what you want to use it for. If it's recess shading, you're better off using oils and spirits. For darkening silver metallics, I actually like using basilicanum grey.
>>
>>92724327
ive actually noticed that by thinning down black paint to comedic levels it actually looks alright. i was using matt black when i did it accidently

>>92724331
honestly id probably be happy with staining the surfaces, ive used gun metal and didnt realise it would come out so bright. i probably shouldve used something like iron warriors instead as thats a little darker. ill give dark tone a try, ive got it here and havent used it yet, kinda assumed i fucked up and bought something that was identical to nuln oil

>>92724341
trying to do both atm, i also have bascilicanum grey. with thinning down contrast paints for darkening surfaces, is it better to use water or contrast medium? i did the latter and did not like the result
>>
just from using my fuckin eyes instead of relying on the compatibility chart i wouldve seen that gun metal definitely isnt the same as leadbelcher. im a peanut, you can all laugh at me now

If you were using the suggested terrain layouts, what would you have in the empty spaces on these pieces? Just flat open ground feels wrong if, as area terrain, the whole rectangle is meant to block LoS. But the diagram seems to imply no walls should be there. Maybe some scatter terrain type things such as barrels, scrap metal, crates, and other smaller items?

Among the best resin models you can buy for money.
Shipping from russia, which can be problematic with some countries.
But seriously, GW should hire them and let them handle the "finecast" department.

Also, this is how they ship their miniatures.
>>
>>92724679
Depends on the Legion, and depends on the renegades warband.

Harrowmaster did an excellent job of depicting the different versions of warbands that can exist within a single legion. So both can work really.

No, only walls (terrain in general but usually only walls in ruins) more than 2 inches tall restrict movement.

Ruins block LOS
And non titanic vehicles can only draw line of sight while in a ruin if wholy within.
Infantry and beasts can run through walls

Core reasons:
>Additional rules complications
>Physical baggage, must bring templates with you too
>Templates are difficult to calculate accurately "by eye" due to distance from the table and also models being in the way
>Generated anti fun/slow play rules due to the ways to avoid them
Im more than happy they removed templates. They just arent feasible in a physical game like 40k. I think if they brought them back, you'd need a mini projector or something so you can visualise it despite the huge models

just keep at it, sounds like there's hope if they were at least willing to try other stuff. maybe you can talk to them about doing 10th one week, your thing the next?

don't expect people to just drop current edition if that's what they enjoy. but lots of players like mixing it up. I had a good thing going for a while where we were doing long-running narrative campaigns (not a lot of mechanical webbing, just same armies and continuous fluff) with some weeks being "zoomed in" 40k games and others using epic or BFG. even did AI once. players get hyped about that kind of thing. one month you're painting up some squads of boyz, the next your little fleet of kroozers, the next your gargant mob and they're all 'part of the same army'.
>>
How do you feel about heterogeneous armies?
I like to make some special units have divergent colours or sometimes put names characters in their canon colours despite the army being /mydudes/
>>
Why did they make the Enforcer Commander slower than the only unit it can lead

>>
>>92725560
I mean isn't that there inherently to a degree? Like with space marines having white docs, black priests, etc. Or mixed daemons and the such?
I think its nice as long as there are some overarching elements still tying the more different-coloured model together, like some motiff, colour accent or sculpt details.
>>

>>
>put army all together on table

It all depends on what you want out of the army. if you want your characters to stand out against the tide then yeah having them be unique in their paint scheme is fine.
I personally like dyeing models in my own scheme and having them as one complete force despite their "canon" colours. I also always helmet human characters, even named ones.

