>this made milennials piss and shitcum their pants
I'M ROOOOMANCING
>>
>>121541899
desu it's not even that good, i legitimately don't understand the recent praise for this album in particular, a lot of it just feels overly theatrical and dramatic in this cringeworthy way. The sound just feels dated and overdone

If I had to pick a 2000s "emo" album I'd probably go with A Fever You Can't Sweat Out
>>
>>121541899

>millennial teenagers liked shitty music

please share more of your insights anon I have never seen a take as nuanced or original as yours
>>
>>121541899
One of the worst bands I have eve heard
>>
>>121543008
The issue is people now making it out that this album is some sort of masterpiece. Like I get it in the era it's in but it doesn't hold up at all
>>
36 year old here. We relentlessly made fun of the emos who liked My Chemical Romance at the time and mocked their runny mascara.
The only song they made that was alright was Teenagers. The lyrics are shit, but the music is a pretty rocking blues song.
>>
>>121543207
Black Parade doesn't hold up one bit, but American Idiot from the same period does
>>
I was listening to my disturbed godsmack compilation when my sister came into my room and told me to put on her new chemical romance cd that our mom just bought and i was like bitch if you don't leave i will pile drive you
>>
>>121541899
I'm sure Gerard Way crushed it back in 2000 whatever but its funny to be an adult and realise how derpy they all look, that emo look really didn't age well if you're a guy
>>
>>121541899
they are reverse terrorism. muslim kids died because of this
>>
>>121543008
I know it isn't a smart or good thing to say that at all but I just find it funny, in the end it doesn't matter, I will avoid your subjectively shitty music
>>
>Fallout Boy
>My Chemical Romance
>Bullet for My Valentine
>Green Day
These were the bands that made me pull my teeth out in secondary/high school. Fucking everyone liked them and they were always on tv.
>>
>>121545081
AND IN THE END
IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER
>>
>>121543402
The day the video for The Black Parade dropped.. oh god.
>>
>>121547028

>>
>>121541899

>>
>>121547234
Taylor Swift level hysteria.
>>
The Used
Aiden
Thrice
Saosin
were really underrated bands from the hot topic punk era
>>
>>121541899
I Don't Love You is a fantastic song in my opinion. There's a few other pretty good ones on that album but yeah other than that they're not all that great. I do feel like they're one of those bands that people like to shit on without giving a fair shake though. Like they're not great but really not THAT bad either.
>>
I didn't like My Chemical Romance, I liked Burnout 3
>>
>>121547281
lies
>>
>>121547298
love The Used
>>
>>121547298
The Used is a sleeper hit, I love hottopiccore in general but The Used have really grown on me of late
>>
>>121547336
They're perfectly competent, as we get further away from the cultural moment people will find the songs they like and ignore the rest, and the true diehards will always love their shit. They're not horrible, and they were great showmen, so they'll age better than most of the shit from that era. It's inevitable.
>>
>>121543028
listen to more music
>>
>>121541899
Compare them to modern rock
Rock is in such an abysmal state right now
>>
>>121541899
Actually millennial thought it was gay af. If you listened to shit like this, falloutboy, all American rejects, panic at the disco, boys like girls, you were a certified homo. The only people who listened to shit like that when it came out were 10 year old girls.
>>
>>121551761
I dunno man a lot of the scene guys who liked it fucked a lot of the scene girls who liked it
>>
>>121547298
Don't forget circa survive, moneen, alexisonfire, silverstein, senses fail, underoath, hellogoodbye, dead poetic, emery, scary kids scaring kids, fear before the March of flames, before today, alesana, I can make a mess like nobody's business, the early November. I could go on.
>>
>>121551790
Those bands all suck L O L
>>
>>121551782
Scene kids from back then were more likely to listen to >>121551790 these bands then fucking my chemical romance. My chemical romance was for the little girls that listened to Avril Lavigne and wore a tie to school and carried a skateboard but never rode it. I would know. I was there.
>>
>>121551814
I was there too you finook
They listened to MCR too
>>
>>121551824
Did they do it ironically? We used to listen to hellogoodbye ironically because they were so gay we found it funny.
>>
>>121551739
I don't even know what constitutes modern rock. Everyone I know who's into RAWK listens mostly to old shit, and then it's all "real country" like Turnpike Trubadours and shitty wigger rap like Suicide Boyz. I guess it's a testament to your point that rock is in a worse state now than then, but what even is rock now? Dirty Honey?
>>
>>121542128
>A Fever You Can't Sweat Out
it's mad how much genre-bending there is in that album
it really comes close to virtuosic - like Bungle, or S.C.I.E.N.C.E.-era Incubus before them
>>
They were good pre sell out. Three cheers and whatever album demolition lovers was on brought the energy
>>
>>121551721
I did
>>
>>121551956
Anon Three Cheers was the sell out album
Bullets is a post hardcore album a out drowning your girlfriend
>>
>>121552011
And yet they’re still sonically better than anything on black parade. Three cheers didn’t even go platinum it was nominally successful. If they kept what they had they wouldn’t have been as renowned for the time but also not half as annoying either
>>
>>121551790
only good ones you listed were circa survive, alexisonfire, (SOME) senses fail, (SOME) emery, and underoath. the rest is gay and i'll rape you
>>

The only good band he posted was fear before the March of flames and its hilarious how none of you even know who that band is. Actually let's keep it that way.

