Do you think they're power creeping the game?
I've seen people mention here before that melee is a "solved problem" and there's a single best way to resolve attacks. What is it?
>>92580389>TQI'm going to hot take it and say that no, I don't think so. People look at their team abilities and see crazy stuff, but forget that that has been the initial reaction to a ton of teams, and while they've certainly tweaked teams in the past but mostly to fix some unintended side-effects. I mean, vetguard had the ability to un-engage any enemy and insantly shoot them with plasma from infinite range until recently, and kommandos have team-wide charge from conceal and their just a scratch letting them dominate melee (again, until only recently), and those were the first two teams. What I do think is happening is a dual effect of needing more out-there abilities to distinguish teams, combined with the design team becoming more comfortable with what is and isn't feasible. Only two things have caught my attention as being dangerous, and that's the ventriloqar and nightmare manifest being so much better than usual bolter discipline. Even then, ventriloqar isn't broken, just unfun, and bolter discipline-esque abilities have been getting small buffs continuously from launch when I think they were just too afraid of what it could turn into.tl;dr no, but teams are getting more wacky in order to stay unique.
>>92580454melee is just easy min max in most cases.most of the time you just hit full force and n rare cases you can block and then hit full force. the problem with melee is how the blocking/parrying works if the enemy has more attacks then you can block (2 or 3 with shield rule) blocking is not worth much. the only other case is if you are in engagement range with a realy weak unit with a strong unit in line of sight of many shooty operatives and don't want to get shot you don't want to actually kill him.
>>92580389>TQno idea if they are strong, know no one that played as or against them, the main problem with them (at least the deldar team) is that it has so many rules that just ignore other rules. making them unfun and frustrating for the opponent.
>>92580454Once you understand melee it's really easy to count the dice and damage to see what outcomes are even possible (assuming neither side does something super stupid). As a result there isn't really a mind game being played - either there is a single reasonable outcome, or one player gets to choose between staying alive and getting more damage in. There are some small tricks that aren't immediately apparent that can be used in some specific situations, but in most cases it'll look like different variations of>operate A deals 4/5 damage>operative A attacks operative B, B has 7 wounds and no special parry/blocking effects>operative A rolls 3 hits>operative B rolls 3 hits as well>since operative A will get to strike with 2 hits before B can stop them, the outcome will always be that B hits A once and A then kills BDifferent rolls and characteristics and uniue abilities alter this calculation, but ultimately it'll look the same - one operative can force the other into a specific outcome that is known once the dice have been rolled, and not following that pre-known sequence will just waste damage or give your opponent what he wants.
Just got my box and opened it up before I head out for errands and it is a chunky box, like twice the size of the Salvarion box vertically. The terrain piece is fucking massive and all of the cards, book, and tokens came in a neat little cardboard case. Nightmare seems way more high effort than Salvation in basically every way.
>>92580884was also more expensive, just a question if it's worth it.
>>92580948The giant terrain piece makes it worth it imo
>>92580970not that guy, but I wish they made a box with only the terrain in it, i'm kinda in the opposite boat where the teams don't interest me and I want cool mechanicus terrain
>>92580970anyone else who pretents the vents have the rules of smoke granades?
>>92581047you can get the terrain easy second hand.
>>92581077yeah I just did that, but it's pretty pricy for a single building even if it's big. Though I guess games workshop wouldn't make it cheaper than that so I guess there's no other way. At least i'll get my cool factory map
>>92580389>TQI think every elite team is gonna get some version of the Night Lords skip an activation ability and the Mandrakes are gonna get a lot of changes but aside from probably being lame to play against they're not spelling the downfall of the balance I don't think
>>92581127Exactlyhave fun, post pics of first match with it.
Pls post your kill teamsNecromunda fan, but only played one game and it's very complex and not popular at my local FLGS.Would love to see some Kill Teams for inspiration/motivation to start a new project.I love anything with a small group of unique guys, because fuck painting units of identical marines. Pic rel.
>>92581641Not painted yet but the last heads arrive in an hour or so, and then I'll be working on them. Legionaries. it's been a while since I've painted and I hope I'm not too rusty
>>92581641Have a friend who plays KT regularly and he invited me to join the group. Had my first game friday with these guys. Ran the chainsword guy as the butcher and the bolter guy as icon bearer.
>>92581641
>>92581753i like the blue and the flames. (the rest looks also realy good but less my taste).
>>92581690Love a head swap - very easy way to add a bit of uniqueness. I especially like the death guard head. I think you've done some leg and torso swaps too. What prompted the fur cloaks idea? I think it adds a bit of finesse and takes away the bulkiness which I feel is out of place for a kill team setting. Can't wait to see how you paint them>>92581753Love the paintjob - especially the blue and black.>>92581890Nice
I'm getting into Kill Team. Is there a meta?I'm not a tryhard, but think I'd be going into a group who know what they're doing and I'd rather not get steamrolled.I really like the look of kroot, chaos cultists (if they're an option, or could proxy as guardsmen), and the various guardsmen variants. Considering doing a custom Inquisition team too.Is there a way of having a marine and a few little cultists/guardsmen/henchmen.I like the vibe of a chaos marine leading some mutants
>>92582025>Is there a meta?yes though most bespoke teams are at least alright
>>92581975>I especially like the death guard head. It's been sitting in my bits box for a while after I wasn't able to make it work on a 30k project. Had to take the chance to use it.>I think you've done some leg and torso swaps too.Everyone except the Chosen is from the Intercessor or Assault Intercessor kits as a base. I trimmed away all the knee ridges from the legs and filed down the aquilas from all the torsos (and the collars from about half of them). The Aspiring Champion's torso is an inverted Tartaros termi torso, clipped to fit in place of the regular one and with the gaps greenstuffed closed. The Chosen is a MkIV torso on Tartaros legs (I wanted a devastator torso, but it made the double belt issue much more visible) - he's the only one that doesn't have the legs and back torso of an intercessor.>What prompted the fur cloaks idea?Originally I was going to do it for all of them, actually! I saw an old kitbash from when the Primaris kits first came out that used a fur mantle to cover some structural work, and I really liked how it looked on the model. I did a few of these with the mantles, while some like the Anointed had things that would get in the way and got shoulder pads instead. The Balefire Acolyte isn't built yet, but I plan on giving them a fabric cloak as a mantle instead, since the head I'm using is hooded.>can't wait to see how you paint themThanks. The plan is a Thousand Sons-like blue with brass accents. White Scars successors so still figuring out how I want to handle skin and hair tones. I haven't been painting for a year or so, so I'm hoping I pick back up relatively smoothly.
