I've heard it said before that the current internet model is outdated and was not designed with modern problems in mind, like DDoS mitigation, privacy, etc. Are there any alternative internet models that try to address these issues?

are we talking from layer1 up, new cables and everything or do you want to use the existing network and owners of the existing networks and build something on top of eBGP between current ISPs?