>>
>>92725581
I dont necessarily think so, but I think there should be maybe some reason why they've stuck together
Like, maybe give them a bunch of chipping, weathering, battle damage. I heard that one Spess Woofs company had even scavenged CSM pauldrons? Idk could be too far but you get the idea

>>
>>92725436
>The magazine is largely superfluous now, they're trying hard to justify it's existence
it's especially difficult to justify white dwarf now that they can put shit like interviews, lore articles and battle reports on Warhammer+ with a much smaller cost (and quality)

I guess the white dwarf team could use it to publish scenarios, legends rules updates and other glorified houserules for conversions, but it all falls flat unless they give a way to get them after the month of publication, and then no one buys the monthly thing because they could get the later compendium

maybe they could try publishing the codex rules a month or two before the actual codex release so waacfags flock to get white dwarf to play as soon as possible with their update, but it's borderline scammy

I would buy it if it was just chock full of classic artwork

you maybe weren't around to remember, but gw used to have a *fantastic* website. books and books worth of optional rules, more painting and conversion articles than you could read in a lifetime, terrain guides, forums where you'd get the devs coming on and talking directly to players, answering questions. and at a time when white dwarf was very fan-run feeling and just jammed with hobby content too.
at the time there was a lot of sharing between the two, kind of a good-for-the-gander attitude. and then it got more confrontational, more about the WD exclusives, lots of the site got pulled down, etc.

less about paint scheme than just control and ease of use. you don't need to do fancy shit to make it worthwhile. airbrush still kicks the shit out of rattlecans even if all you ever do is solid primer coats and clearcoat.
but sure, if you only ever build 2000 points of marines or whatever, and that's all the minis you're ever gonna paint in your life, by all means buy the rattlecan and stop there. but definitely a thousand percent make the jump before you buy your 2nd army.

What I was trying to say, it has less applications for some scheme and more for others. Just maybe off the top of my hand, 3 scheme ideas that I can't envision it being much useful:
1) famous coconut crab nids & various iterations, its a solid off-white coat, freehanding/dotting patterns and pinwashing. At best maybe add some gradients to the limbs but again, that'd be deviating & taking scheme to a different direction
2) some sort of eldar with lots of clear panels and freehanded floral motiffs. Pretty much same reason as above
3) a grimy CSM scheme like The Cleaved, which is a solid coat

It is not unawar. It is just that 30+ years ago, when the line was something kin to "the scorpion aspect armour is one of the heaviest of all aspects, so only the strongest eldar can wear it". No one needed for this to be followed with "which means male eldar only". Same way when the banshee aspect was explained and how in order "tap in to" the banshees wail a specific aptitude for psychic is needed, it didn't have to be "only female eldar" and I think it says mostly female in the 2ed codex, but I have not read that damn thing in three decades+.

Something that would once been a super rare "never happens" occurance aka a DDR style female stricking scorpion or a male Banshee, got turned in to "of course the aspects are spolit 50/50".

It is like the whole custodes thing. Description talks about breaking the martial, physical and mental peak, and for three decades no one had to say "men", because everyone knew it was men. But as with all things writen down, back then no one thought how w40k would look like in three decades. It is like my country law makers, didn't think what would happen if a non constitutional majority started to break the constitution , with the president just using the Kings Mercy law to protect them from any responsibility.

People take 0,05% ultra rare occurances and turn them in to something that suddenly is 100% thing. Cadia has IG gender parity? Suddenly all regiments have to be like that too. Right now we are at a bizzar place where almost all ship captins and admirals are women.

The old Knight and Princeps lore was that women were very rarly picked as pilots, because of the instability of the neuro link between them and the knight/titan. Now we have female barons, and whole legions of titants being women piloted only. Better yet we are told that his is how it has been since the times of HH, which means that this is how it has been for ever, because Titan Legions and Knight Housholds predate the Long Night.

>It’s an unfortunate truth that the world keeps getting more expensive. Prices for food, materials, and transportation have been trending upward for a few years now, and Warhammer isn’t immune to that trend.
>This means that from the 10th June we’ll be increasing some prices in our Warhammer stores and on Warhammer.com.
>The price changes for individual products will vary, but in most countries the average change will be between 3% and 5%.* As an example of what you can expect, a squad of Necron Warriors goes up $2 from $50 to $52, £30 to £31.50, and €40 to €41 (or local currency equivalent).
>The prices of some of our products aren’t changing, such as paint pots and paint sets, White Dwarf, and Black Library products (including digital publications).
>We understand that no one likes a price rise and we’ve done our best to keep prices down. We’re giving you a heads-up now so that you have plenty of time to take advantage of current prices.