>>92582025>Is there a metaGenerally so long as you stay away from the compendium you're good. Custodes and tyranids in the compendium are good though.>I really like the look of kroot, chaos cultists (if they're an option, or could proxy as guardsmen), and the various guardsmen variants. Considering doing a custom Inquisition team too.all good picks, though kroot are the "only win on points, gets butchered in combat" team.>Is there a way of having a marine and a few little cultists/guardsmen/henchmen.You can with Warpcoven, as well as Custodes, Gellarpox and tyranids if you just want big guys and followers and don't really NEED it to be marines. Also there's the compendium Traitor space marine but it's very underpowered and only playable against other compendium teams.
>>92581641my first KT models, posted these in /WIP/ for advice as I work through the starter kit. pretty happy with how these test models are turning out, going to do the same scheme for the rest of the ork specialists, then I need to figure out how I'm going to do the vet guard
>>92582175They're blue! da ba dee da ba die
>>92581641Kill Team Interius here are certainly a diverse set of marines, some of them are pretty massively kitbashed. They performed surprisingly well two days ago, 2 wins out of 3 games was nice.
>>92582175>BlueWhy?
>>92582388Luckier that way
>>92581641here's my khorne legionaries
>>92582201Yes, I would like to have all the physical books and sets too but GW works on mindset of "limited release once, then never again" so latecomers like I are punished.
>>92582273>>92582388knew i didnt want to do standard green orks. was thinking about the color scheme while doing some random models to practice painting, turquoise neurogants and heavy rust on terminators (going for fallout power armor look), and I thought the colors would be a cool contrast on a single model if I really pushed the orange in the rust. I'm tempted to do another pass on these to punch up the rust color even moremy headcanon is these blue boys are an amphibious, sneaky navy seal type ork variant. they need a certain humidity to breathe so I'm building them all with helmets and heavily rusted weapons.
>>92581641Thats my hand of the archon team.Despite buying that box for the Arbites, i had way more fun with them.
>>92582175Something about the rust doesn't convince me, maybe it needs darker shades.
>>92582576yeah, it's what I've struggled with the most on these. I want the rust to be /very/ orange to pop against the blue (it is just pure orange in the deepest recesses) but it feels like a fine line between believability/cartoony. I went a lot lighter on the guns because I was worried about making them read as nerf toys.. idk, any tips or inspo pics would be appreciated
>>92582634>>92582576>>92582175IMO the underlying metal is quite dull, but I think the rust looks ok. Maybe try highlighting the metal, applying a brighter orange in places and do a dark washBlue and orange is a classic combo
>>92583119I might have overdone the earthshade wash to tie the weapons together. the axes/guns are an initial base of vallejo steel > orange in the recesses > mix with brown for a cleaner transition. maybe I start with an even lighter metallic, something like silver or chrome? i think it might look better for the tabletop, but maybe less realistic as rust up close. looking at reference pics of rusted axes it's rare to find areas with a metallic sheen, they get really darkI'm going to clip out some of the spare axes and knives from the sprue and test some more rust looks
>>92581641My first kill team still in progressYet to decide on a primary a color for the fate dealer and way seeker
>>92583452GO GO POWER RANGERSI like it, anon.
>>92583475Hadn't made that connection at all, that's funnyThanks anon!
>>92581641Here’s my Hand of the Archon.
>>92581641My Pathfinders
>>92584445Speaking ofHow are Pathfinders rn?Some people seem to think they're the best team in the game again
>>92581641Just starting on my first, still flip flopping on colours but I want to do some heavy OSL on the ocular and guns and probably the crystals on the bases too. I think I'm going to go with an off-white for most of the panels that are currently black and purple for the light sources
Any cool lore stuff from Nightmare?
>>92584523Probably the best team in the game. They got a huge buff with the change to the recon drone. Not bad in ITD with the markerlight guard action
>>92581690Love some of those poses you got going on there anon. And you cleaned up the knee pads too. Very nice touch. Nice fur work too.
>>92585061Thanks. Got them all primed today, so hopefully I can get started painting tomorrow or Wednesday.
Does anyone have/do scans exist of the Salvation kill team book? Need to know before I cut mine up to scan, I just want the art in it
>>92584639https://pastebin.com/d5mJbYDP
looking to start KT, I already have ITD terrain from boarding actions, and the bonus sprues, is ITD actually good or am I better off playing a more open format.
>>92586501ITD is good in its own right. It plays differently from open boards, and some teams that can struggle on open do great on ITD and vice versa
After a slight primer incident my Wyrmblade are once again completed. I'm particularly happy with these hijacked drone heavy gunners. Was going for a cordicepts fungi vibe with the purple cables going into the sensor slots and I think it works.
