does this mean if someone wrote a video editing application so efficient that it COULD edit H.265 video quickly enough for it to be convenient for the user they could make large amounts of money selling it?

codecs are just zipfiles optimized for videos
you don't edit zipfiles, you extract a file, edit, then pack it back up
the "not as easy to edit" may be referring to way slower encoding, or "rendering"
also, he didn't even mention mkv, I thought ExplainingComputers was a good channel