Gen X Wizards are the ones insisting that it's good and also pretending that "Boomer music" wasn't. Zoomers are 90% of the audiance for Magma and probably Krautrock. Obviously Steely Dan too.
>>
I'm 32 and only like a few songs by MCR back in the day. Never actually listened to a full album by them till a few years ago when I was feeling nostalgic. I genuinely like Three Cheers, and think it has tons of catchy great moments. Black Parade is alright. But yeah you would get called an emo fag for liking them back then if you weren't a teen girl.

half of all zoomers don't even know what magma or krautrock is and the ones who know who steely dan is only know it because of their dads or the radio.

00s music was horrible. The first couple of years maybe up until 2003 you still had a few great albums coming out (mostly by good bands from the 90s like White Stripes, Radiohead, QOTSA or the Strokes), but that´s about it. Emo was horrible. It was boybands with guitars trying to be edgy and failing miserably at it. everything was so fake.

Yes you're right this doesn't hold up. Considering the only ones back in the late 2000s who listened to this were obnoxious theater kids, it makes perfect sense. Popular music back then had more weirdo representation. It was a better time for music overall than it is now, so it's a moot point.

Calling MCR the big millennial artist is revisionist, because they were literally only significant to very late millennials.

The oldest millennials, who are nearing 40 now, were into nu metal, pop punk, and post-grunge - The Offspring, old Green Day, Linkin Park, Korn, that kind of stuff.

Middle millennials, which is my group, were into those garage rock revival and post-punk revival artists like The White Stripes, The Strokes, The Hives, The Vines, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Interpol, Bloc Party, etc.

Late millennials were into emo-pop and melodic metalcore - MCR, Panic! At the Disco, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage, etc.

By the time the Hot Topic/scene kid era was happening, the middle millennials had moved onto p4kcore stuff like MGMT and Fleet Foxes.

I actually think MCR's standing as a classic is most solid among zoomers, since the emo backlash was so big among millennials.

For me, I think nu metal mostly sucks, but there were a few good metal bands that dabbled in it like Sepultura/Soulfly. I never liked The Offspring and I think Green Day are overrated, but I think blink-182 was a fun band and Sum 41 are underrated. I do think the garage rock revival mostly turned out kind of mediocre, but I still love The Libertines, Bloc Party, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I think the major emo-pop bands were kinda bad, but I think Paramore turned into a fantastic indie dance band, and I think the earliest post-hardcore bands of that movement, like Jimmy Eat World, Taking Back Sunday, and Brand New, are great bands, who led to some great later stuff like Touche Amore.

Even more revisionism that older millennials, like my decrepit self, didn't listen to MCR. Of course we did, but like every good member of the scene in those days we dumped them as soon as they became popular. Back in those days being on a major label was frowned upon and being popular meant you had "sold out".

Side note: The modern corporate love-in is truly one of the startling changes I've witnessed in my life.

But yeah, my friends and I kinda dug the first album, rough as it was. But already by I'm Not Okay it became clear that MCR were going to be another Fallout Boy that we'd need to dump.

This. Just like people try to lump the entire Gen X into grunge and especially Nirvana. That is revisionist bullshit. They only were big with late Gen X and grunge was actually the least mainstream form of rock that was popular during Gen X era (A lot of gen Xers kept listening to metal and hard rock during the early 90s, and many shifted to hip hop)

Early Gen Xers (Metal, Post-Punk, Goth, New Wave, Pop Rock): AC/DC, Van Halen, The Police, The Cars, Talking Heads, The Clash, Blondie, Joy Division/New Order, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, The Cure, Siouxsie, Depeche Mode, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, etc.

Middle Gen X (Hair Metal, Post Punk, Trash Metal, Colege Rock): Guns'n'Roses, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Motley Crue, U2, R.E.M, Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Smiths, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, etc.

Late Gen X (Grunge, Alt Rock, Britpop): Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, R.E.M., MVB, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Hootie and The Blowfish, Hole, No Doubt, Alanis Morissette, Radiohead, Oasis, Blur, Pulp, etc.