>>92581641Been working on some corsairs. I already have some breachers and phobos. These have been the most fun to paint, so detailed and full of character, but I’ve yet to play them. Otherwise Phobos have been the most fun to play
>>92588498Thanks doc
Considering getting into Kill team. Having discovered recasters I'm unbelievably tempted to buy these guys, as I remember wanting them so badly when I was younger.Do they fit well into a kill team ruleset? I assume veteran guardsmen, who I imagine a good team to start with considering they're one of the starter box teams. How many minis should I aim for? 10?I do already have the renegade psykers x2 and apostate preachers of nurgle x2, so the command set gets me to 9 I think with a decent choice of weaponry.I also have one of the ogryns
>>92589248Pic related - love these guys
>>92589248>>92589254If you're looking at traitor guardsmen you'd want to start by checking the Blooded kill team. It can take a chaos ogryn too, which fits you already having one. Between 12 and 14 operatives in that team, depending on if you use the ogryn and/or traitor commissar. If you did vetguard instead it'd still be 14, they can deploy with 10 but it's a vastly inferior setup than just taking the 4 extra bodies.
>>92589283Thanks, I'll look at both.Leaning towards vetguard because I like the lore idea of a squadron recently turned traitor, but yeah probably either works
>>92582201I actually bought 2 kill team rulebooks and 2 kill team octarius rulebooks for me (vet guard) and an ork playing friend who both want to get into Kill team. Is this where it begins? Is this where I will begin to become the rulebook collector?
>>92580389Wahapedia's pdf link for the core rules just points to the last update (1.19) instead of the core rulebook. My friend is pulling me back into 40k and I want to read up on the rules for KT
>>92589446Aren't all the rules just... on the site?
>>92587553I've never seen a wyrmblade team out in the wild. How are they?
>>92589293you want blooded m8, they are fuckin sick.
>>92589254>>92589248Keep in mind that you need some of the old cadian legs (and maybe arms, but they are easier to come by) for the regular troopers. But your recaster should have those in stock as well.
>>92590757I'm gonna get the command squad only I think.I have a necromunda gang (which I've never used) where I used GSC bits - picrel. Fixing legs to torsos was a pain. I could easily use these as a Kill team desu, but I think the weapons are wrong (?). Necromunda is mostly shotgun and autogun options.Admittedly I want an excuse to buy the command squad
>>92591079
Any kind anons got a pdf of Gallowdark or the last Annual?
>>92591079I really love these, real grimy and grim. I think they might work as part of a wyrmblade team.
>>92591179blue whatsapp has it
>>92591186I'm much more of a chaos fan. That said, I do have the broodcoven sprue gathering dust.Hate the bald heads, but love the hive scum and sometimes gunslinger vibe
There aren't any loyalist teams that mix ogryn and regular humans, right? And the chaos ones are all melee only Ogryn?
>>92592684The only ogryn in the game is on the Blooded team and he's pure meleeYou could probably proxy ogryn into certain other teams if you really wanted, though
>>92592684There is only one ogryn in the game and its melee only, however you could change the Servitor of the Inquisitorial team to an Ogryn with a gun.
>>92592790>>92592806For some reason I thought another team had a mutant Ogryn on it, besides the Blooded ogryn. Evidently not.I was thinking about future projects and remembered I took notes about ogryn proxies for my 30k army that ended up insanely expensive for what I'd need. For a single model it wouldn't be nearly as bad (I was looking down the barrel of 15 of them at the time), so might give it another shot, just would have to find what to even run them as. Sounds like Blooded.
>>92592842If you don't care if it is strong, use 6 Tyranid Warriors and play them with Ogryn models.
>>92581641I have so many but I've only played with a couple of them. Just creative-wise I'm probably the most proud of my fallen sisters team.
>>92582201Im not buying your fucking rule books james, I aint no filthy paypig.
>>92593432are those fallen sisters?
>>92593432Stupid question: what are those models?
>>92593807Yes.>>92594429"Sisters of corruption" from Artel W.
>>92594591Thx It's hard to find nice female heads heads.
>>92590556Very fun when you can make the terrain work for you. You're basically trying to use your neophytes to bait the enemy onto opening themselves for your cult agents to hit a big multi kill or annihilate an elite. You basically always bring the Kellermorph and then pick between 2 more shotguns, Sanctus Talon, Sanctus Sniper or Locus depending on the opponent and map.
Got a question about the ork kommandos box. Are the contents inside the box enough to make something between 9 ork regular shoota boyz optionally? So for instance if one were to buy one Ork kommandos box and make the specialist ork kommando boyz and then another just for regular shootas? Is that how the ork kommandos box is or not? If not I'll just look for recast ForgeWorld ork kommando conversion sets and maybe even the 2005 metal ork kommandos.
>>92595503If you mean slugga and choppa you can do 10 of those, if you mean shoota no, you only got the dakka boy and the snipa boy.
>>92582175The balance if off on your camera, fixed it for you buddy!
>>92596462>If you mean slugga and choppa you can do 10 of thoseAre you referring to the Kommando boys? I am referring to the Kommando boys. My apologies that I wasn't clear enough at first.I'm not good at reading sprues on websites, but I can do it just fine in real life for whatever reason. I can't explain why or how.
>>92596924Yeah you get enough bits to go all kommando boys, though I don't know why you would want to.
>>92582360>Hawk Lords>Red Scorpions>Disciples of Caliban>Brazen Minotaurs>Celestial Lions>White Consuls?Based. Based. And also based. Great taste, anon.
>>92598146Damn, I'm surprised you managed to identify that many despite the unfavourable angles. No White Consuls but I assume you mean Avanis with the power fist and grav pistol, in which case I can see the colour similarity.
