It's still shit, these voters don't understand football beyond the extremely superficial level so they just used to pick Messi, Ronaldo or a player that won the CL. The official FIFA award is slightly better since it actually includes players and managers in the voting, but even that's still tainted by clueless media representatives and public voters.

Although the general idea of trying to pick a single "best player" in a team sport is inherently stupid anyway. Each position on the pitch requires a different skillset and it's impossible to truly pick one person as the best. Kids on a school playground arguing over who the "best player" is would be understandable, but grown adults doing it is retarded.
