Good news everyone, Arctic ice accumulation is above average for this time of year compared to the average for this century so far. Seems like the global warming doomsday scenarios that so many scientists have been predicting aren't coming true, isn't that great news? I know you're ecstatic to hear it, especially the people who are so concerned about the environment, they should be extra happy to see this good news.
>>
>>16073486
What about year-round ice? I'm sure that's a better indicator of arctic stability.

i don't think you understand how this works. more greenhouse gasses means more energy flows through the atmosphere. more energy flow also means more water vapor which gets deposited all over the world, including the arctic. the problem is all that ice is going to melt by the years end even if it was more by the end of the year it's going to be less. screenshot this
>>
>>16073494
the arctic is melting. notice the oscillations around the average are more pronounced and that's going to continue getting worse as global warming takes off
>>
>>16073501
I mean, that is what we would expect if ice were quickly melting/reforming.
>>
>>16073506
that's correct. global warming doesn't mean less ice in the arctic. more energy is trapped in the system so everything is worse, this includes winters, droughts, storms, tornadoes, and any other type of dynamic weather event like atmospheric rivers. there is more water vapor everywhere and water is also a greenhouse gas so everything is going to get more and more extreme

>>16073486
Look, just fuck off with all this climate change bullshit. From BOTH sides. You are all idiots. There is so much other shit happening that it is almost irrelevant whether climate change, or whatever term it carries now, is real or not.
Biodiversity loss, habitat destruction, over grazing, over fishing, not to mention atmospheric, ground and water pollution are more important threats and furthermore are undeniably real.
Sometime I think this obsession with climate change is just being used as a smokescreen to distract people from thinking about the consequences of the actual environmental problems that exist. Climate change is vague, its uncertain, its open to debate. A great way to tie people up in knots pissing around arguing for decades to come while more plastic shit is dumped into oceans, as more water tables are contaminated, and more species go extinct.

Besides all that climate change is also irrelevant for reasons most normies and Greta fans ignore: If man made Climate change is real and disaster looms then there is fuck we can do about it. Why? Because China and India. That's why. Try getting those locusts to change. If on the other hand catastrophic climate change is entirely natural then there is still fuck all we can do about it, so suck it up.

>Climate scientists and politician allies: The climate is an incredibly complex periodic stochastic thermodynamic system. There are literally hundreds of variables at play.
>Also scientists and politician allies: Really only one variable, CO2 concentration in the atmosphere, significantly influence temperatures.
One should always be extremely skeptical when people boil very complex systems down to one variable. It's like having a large pool of data that is scattered across a graph in a very complex way and then simply drawing a straight line through it and calling it good.

Why would you assume that the system hasn't been studied extensively? The reason CO2 is focused on is because the scale of CO2 emissions make it the dominant driver of climate change. Moreover, when you hear people talk about carbon dioxide they often mean the carbon dioxide equivalent as calculated using the global warming potential of all greenhouse gas emissions over a specific time horizon.

That's not how photosynthesis works.
>>
>>16129971
No it isn't. Go be a retard somewhere else.
>>
>>16130879
Here you go, retard. Notice how the energy is not stored for billions of years, but is used by the plant to live and grow.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthesis
>To use the chemical energy stored in these organic compounds, the organisms' cells metabolize the organic compounds through another process called cellular respiration.
>>
>>16130879
>>16130975
You know what? Fuck it. Let's pretend that plants violate thermodynamics and store all of the chemical energy they photosynthesize for billions of years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthetic_efficiency
>5.4% net leaf efficiency.
So if you covered every square in h of the Earth you would still have 94.6% of the energy of the sun.

>Photosynthesis increases linearly with light intensity at low intensity, but at higher intensity this is no longer the case (see Photosynthesis-irradiance curve). Above about 10,000 lux or ~100 watts/square meter the rate no longer increases. Thus, most plants can only use ~10% of full mid-day sunlight intensity.[6] This dramatically reduces average achieved photosynthetic efficiency in fields compared to peak laboratory results.
Oh wait, that's more like 99.46% of the energy from the sun. And that's if all the land and sea were completely covered with photosynthetic mass. Even if photosynthesis worked the way you think it does, which it doesn't, photosynthetic efficiency is so low that it doesn't matter anyways.