>>92598107>though I don't know why you would want to.Customization of Kill Team if I don't want to use certain special units for whatever reason I would just replace them with an ork kommando boy. Even if it handicaps my Kill Team I'd still do it just for the aesthetics.
>>92599148Magnets and greenstuff, dude.
>>92599286Knowing myself I would screw up the magnetizing. It is safer to just support the LGS and buy two boxes.
>>92580389>Have loads of third party resin bits>different lasguns and autogun parts>want to make a veteran guardsmen team>plan on giving them variety weapons for a scrounged together misfits look of autogun and lasgun armed look>check wahapedia as I only have Octarius and Core rulebook as PDFs for autogun and lasgun stats>get wrymblade result with autogun>Leader autogun is different to vet guard lasgun>Neophyte Icon Bearer/Neophyte Brood-Adept autoguns same stats as vet guard lasgunsWell lads I'm now paralyzed with indecision. Should I go forward with my original plans to mix up the lasguns and autoguns among the custom guard veterans or do I just give them all lasguns in case some autist gets pissy at the LGS? I figure that since they're veteran guard then even if the models have autoguns stat-wise they would still play as lasguns.
>>92599391if the rest of the model is also kinda misfits militia style just go for it, if its just original veteran "krieg" models just use lasguns. (if you make custom models anyway its no biggy using autoguns)
>>92599457Alright I'll stick with the misfits militia style.
>>92599325>just support the LGS and buy two boxesLol, fuck off GW-shill. Print if you must but we don't buy GW products around these parts anymore.
>>92599325get these off amazon:>hand drill>2x1mm disc magnets>super gluekeep the magnets in a stack so they stay in the same orientation. it's real simple.
>>92599731I’m not buying from a gw store though it’s from an lgs at a discount.
>>92599731>wehave you even looked at the thread you're in
>>92580389In regards to tq, which looks stronger now, Hunter Clade or Nemesis Claw? Getting back into the game and practicing for a tourney and not sure which one to practice more. I played Hunter Clade last year and they seemed pretty strong, but idk if they've gotten any nerfs since or have been pushed out by the newer teams yet?
>>92600469Nemesis Claw is hard to say, they have an unusual combination of strengths and weaknesses and there aren't a lot of people who've even tried them yet so practical experience and data is limited.Hunter Clade actually got buffed early this year, making their rerolls easier to trigger mostly. I played them myself and they felt plenty strong. The only thing I can think of is that Nemesis Claw, like all marine teams, get hard-countered by Kasrkin (especially since Kasrkin can nullify their team wide ability), so Hunter Clade might not have that weakness. If you know there'll be a lot of Kasrkin in the tournament, it'd be safer to go Hunter Clade.I don't think either will disappoint though, whichever you pick it'll come down to your own skill.
>>92582201>print out rules from wahapedia2 ez
If I make a death guard team with a plasma gun, a plasma pistol, a plague spewer and 3 bolters, how likely is it that I'll have to eventually change it when a plague marine team is released? assuming whatever plague marine team is designed to work with the current kit.
>>92599775Buying at an LGS store doesn't affect GW in the slightest. They already got paid by the store for that stock. If they don't sell GW stock (which will never happen because children) then they won't buy that much from GW again but it would take years before any changes were made in the company for that to matter.
>>92603079>have two plague marine teams>and GellerpoxWhy do you think they are going to get another team?
>>92603079You'll definitely have the plasma pistol and gun as operatives, but outside of that it's going to be random. Plague spewer might be a good operative, or a fighter-esque operative, or it's all going to be different.
>>92603206>two plague marine teamshuh? They have the Death Guard team, that's compendium and thus eligible to be turned into a white dwarf team, and they sort of have legionaries but that's not a death guard team.
>>92603249In what way isn't that a nurgle team? It's mechanically better and fixes the issues with the original dm team (no slow, no problematic 5+ feel no pain). I would be surprised if they bin the compendium teams if they bothered to bring them back. I don't think they'll even get rid of the compendium teams. The worst they can say about them is that they are often mechanically weak. If nobody plays them why would it be an issue.
>>92603611I thought the point of compendium teams is "here's how you field a Kill Team right now using your existing 40k dudes" which is to say being competitive within Kill Team isn't even the point of them any more.
Any ideas for a new kill team? Nothing tyranid related.
>>92603917Haemonculus Covens versus Dark MechanicumCovens team is 5 Wracks and 3 GrotesquesDark Mech is 1 Heretek Priest, 1 cyber demon, 2 electro priests, and 5 servitors
>>92603663It's really hard to tell without more of them being played more. I think most of those teams would end up at like a 35% win rate (which is subpar but not that terrible compared to other uggo bespoke teams).>>92603917I could see another arbities squad in a Gellerpox type line. Give them a couple Guard OGryn, a whole lot of cybermastiffs and a ton of breaching stuff (wall teleporters, explosives, , etc). Like 2 ogryn , 4 regular ogryn, 6 cybermastiffs and some assorted other drones or regular guys. The idea of Teleporting a roided up ogryn thru a wall into a small point strikes me as funny. if history is any indication probably another spess muhrine teams. If they could balance one termie with some other stuff (sort of like the patriarch) that would probably get some play. The 'Abhuman' brigade of Guard could be interesting, slap a couple ogryn, catgirls, loyalist goatmen and ratlings would be interesting.

>>92603917Gonna go with a super-snowflake team here because the game needs more Xenos representation, but a Slaugth team would be pretty good.>Slaugth Overseer as the leader, 1-2 Slaugth infiltrators with 2-3 Slaugth Vassal Constructs for your weapon platforms and fill out the rest with human Agents>Vassal Constructs are your bread and butter murder machines supported by the Agents>Slaugth themselves go hard into the infiltration archtype and excels in sneaking and flanking, weapon inflicts high levels of mortal wounds when within 3" of the target during shooting>team creates corpse tokens upon kills, Slaugth can "eat" these tokens to heal/buff themselves upBasically a 3-unit elite team supported by more horde operatives, kinda like a shooty version of Gellerpox.