The existence of discount retailers is the pure evidence of how much they overprice their shit.
If they can sell shit with discounts between 15-25% it means they have a good chunk of profit margin.

GW stocks have been more or less, been steadily going down since like 2023 summer.
The Coof has ended and basically no one gives about it, meaning lockdowns are over and people have to go to work, etc. etc.
Meaning less free time for stuff like 40k, and then put on top of the current world situation where it is pretty evident that a global recession will most likely hit soon.
GW jacking up the prices is nothing more than to appease the shareholders, it's the whole:
>"Hey, look we made as much if not a little bit more money than we did last quarter, it means we are doing alright."
And most shareholders and investors are retarded boomers who basically know nothing and then just nod in agreement "Yes, Mr. James, things seem to be going alright, we'll conclude our shareholder meeting here then."

Ive had a few bad prints due to supports being in the wrong place (turns out if you hang the models the wrong way and give the resin a place to get trapped you lose detail go figure) but all in all its been relatively painfree.
Editing 3dprints is easy too, I made my Maleceptor hollow then added two sets of holes on either side where the arms would be placed anyway to avoid any issues and it took 2 mins and I think it turned out pretty well. Need to go over it with an exacto and remove some of the support scraps

Their web is a nightmare for wayback machine to archive, but I managed to browse some Chaos stuff from 2019 and a box of Chaos termies costed 28 pounds and now they cost 37,5 pounds for a nifty 34% increase. A forgefiend went from 40 to 50. Raptors from 20 to 28.
So I'd say around 25 to 35% overall increase since then. Mind you, in the UK, which is the least affected. I'd assume in Euro it'd be at least 40% and probably more in the range of 50% to 60% for dollars. Dark Imperium was $160, Leviathan if I'm not wrong was like $250.

The real significant part of GW's revenue comes from newbies and women aged 35-50. A former product designer stated on a podcast with Peachy that aunts and moms buy most of their stuff retail. Anybody who has purchased more than a couple boxes will know to always buy off 3rd party sites or ebay/facebook martketplace.

GW makes money off ignorant consumers who don't even know what questions to ask and just get their son/nephew the box he's been wanting for Christmas. Same reason they don't make enamel paints. It's too "deep" into the hobby and not beginner friendly.

yeah, but that eldar are an expetion to all w40k army rules, they have a huge following at the studio. They get great rules and beyond great rules. Eldar "nerfed" is still above 50% win rate, something other armies can only dream about. Eldar get model support what ever they get a range refresh or not. They don't get stuff legend, even if GW no longer produces or sells the models. In fact GW break their own legs fixing the eldar load out options for characters. Something other faction characters just don't have anymore.
For marines 2ed marine models are no longer playable, either because GW removed them from the game, the bases and model size changes and GW voided tanks, transports etc from that time. Meanwhile an eldar player could have an army of real or recast 2ed eldar models, never paid a cent since 2ed and have a perfectly working army.

Meanwhile a marine player has to buy 2 full 2000pts armies or have an army that does not work. And that is assuming his army didn't get removed. Tough luck if someone liked the look of Legion of the Damned or White Scars.
>>
>>92726096
Dethroning a faction leader is a bit outside the scope of a black library novels. They never alter the status quo of the setting unless they are retellings of already published grand narrative stuff. Even if some stuff is "revealed" or pushes some doomsday clock closer to midnight, midnight never comes.

That Maleceptor doesnt look exactly like the actual one, but thats been done on purpose to give some degree of removal from the sculpt.
The Zoans ive printed are the same, they look close enough but its obvious they arent the actual sculpt because the goal isnt to 1:1 print the exact model like a recast is.

