Does /g/ have a POE switch?
>>
No, because I'm not running ethernet through concrete when wifi and AC power work fine
>>
Just a shitty 3 bucks switch to connect my shit to the router, nothing fancy.

I have a TL-SG3428XMP. It has 24 POE+ ports and 4 SFP+ ports, which is enough for my entire house. It fully managed too. There's a mikrotik switch which is very similar to this that I nearly bought
>>
>>100127151
just a Mikrotik hEX S with one passive PoE port for my AP
>>
>>100127151
I should set up some security cameras in my house. Would be good exercise.

Yes. Facing out. And in. Amazing how you paranoid losers can take almost anything out of context and either sexualize it, or trivialize it by assuming the absolutely worst case scenario. You algorithmic retards truly need to touch some fucking grass.
>>
>>100127151
Too expensive, got a multiport PoE injector instead and a 48v power supply along with a regular switch.
>>
>>100128857
Yeah, see, the 'expense' is to save you the trouble of that shit. Plug in to ethernet, it literally just works.
>>
>>100127151
No. Installing openwrt on them is a pain, and there's only a few where you can do it at all. I jus use a router as dumb AP and use its switch to have more ports. No poe though.

I dont but my employer has. My employer also has opengear 7100 which is very fucking cool being able to configure switches and routers from the comfort of my office while using serial port
>>
>>100127151
no
>>
Funny you should ask, I have one coming in the post. Plan to get some cheap OpenWRT-capable APs for it and I also have a couple of IP phones with no power adapters that I want to fuck around with
>>
>>100128839
make sure your ipcams are public facing and indexable by camera model and software version!
>>
>>100131080
which APs? i have a bunch of aruba ap105 running openwrt, not fast by current standards (narrowband 5ghz so like 200Mbps in actual use) but good enough for whatever I do on wireless
>>
>>100131125
probably that one ubiquiti AC thing
>>
There is no use case in which a personal home requires a POE switch.
>but muh security cameras
Shouldn't be networked and you shouldn't be living in a place that requires that anyway.
>>
>>100131483
A good POE switch can supply power to a variety of networked devices. I use mine for convenient power on/off cycling where the device itself does not support it over the network.

You can run computers off POE

No real x86/64 computers.

Kinda dumb to imply that using ethernet means it must be connected to the internet and you can't have a separate network
>>
>switch
I don't need you i don't need you
You're like see through i don't see you
>>
>>100128818
the 4chan obsession with these disgusting freaks has gone too far
i'd rather see lolis and gore than this

good post
>>

>have one coming in the post
Which one? Or what are the specs? Does it have more than 250W?
>>
No, instead I bought a nice mean well 12V supply for my cameras
>>
>>100127151
I only own a single appliance that requires PoE and I just bought an injector for it rather than upgrade the connected switch.
>>100131483
>Shouldn't be networked
Should be networked on an isolated vlan with no internet access. Local video storage only.
>>
>>100132009
D-Link DGS-1210-08P
>Does it have more than 250W?
65W total, 30W per port. I don't expect my APs to draw any more than 12W anyway.
>>
>>100132115
cute
>>
Aruba S2500, I need to get rid of that shit though and get a lower power switch, shit takes like 100w near idle. Rock solid and super cheap 10g though.
>>
>>100132600
Yeah. Don't think I can justify a racksize switch just yet. Also, has L2+ management and was cheap.
>>
Networking truly filters /g/. Stick to your $6/mo VPNs.
>>
>>100132847
>100w near idle
ouch, my ancient dl380g6 with 2x x5670 idling is around the same
>>
>>100132909
because almost no one has multiple cameras and access points at home. even for people in the last standard deviation interval, a few poe injectors are sufficient.
>>
>>100133153
one can still learn on the job or in spare time. Sadly, networking knowledge of the average /g/uy is nonexistent as demonstrated each and every day.
>>
I dont have any networking equipment at home or an internet connection
I just use my phone.
I work on computer for 9 hours a day at work.
why would I go home and touch a computer. fuck that
>>
>>100133153
>a few poe injectors is cute and valid
>a PoE switch? no use case and you shouldn't do that because i said so
what a weird hill to die on

a small 5port tplink one powering a camera and an ap
I have plans for more cameras but I first I need money and to figure out a solution for recording.
none of the open source options worked well, blue iris won't play well without quicksync on bare metal windows.
Kerberos might be an option if they added support for h265(+) streams
Otherwise I'm open to suggestions for NVRs
(my boss works with Dahua DVRs, but I'm curious about hikvision's software, and need it to support 3 4k streams + 2-3 1080p ones)
>>
I have a PoE switch,.poe enabled IP phones, and a PBX, the issue is I don't want to run cables to the other rooms, as that would be a huge hassle, if I purchase one of those Ethernet over Power devices I would feel like I wastes money on the PoE switch.
>>
>>100133248
zoomer thumbs typed this
>>
I will buy a POE switch when 10G becomes the standard. No reason to upgrade right now.