>>92580389Just about to start playing Kill Team, for Pathfinders, 2 markerlights on a target prevents the target using cover, does that mean I can shoot them when they're in conceal because they're no longer hidden behind cover?
>>92611540No it does not ignore Cover in a literal sense. The "no cover" rule just prevents the enemy to retain one of his defence dice as an automatic success.
>>92580389>TFW can't find a combat gauge with numbers printed on the shapes on Etsy. Help. I'm sick of Kill Team's shape measuring system.

When is the next edition of Kill Team? Or is Kill Team different from the cycle of Warhammer 40k codex releases?Feels like it is just getting started if you want my honest opinion, but knowing GW I'm not expecting Kill Team to last as long as DnD 5E has lasted so far.
>>92613584Theres been no official statement on the matter, but if it follows the typical 3 year cycle then we would be due for a new edition towards the end of this yearThough it would likely just be the same core ruleset with some tweaks and updates, like they just did with Necromunda not too long ago
>>92613630>but if it follows the typical 3 year cycle then we would be due for a new edition towards the end of this yearWell then. I dunno what to say. I fairly recently bought some Kill Team books (core rule book and Octarius) in case Wahapedia goes down for myself and for a friend for his upcoming birthday along with Kill Team essentials for him. Maybe the new edition will just be a stat wise overhaul and our books will still be valid like what GW did with 8th going into 9th edition, but something tells me that won't be the case. There may be some "change for the sake of change" changes made.At least me and buddy will be set up in case the new edition sucks ass to stick with Kill Team 2021 and Wahapedia goes down. At least that's how I'm gonna cope.
>>92614152It would be a really, really bad idea to fully overhaul KT considering the ruleset is so good, we'll probably get a few changes to line of sight/obscuring and that's it.
>If the rumors are true kill team will be getting rules for flying modelsYet another reason to stick to gallowdark.
>>92612998>rules for flying modelsSo melee teams are fucked against those?Rules for stuff that stays in the air can*t be hit in melee but can't take objectives as long as they are up? Perma Vantagepoint never in Engagement range ignores all terrain and models, sounds like a pain in the butt.
>>92612998I just dont see it happening except maybe to say something like "no more then one operative can fly per team and it works the way it used to" the terrain seems too varied (even just in the sets they release) to balance fliers in any meaningful way except to say 'it's ignore gaps, climb falls and you still have to end your move on a legal square'.
>>92612998Extremely doubtful considering Void Dancers just lost flying.
>>92580389I got into killteam with the Mandrake portion of the Nightmare box, what am I in for? I got into them because they look cool and their rules/lore is kinda neat, but I'm curious as to what experienced killteamers can tell me about what to expect. What I know so far is >Aeldari so fragile as fuck>faction ability and how most of my shit gets better from targets being in shadow>I should probably focus on picking up kills with the COTF as soon as possibleAnything else?
>>92603917T'au water caste infiltrators and/or assassinsI think water rather than fire caste because it makes the most sense to have your assassins blend in with the non combatants
>>92615255Focus your weird ranged attacks on 2 APL models because their saves are fucked against it. You're the middle ground between Archon and Corsairs, meaning you've got good positioning tricks and kill potential but you don't excel at either. Try to strike a balance and use hit and run tactics, try to focus on fighting around objectives.
>>92615255It's too early for me to say if it's a foolproof strategy but try to focus on claiming positional tac ops early for free. Secure Vantage, Recover Item, etc
>>92615695I was thinking about that quite a bit actually. How high is survivability in killteam? Could I reasonably expect to kill a guardsman in a single activation with a mandrake shooty time, or would I need to use the 'wreathed in balefire' thing?>>92615765That also caught my eye, but I waved it off a bit. I didn't think an entire killteam having a sort of deep strike would allow them to just autowin on some objectives, I was sure there was some sort of caveat I was missing.
nids when
>>92615844Most guardsmen (8 wound, +5 save) models die from a single shooting attack or melee, but they make up for it by having a shitload of them. You should expect to get a kill so long as you're trying to deny cover, but always ask yourself is that kill worth it. Vet Guard have 14 bodies to trade for your 9. He can afford to put two guys out of position just to put wounds on one of your important models.Your balefire debuff should go on someone you're trying to focus down, usually an enemy gunner or important operative.

>>92615255Try to have fun with it? That might seem a little basic but it can be hard to remember in amongst the sweaty tryhardness. I still dont see anons bragging about their survive times from the new set.
>>92617440After the most recent buffs you don’t have to be so hasty in activating sorcerers first. All of your guns are AP1 so chew through bad saves like butter. Also think about giving your sorcerer with Tempyric spells the ability to fly because flying to the top of a vantage point on T1 to shoot a Fluxblast into your opponent’s deployment zone then using Capricious Plan to change back to Conceal is really fucking funny.

>>92617440It's just a lot of rules options to keep track of. Find ways to simplify them in your mind and it should be a lot easier. As for specific tips, you should always make sure your Ephemeral Instability is active since it's a team-wide effect and really annoying. The team is really good at alpha strikes because of the mobility of Fly allowing you to get up high and throw a psychic attack on something, Warp Portal allowing a gunner to get up on a vantage point and shoot twice, and Firestorm having Indirect. Overall it's just using your tzaangors and rubrics to act as a first line of defence while the sorcerers dart around the backline, then getting those sorcerers to deliver the right psychic powers at the right time.Oh, and the khopesh is pretty brutal actually, really lets the sorcerers go to town in melee with the relentless it gives.