Also the model will look far less distinguishable once its primed and painted. Same as recasts and other 3rd party stuff
>>
>>92726065
I sadly seen that in action. Kids comes in. Starts buying box after box of stuff. Over a year gets a 2000pts army. Plays 4-5 games and suddenly it strikes him, that what he bought does not work. Then one of two things happen. He either leaves and never comes back or He buys a new army. And God help me it better be a proper army, and not another "what you like" one, because those who go through 2 armies and 2-3 years of saving up and getting an dude that loses all games, those really don't come back. The dudes that had a bad expiriance as a teen, sometimes do come back as 30-40y old dude, who buys an army from a list in one go. With full expectation that those 500-600$ are suppose to give them 3 months minimum of fun.

The most fun thing is that the dude likes the fact he is in the book. So if the goal was to stick it to the "sargon and his chuds", it didn't work. Or maybe it was suppose to be some sort of showing of your own opposition, but that only works when you are the weaker/not in control side. All in all, fuck the reasons, what matters it is that the lore went so crazy at this point that all of it is just funny. Now I want female marines, and even more lore insanity. Make tyranids do culture, create peaceful orks. Fuck create a 4th eldar faction and let all four mix with each other. Go crazy. Blow up terra and resurect the emperor in the body of "not Lizzo".

Probably, I can see there being a sky assault detachment that makes valkyries into dedicated transports as a part of its rule. Ones I'd consider likely are:
>index detachment (cadian)
>sky assault (scions)
>mechanized infantry (steel legion)
>tank regiment (tallarn)
>close combat focused (catachan)
>attrition warfare (krieg)
5-6 detachments seems about right for guard, but the one I'd say is probably least likely would be scions.
>>
>>92726295
>as long as its not outright confirmed, duh
I do understand the need for ambiguity, this headcanon story I imagine being represented only by odd artifacts and patterns embedded into the most ancient bioships and organisms or via psychic scrying done by some poor imperial getting bombarded by flashes of this past before he dies or goes mad
and even then I'd make sure to point out that said bioweapon/singularity happened only because the previous society found something even more ancient to take inspiration or start it from, because the idea that tyranids are truly ancient is kinda required for the dinosaur feel, I believe

But I have to make a stand, no, I don't care about how similar the above makes them to necrons, if anything, I kind of like the parallelism and would have a necron character muse on the idea of whether their race too would have become something similar to the tyranids if they didn't rebel to the c'tan or if the destroyer madness overtakes them all
just with metal instead of flesh

one of the possible bad ends for a galactic culture staring at them in the face

The one in the top left is literally just a preference for fucking big, hairy men.

They have to be put on a pedestal and shoved in your face because they just have to, okay?

Why does he have a holster the left? It's not like he's going to waddle around a fucking pistol with a powerfist

I always thought this weird because they do sculpt a lot of models like this but there are techniques to draw from a left holster with your right hand

Poor too now. Can someone chart the points per dollar for each army over time?

I want to get excited for necron list building but fuck I hate the state of silvertide. It's like I go full throttle on hypercrypt & c'tan/wraiths or I eat a shit sandwich.

I have the things I need to make a list work but it feels so unlike what I imagine necrons to be like, the codex is a downgrade from the index, despite meta fags being happy they can run more cheesy lists with it.

I can see past GW's "balance" when they remove Canoptek attaching to Lychguard and add it to wraiths.

No it isn't you stupid no-games, stop being a retarded doomer. I play my Necrons on a weekly basis and never use Hypercrypt or Canoptek and have never in my life owned a Ctan model and regularly win games. I DO have one half unit of Wraiths that I bust out occasionally though. But your comments are all completely unfounded, Necrons are the best for list building because reanimation is such a massive crutch in casual games that you can run whatever dumb shit you want with the only mandatory thing being that you need to make sure you bring something fast that can do secondaries otherwise you will be too slow to do anything. Don't be a big baby, I cannot imagine a single list combo that would be bad for Necrons right now, they are in the best state they've been in in years and I say this as someone that regularly runs the destroyer detachment and loves running my stupid Doom Scythe.
