Does anyone actually write CSV files by hand? I know certain software exports CSV files so you can import it somewhere else, but I can't imagine a situation or profession where you would need to hand write CSV manually.
>>100136169One time I had to automate a task via Application CLI by using a functionality that called a CSV file to define the scheduled tasks and some parameters. that was a one time thing though. Much more often I needed to manipulate data in CSV files for import between systems but that was done in excel with rules and some BASIC instead of manually.
>>100136241>but that was done in excelThat's what I figured. Like as a file format in general, yes, I can see why it would need to be created and exported and what not, but I'm just trying to think of like a time I'd be like "oh let me just edit this value in a text editor real quick"
>>100136169I've run into this sort of thing a few times.Usually it's a case of "we didn't want to pay a software developer to transfer data automatically between our system and yours, so instead we lumped Dave over there with the task of manually writing CSVs/XMLs/etc., even though we'd be saving massive amounts of money in the long run if we just paid a programmer for like half a day's work".
>>100136327Believe it or not using notepad to edit a CSV file can seriously fuck you up if you save it with ASCII charset (notepad default) instead of UTF-8 (universal standard)