>>92619925Painting my heirotek circle next and then my backlog is done. Thinking about what team I'll got for after that. Leaning towards chaos cult now they have been nerfed enough that I won't feel like an asshole for playing them.
>>92617695It's basically two teams jammed together the elite rubrics and the lead by an elite or two tzaangors. They have the best flammer in the game (2/4 with AP1) but that shit is still range 6 on 'slow' team so not that good. You can double them (but at 3AP). 3 Sorcs is popular but you can run them as Wish Felgore if you want to (and even Wish Felgore but with a smidge of good ranged support should get your panties wet). I feel like their Inferno Boltgun Gunline is waiting to be discovered. (the already good boltgun shooting line with free double attacks and AP1? and invuls?) but the boost was only a few months ago, lots of things for everyone to still discover for them. >I;m still trying to find oldhammer tzaangors and rubrics to use.
>>92619974Nah, the stopped them from going ding ding dong, it was embarrassing to even call it a nerf.
>>92620564>play a game against Exaction squad before the most recent buffs>3 Sorc, 1 Gunner, 4 tzaangors>guy is telling me about how the shields always let him be the attacker in melee>okay so this means my tzaangors always lose in melee since his weapons are 4/4>I just teleport my gunner on a vantage point and kill both of his gunners in one activation>game ends 18-9 my favor>The thought dawns on me that if I just did 3 Sorc, 3 Rubric that game would’ve just been a slaughterfestI like melee but yeah the gunline could be oppressive if i’m throwing out up to 9 AP1 shooting attacks per turn.
>>92621357You risk losing some APL that way but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if their buffs were walked back. there are a handful of compendium teams that are unliked because they play different (generally slow teams) not because they are really underpowered.
I thought about it, are there area denial skills/weapons? Like molotow that burns on the ground or something? Wouldn't that be a nice fix for flamers, making them proactive giving the enemy the choice to take damage or run around in setting a specific spot on fire? Seems like a neat mechanic in my eyes.
>>92622347The Utility Grenade that Hearthkyn get works kind of like an area denial weapon, though it doesn't do damage. Might be a template to look at.
>>92622347Phobos have a proximity mine that automatically detonates when someone moves close to itScouts can set up booby traps that have a chance to explode when someone moves near them. And also tripwires that can strip conceal from modelsHierotek have a mine that slows all enemies in an area
>get pic related for my birthday>never played KT beforewhat am I in for?
>>92622403>>92622524Yea the slow effekts from Hearthkyn and Hierotek are less area denial in my eyes and give no real decision making, you loose movement in both cases (or stay put). The Phobos mine is more what i had in mind just that the fire would dissapear after a turn or so. If the Mine stays it is less a time consumer or dmg and more a who do i sacrifice decision. No idea about the Scout traps but i guess they are similar to the Phobos mine. Need to read that, luckily the rules are free.
>>92622649You could just give flamers the ability to do something similar - place down a token that has a chance to deal MW to anyone who comes within a certain radius until the end of the turning point
>>92622671Exactly something like that was in my mind just tweaking that a bit.
>>92622671>>92622715Just making it vanish at the end of Turning point.Lowering damage to d3 and making it less likely to get hit if you charge or dash instead of more likely.

>>92622606a lot of time spent with your models before you are ready to playthe game is nice too
>>92623141>a lot of time spent with your models before you are ready to playcan you elaborate?
>>92623197You have build and clean and paint them. It's fun but also time consuming. If you've never built or painted miniatures before, there are lots of tutorials on youtube and you don't have to necessarily buy a lot of supplies. There are a lot of brands that make miniature paints and tools and most of them are pretty good, but not all of them are reasonably priced. Miniature paints have much finer consistency than craft paints and I don't recommend trying to use craft paints unless you are a masochist. At a minimum you will need:>fine tipped wire cutters or hobby clippers>a hobby knife>brushes>acrylic miniature paints.>rattle can of acrylic primer from any hardware store>wax paper to use a palette from any grocery store (don't use parchment paper as it's porous)>butanone based plastic welding agent, sometimes called "plastic glue", to assemble the model (don't use an epoxy)You can use cyanoacrylate based super glues too but welding the model together is must stronger and will have fewer gaps.
Figuring out the priority of what I need to get painted to get ready to go. So far I've already painted an Aspiring Champion and a Shrivetalon. I have waiting on the table:> Butcher> Icon Bearer> Plasma Gunner> Anointed> Chosen> Heavy Bolter heavy gunner> Melta gunnerAnd an unbuilt Missile heavy gunner. Parts for an Acolyte are on the way but won't arrive until late next week, so it's low on the priority list.Am I probably best off ignoring the melta, chosen (since these two are mutually exclusive with other stuff), and icon bearer, and painting the other four to get up to a six-man team for a demo game? Most of the KT community around here is larger teams like vet guard, so the Butcher feels like he'll do more work than the Icon Bearer will since I'll be outnumbered 2:1 or more with a lot of bodies he can one hit kill. The plasma gunner is a no brainer to include, and I feel like the heavy bolter is in a similar situation (didn't have parts for a chaincannon).
Generic operatives should give you extra EP.

>>92617682I would love to do that, but if my intro to 40k taught me anything, it's that my first pickup games are going to be against weirdos who want to 'teach' me by stomping my face in. Oh wise /ktg/, please clarify for me - can an Apprentek now not use Rites of Reanimation? It's no longer an action you take but the Apprentek doesn't have the ability
>>92624921They're both super fun, but nemesis claw is easier to play if you're concerned about winning.
