I saved a car from a flood 2 years ago, I didn't waste any time the next day I was tearing the interior apart and shampooing everything and did white vinegar sun baking cycles the entire week. It came out great and the car still smells great today, but OP made me realize I didn't tear the fucking carpet up so it's probably FUCKED underneath.

I was going to call you a little bitch for shitting yourself for almost nonexistent surface rust, but that's very based of you to strangle it before it got any worse.Did you slather black shit straight to the burred metal, or did you primer paint it first? Shouldn't really matter, but I've had undercoating peel off with old paint
>>27596825That whole floor has been replaced before so I feel like my reaction is completely warranted.I primered it with some shitass zinc primer, the black schmoo is hammerite applied thick with a brush. Decided it was gonna be a good sealant after I painted my steelies and ran them for a winter with no issues.

I need to solve bad rust and I can't weld, what can I do?
>>27604016learn how to weld. you can buy a decent MIG welder for around $1,000.maybe less for a used unit.maybe sounds like a lot of money but it's a lifetime item.it's worth learning.

Tried spraying an RX8 with Waxoyle. This thing's rotting like a corpse in a hot tub.
>>27604163here's my problem with lower cost MIG welders.it's often times harder to get good welds with a cheap unit.I've used some $200 ish MIG and it was near unusable.while higher end units are a breeze to train on.I was a aerospace welder for a while so I'm not some random welder.(anything glowing in this pic is the stuff I welded)
>>27604648Next time don't spray the exhaust, then it won't stink so bad.

my Subaru Outback has this rust on the quarter panel. just interested in removing the rust and reinforcing. I don’t care so much if it looks good. you can’t really get the quarter panel replaced. well, you can it’s just insanely expensive cause it’s a huge piece. should I grind it out, treat it and panel bond a patch on to it? (I don’t have a welder.) maybe panel bind the piece from behind the panel and fill the depression with bondo or cat hair?
>>27611205If it's bubbling like that, it's coming from behind. Once you have bubbles it's already through. "Removing" the bubbles/rust would automatically include removing the whole panel, since all that's left is maybe a few small layers of crispy flakes and the paint itself holding over a hole coming from behind. It's always weird with rust. People freak out over surface rust they can see, which generally is fixable from a surface level and much preferable, but don't seem to mind as much the paint bubbles which implies it's already too late to fix beyond just welding new panels. t. 30 year salt belt dweller
>>27611205It's probably pretty ugly under that paint, but at least it's not structural so you could cut out any crap and use fiberglass mat to patch it up. You should definitely try to remove the panel if you can, there's probably junk blocking a drain hole or something else going on underneath to cause the problem.
>>27596247wire wheels are trash, use a clean and strip wheel, it deletes rust and is a hundred times easier to wield.

Posted this in the honda general. I think I can take care of the rust on the bottom, even the hole with some mesh + filler, but the area in the wheel-well is throwing me off. Can you weld on metal at an angle? Should I just straighten it out as much as I can with a hammer, grind of the rust, then use mesh and filler too?>t. never welded before

I'm taking delivery of a new car next couple weeks.I live squarely in the suburbs of the American northern midwest, with salted and brined roads every winter.I want to keep my new car nice.Is a professionally-applied, spray-on undercoating worth it?Something like Fluid Film.

>>27596945Honestly, you could reskin a car in a pakishop. Really doesn't take any special tools or a lot of space, just a bit of time and patience. You only really need a lift for floors.>>27599149Kek, it's surprisingly a lot cheaper and a lot easier to just put new panels on instead of fixing what's there.
>>27618194Fluid film swells rubber and gets messy as fuck. It's good for inner cavities but anything external is a greasy mess and needs to be reapplied annually and touched up seasonally at the hotspots where it just washes off. It also makes your car disgusting to wrench on since it collects all the road dust and smears on your arms and anything it touches.Woolwax is thicker/less smeary and holds up better. Slight issue with the messiness though.Cosmoline is imo the best longterm solution and is the cleanest. It doesnt smear or collect much dirt after it dries so wrenching on your car isnt an issue. It's also the most impervious to abuse. Even a pressure washer wont take it off. You need petroleum based solvents to remove it.Touch up the cosmoline 1x a year, and after the 3rd year you can probably do it once every 2yrs or more if you dont drive much
>>27619485Forgot to mention cosmoline is safe on almost all surfaces youll find under your car. It doesnt swell rubber/plastics. You can even spray it over electrical connections and exposed contacts to weatherproof them.I think the reason it doesnt get much love is because it's too much of a permanent solution and no one can really make money off of it as opposed to those annual rustproofing solutions that last a few seasons at best. I also suspect fluidfilm pays a lot of its reviewers or give them benefits to advertise it. Its a decent product but requires maintenance which means consistant revenues. Literally a subscription service to keep your car rust free...