>>92625459Strictly RAW you can't anymore, but Rules as Intended the change was made so you can use the "action" reactively rather than preventively, so you should still be able to use it with your Apprentek.
>>92603917Some generic marines, but they don't keep nerfing them
>>92624921Mandrakes look based as all hell.
>>92625459To be frank, RAW you can't use it at all, not even with the Cryptec because the rules say he can select actions from the list not abillitys. So technically you aren't allowed to select Rites of Reanimation anymore.
>>92624921>Mandrakes look based as all hell.Mandrakes don't look bad but honestly I enjoy elite teams so that's one vote for Night Lords from me.
>>92624921Take my ideas here with a grain of salt since I'm the anon who JUST got in with Mandrakes, but- The Night Lords look to really play on that whole "hunting the weak and helpless" aesthetic. Brutal melee and debuffs paired with equipment that can flat out deny dice rerolls. Then you have that vox scream, and the prescience token abilities pairing up to form some real "spread terror in their ranks, disrupt their game plan, and then butcher them" bullshit.Meanwhile the Mandrakes look to be forcing foes to rethink well learned patterns of cover and vantage point hugging from the get go. Huge mobility, fucky firearms (heh), and a melee operative who I am eager to farm APL with. Their strategems are fairly insane from what I can understand too,.

Hi frens, I'm relatively new to the WH40K tabletop experience. I've mainly read books/watched shorts and just recently got a job that has let me spend a bit on some minis just for painting/collecting. 40K is not big on my country, so I'm looking to get into KillTeam or Combat Patrol, so I can get a bunch of minis at once from factions I like. I aim to buy two boxes so I can collect and also lend one of them to my friends to play together. How are KT and CB different? Which one is more newb friendly? Any type of advice is appreciated.
>>92627465Combat Patrol is a way to play 40k proper using lower points totals (around 500), which still typically involves fielding multiple full squads of dudesKill Team is a totally separate game/ruleset from 40k proper which focuses around the equivalent of a single squad of units (Most teams are between 6 and 14 dudes)Comparing the two is kind of apples to oranges. Big 40k, for example, has one player move, shoot, and fight with their entire army at once and then the other player does the same. In Kill Team, each player takes turns moving a single dude at a time
>>92627499Ok ok, gotcha. So I would imagine that given the ammount of units, Kill Team is faster paced? Cheaper too?
KT nightmare box is restocked on GW site
>>92627599Many newer kill teams are sold as a single one-and-done box. Although some teams may require extra models/boxes if you want to have/build all available options. But yes, for the price of a single combat patrol box you can easily get multiple kill teams
>>92627599Two kill teams cost less than/the same as one combat patrol
>>92627625>>92627620Understood, ty for the info. I'll get into reading the rules and checking what sets I could get. Ty again.

>>92612195the thing I dislike most is how the number of sides/corners on the shapes do not correspond with the number of inches.like for fucks sake they use a pentagon for 6 inches and a square for 3 inches.
>>92630953way worse is circle for 2 and triangle for 1 . there is no logic in this at all, if they sayed fine the less corners the shorter the range or whatever. i just use a ruler, the measurement things from bighammer or the long stick they gave in the starterset that is 6, painted the sections white black blue and use it for all measurments ignoring the shapes and orienting with color or inch.

Played against the Nemesis Claws today. Won 19 to 18, though the map was a bit... I'll call it designed for casual play. Maybe not super balanced, more made to look cool and for fun.It was still rough for the night lords despite the activation manipulation. Ultimately I could still just out-delay his activations and set up more threats than he could counter. He did get use out of Vox-Scream and Portent though, they're not useless. In Midnight Clad really is mostly a way of deploying further forward as it turns out, dropping a barricade and deploying in front of it in conceal is funny (especially since as soon as the night lord hides BEHIND the barricade it stops providing obscurement from vantage points). He sort of failed to use it though by deploying a lot in Engage.Pic related is his Skin-Thief who just refused to take damage, facing off against my Questkeeper Agent.

its double the gallowdark set. in rare cases missions even use two sets and i learned if you make narrative custom missions (especially with the inofficial Acolyte adon) its better to have two sets.

Does anyone have the Nightmare PDF?
>>92635108Have to admit I am looking forward to something more colourful to paint for Chaos.>How do I make a decentish Slannesh Legionaries team anyway? No Butcher, Claw guy, psycher mc Psychic stuff and Warriors to fill the gaps?
>>92635354I want Sonic weapons and an acolyte of Bile and a guy hopped up on stims who can jam a syringe of super cocaine in his chest to be super powerful for one turn in exchange for being really shitty and possibly dying afterwards
>>92632367yea and heavy bolter/butcher are probably the better last 2 slot to fill out a team (I am not biased towards melee trust me dude)
>>92580389>Striking scorpions often depicted in jungle or otherwise fauna heavy environments>Scouts likewise are often depicted in forests and dense wilderness >Box features both scorpions and scouts>Says fuck nature>But doesnt even put them in urban enviroment where theyd both excell either>Put them high up in the sky on narrow pass ways with no where to hideIts indefensible
Are scouts fun? Running a shotgun team sounds like it would be.
>>92636877They're kinda weak upfront. If you like flexing and completing like 10 VP turns because your doing secondaries and abusing that first turn its great. >Shotguns are kinda great, Remind me of Melta's with no MW but evened out damage. And you got enough guys that you could take like six or seven of them and just bum rush people.
How are the veteran guardsmen kill teams currently? Did they get badly nerfed or are they still good?
I missed out on the gallowdark sets and am considering getting some terrain for it. Are the close quarters rules fun?
>>92637267Yeah, personally I prefer them over the regular outdoor maps.
What's the most cost effective way to get into Kill Team? I have tyranids so I don't think they can be used.
>>92638523Buy the starter set, keep the kommandos, tokens, and measuring tools, then sell the guardsmen and terrain.
>>92638523The nid compendium team uses warriors, stealers, and/or gaunts so if you have those in your collection you could make a functioning team. Its even pretty good as far as compendium teams go. Then, assuming you also have suitable terrain, you could just pick up the KT Essentials box and be more or less good to goOtherwise you can just do what the above anon said and get the starter set
>>92638185Everyone does.
Termination is a pretty good name for a box set that completely kills my interest. For the first time a KT box might not sell out the first 4 hours.
>>92638765You say that, but I've seen plenty of people excited for the leather jackets and a lot of interest in how the top brass models of the brood brothers will work. The terrain is the main thing I'm worried about (though that probably won't have too much of an impact on sales) since it's just two big blocks.
>>92638765>since it's just two big blocks. Two large impressive blocks are great functional terrain. Also I concur, there's been a lot of local talk about how cool the robot in a duster is and how exciting a brood patriarch is. I'm also uninterested in the box but I expect it will sell out instantly like the others.
>>92638765The only way i’m spending money in this is if someone around me is getting a box and doesn’t want the genestealers.Genestealer kazzies don’t particularly interest me but if I can get them pretty cheap they might be good practice for urban camo.
I hope the next kill team set has an imperial guard detachment. Maybe vs xenos.
>>92638765>For the first time a KT box might not sell out the first 4 hours. Here, interest for KT seems to have died down already. From various onlinestores i can still buy the Scouts vs Scorpions box (in both, german and english) and even the Nightlords box is still available in german. In comparison, the box with the beastmen, and the Inquisition box sold out instantly everywhere i looked, and all the boxes before too.
Building these for my kid. Custom chapter called the Shrikes. Dubious founding, supposedly a Raven Guard successor but love to indulge in shock tactics like staking enemy corpses in front of their own outposts to demoralize the surviving troops. Just like the bird.
>>92639206Sounds like Night Lord tactics
>>92636970SolidStill out-activate everyone except blooded, bring enough heavy guns to shift anything, solid tacops
>>92638523Absolute cheapest way is, get some intercessors for free from GW stores or people if possible the snapfit things so you don't need to buy glue. buy a ruler with inch/zoll. buy some brushes and at least 3 colors (if you are lucky and your gw store makes a painting tutorial day or something you don't need paints or brushes and can paint there 1 or two models for free). otherwise regular old guardsmen/spacemarines could be found very cheap on ebay, or what the other anons sayed.
>>92638765>might not sell out the first 4 hours.I hope so, because that is the box i was waiting for this season (other then the tyranid bespoke team that will probably never come). The terrain is ... okay, i use shipping containers or similar a lot anyways.
>>92638765Have we seen the terrain feature(s) from this bix yet? Is it that big yellow decompression chamber?
>>92639236Hence the "supposedly Raven Guard" I'm assuming.
>>92639749Two big blocks, yeah. >>92638853>Two large impressive blocks are great functional terrainFor sure, I love my container terrainIt's just that I think if there is one thing Bheta-Decima already has, it would be tall vantage point platforms with nothing to conceal behindThe rounded edges are also going to lead to some wonky cover lines, and I'm wondering how they're going to handle thatlittle stairway they haveWe saw this with the nightmare terrain piece already where it looks cool but needs two pages of rules clarifications to work in KT, it feels like some of this stuff was not designed with KT in mindI'm still curious what the final season box will bring though
Which Kill Team are these meant to represent?
>>92640014Non they are just complementary models to give your team or your army or "dnd" nice unique characters.
>>92640014Could be inquisition or just be a collection of regimental advisors for 40k Guard.
>>92615255Played with the Mandrakes. Neat discovery is that ploys affecting rerolls of 1 for defense dice become entirely useless to balefire. The soul gem while clearly useful into the non elite matchups, made each and every mandrake warrior I gave it to a serious board-hopping threat. Shadow portal opened TP1 into the heart of a dense block of terrain turned his activations into a game of cat and mouse, because he didn't want me to get the chance to use the terrain ignore ploy to charge him or get crucial LOS with a soul gem enhanced warrior. Dirgemaw also locked out an extremely important operative, and the Abyssal is a ranged monster, even more than expected. Overall take on this team and killteam as a whole is that I might never go back to large scale 40k, this was absurdly fun.
>>92640217It's funny to me how much people were going crazy about the Nemesis Claw being the next stupidly op team when the Mandrakes are obviously some broken bullshit.
>>92640074>>92640079I was just wondering which theyd work for. Maybe Inquisition or Rogue Trader
>>92640388depends on the guy. middle low guy would go for imp teams, the top right guy as a psycer would probably go nowhere in killteam, the middle top guy inquisition or whoever can get a nice pistol same with low left. the others get more and more hard to put in killteam
>>92640014Atreides, duh.
>>92639206Crows are far more sinister than ravens.
>>92640362To be fair, I had my chooser of the flesh and the Shadeweaver deleted off the face of the earth by a simple move and shoot from melta and plasma kasrkin veterans and those elite points turning into MW. From what we both could see, firing at me without a special weapon while I was in shadow/cover meant the mandrake was likely to survive, but outside of it and I was like a snowflake on a hot summer day.
>>92638970Honestly the fact that two boxes in a row aren’t imperium is an oddity. So at this point I’d say we’re due.
>>92639124That has nothing to do with interest and everything to do with Ashes of Faith's obscenely low print run.
>>92640617Umm, excuse me? The new box clearly has the brave soldiers of the Astra Militarum in it.
